“Another excellent Fairmont”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

This was our first visit to Dubai. We have stayed in many Fairmonts in Canada, USA & Beijing & The Fairmont Palm lived up to expectation. We had been warned that getting on/off 'The Palm' can be difficult but The Fairmont is situated on 'the trunk' & it is easily accessed & taxis are very readily available & inexpensive. The hotel is right on the beach with separate swimming pools for adults. Breakfast was included with as much choice as you could wish for. Nespresso machine in room. Without exception, staff were helpful & pleasant (wake-up calls, taxis booked, information, beach staff etc). They nicely upgraded us to a sea view room as we required two beds for myself & adult daughter. Dubai can be a little confusing as to which area to stay - The Fairmont Palm suited us perfectly

We stayed at the Fairmont in September and it’s a beautiful hotel however if you have stayed in other 5 star hotels in Dubai I think you will be disappointed.
It lacks sophistication if you compare it to the Grosvenor House there is no comparison. The rooms are superb as are the pool and beach. The irritating things are £20 a day charge for internet, selling you fancy bottled water rather than the local water and the lack of service..

The buffet food is good but the staff are too eager to clear the table, they do not listen and pre-empt the conversation. We stayed half board but you still signed for your food which is an obvious tip opportunity and I was often asked to sign for dinner when I had a mouthful of food
The other restaurants i.e. Seafood and Frevo are just ok. Frevo have a “eat as much meat as you like” policy, not for everyone!
.
The rooms were serviced daily but there was always something missing like coffee, towels etc.
I feel they opened the Hotel prematurely as the staff are not trained properly.

Would not return

Two weeks ago myself and three friends went to the Fairmont for their new brunch concept 'Break-slow'. Running from 10:30am till 3pm, there is plenty of time to enjoy the fantastic food and drinks on offer. It is an a la carte brunch with a bbq outside. The quality of the food was excellent and cocktails are included in the drinks deal. Only small downfall was the consistency of the cocktails. Brilliant brunch and one we are sure to come back to.

In our opinion if you want real 5* stay at Mina a Salam , al Qasr or the one and only . This hotel simply does not compare to these . The breakfast was average , they stop serving at 10.30 which is unusual as most hotels continue until 11 . The rooms were good and the location is good but overall this is not a 5* experience by Dubai standards .

After having heard from friends that the Fairmont the Palm is offering a great afternoon tea, we had to try it out ourselves. I have to say that for sitting outside, the weather is still not cool enough, however, the hotel tries the best with fans to make it comfortable for guests. We chose to sit inside the Mashrabiya lounge after a while, which was a good choice, the sofas are comfortable and you can still enjoy the nice views. The afternoon tea started with fresh juices and a perfumed fruit cream mix, which was delicious. Following that we received tea/coffee (unlimited refill) and very nice pastries and sandwiches. Even though we were full after this we were not finished yet. The waitress brought us scones and to finish chocolates. The service was attentive and I couldn't have wished for a better way to spend my afternoon.

The only shortcoming is the taxi service at the resort.

My wife and I spent 5 nights here for an extended weekend break. We had never been to Dubai before and were looking for a luxury beachside stay. We booked a one bedroom suite on a Fairmont 30% off deal on the gold floor with sea view. The room was huge - large sitting/dining room, large bedroom and bathroom with kitchenette (with separate door for staff if needed) and a separate guest toilet. Room was excellent as was the housekeeping. Only downside of the room which surprised me was there was only one bathroom sink in the otherwise perfect room. Sea views are terrific and rather calming.
Gold lounge was good too - nice snacks, breakfast and drinks - excellent service from the team there although some times it felt they were trying too hard to be interested in our plans. It is worth booking the Gold rooms for the extra cost it can save you a lot on breakfast and the otherwise expensive drinks (aed55 for a glass of wine in the bar) in the evening.
Getting to/from the hotel is easy, local taxis are cheap with a run to the main city costing around aed60 (about £10) each way. Taxis are on meters so no rip offs allowed! Don't be put off by what seems to be an otherwise remote location. Taxis to/from the airport cost only around aed100 each way so the lovely BMW7 transfer laid on by the hotel for aed340 is expensive in comparison - that said it was an excellent pick up when we arrived past midnight.

We used the spa twice and the only disappointment was that on both days we were told by a letter in our room that the steam/heat rooms were closed for mechanical reasons - when I then discovered from one of the spa members there was a photo shoot taking place I did feel I had been deliberately mislead. It was a shame not be able to take advantage of the full spa - the alternative to go to the gym steam rooms was not the same not least because its a trek from spa to gym in your dressing gown!

Another disappointment was the newly opened Ba chinese restaurant… we had a foul meal there - wonderful setting, nice staff, great duck pancake but awful main courses - pork belly dish and some scallop dish - both were tasteless and stodgy…. I returned the pork and to be fair it was deducted from the bill with something of an apology.

An issue of charging me twice for one Desert Safari was overlooked at checkout but when I raised it that evening it was swiftly corrected.

So in summary - great hotel, still feels very new, excellent staff all round… feels like some teething problems still though after being open for 10 months. Staff training is good but you can tell they don't really know how to handle problems other than apologise/refund.

Room Tip: Go for Gold room with sea view - failing that go to a high room to improve the view and avoid any co...

Our family stayed at this relatively new hotel for a week in October his year. Sensational service from George and Paul on the 9th Floor all under the professional stewardship of Sachin. Location is ideal. Pools great and beach and view worth every penny. We will be back. Quality customer experience and extra small touches were appreciated and welcomed on this special holiday. As a customer with extra health needs, I was treated with great respect and consideration from all staff. A special thank you to Anne Despogado down at the pool for her wonderful service and smile and to all the brilliant lifeguards. Keep up the good work.
