“Relaxing Oasis”
Reviewed 6 March 2012

We were lucky to spend 5 glorious days and nights at the resort in the 1st week of March 2012. The resort is beautiful and so different from the touristy resorts in Jumeirah. Authentic arabian architecture, beautiful outdoor areas, lovely pool area and amazing decor. We were supplied with a fruit basket on arrival, fresh dates and chocolates every day in our room, and fresh fruit while lazing around the pool, and a bag with several gifts on departure, all complimentary!! The restaurants were all very good and the service fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and from everyone working at the resort the service was efficient, friendly and probably the best service we have ever experienced having travelled extensively throughout Europe and Asia. The resort is peaceful and very relaxing, even though it was busy on the Friday (which we believe is the busiest day), it never felt crowded. We would like to thank all the staff at the resort for making our time at the resort special and an experience we will never forget. We recommend the Bab Al Shams to anyone who is looking for an unforgettable, relaxing holiday away from the hustle & bustle of Dubai.

I stayed here with my family and friends. We booked two standard rooms and the royal suite. I expected a little more attention to detail with the service. The receptionist was rude, the second receptionist couldn't speak english. We had a TERRIBLE experience at the Al Hadeerah buffet which I recommend to never go back - this is over priced, over the top tourist waste of time. As UAE residents I was not impressed. The hotel itself is lovely, the rooms, the atmosphere and the pool. Reception and the F&B should be addressed, I was so upset after the buffet that I booked months ahead for my family and a special birthday occasion that I wrote an official complaint and have recently spoke to the manager. I love Bab Al Shams but just be prepared for not 5 star service as it was before.

Once owned by the Jumeirah Group and my you notice the difference. On arrival a luke warm reception greeted us and although we were a party and asked weeks in advance if we could be generally in the same locale we found ourselves spread across the hotel. The Arabic Restaurant Al Hadherah is well worth a visit however the level of the music makes conversation impossible. The roof top bar Al Saran has the most shocking service i have ever encountered. There were around 5 customers in the bar area and after being seated by the waiter we then waited over 20 minutes to be served. I gave up and ordered drinks directly from the bar. The breakfast offering is poor and mostly cold even when it is meant to be hot.Staff in general are vacant and do little in service offerings. Once a great hotel. Such a shame.

I've been to Bab Al Shams a few times now and it never dissapoints!
The charms of old Arabia greet you right at the door - you are surrounded by old arabic style cushions, coffee & dates as you wait to check into your room.

We chose to wait by the pool and didnt leave for a few hours! - the infinity pool that leads out into the desert is truly inviting and it doesnt get any better than cocktails and a very scrumptious lunch by the water.

For a little romance under the stars escape to the italian restaurant on the rooftop, the food is fresh and colorful and also comes at a great price!

Last but certainly not least the rooms are opulent, walls adorned with paintings and draperies that take you back to a middle eastern era unknown. To say the bed is large would be an understatement - beautiful white sheets and a very comfortable matress ensure a great nights rest.

Lets not forget the beautiful bathrooms - I for one love the showers and how they appear to be carved out of the stone - a truly elegant touch.

All in all our experience at Bab Al Shams was truly relaxing and very romantic and we cant wait to return there very soon - and just forty five minutes away from mall of the emirates, its the perfect weekend getaway.

Room Tip: ask for the deluxe rooms upstairs with a balcony, some even come with a little outdoor porch.

we stayed there for 4 nights - the location is great, about 1 hour by taxi from dubai downtwon - charming place - hotel however looks a bit "tired" and would need some urgent updating (rooms, restaurants, gym, spa) - most disappointing where the restaurants and the food - main restaurant is poor, more like a *** all-inclusive-place - the Indian restaurant is OK but any restaurant downtown might be better - do not go to bab al shams for the food !!! the location and the charm do not justify the high prices

Beautiful rooms - all with an authentic Arabian feel. Great for a romantic getaway - even though it is a resort you don't feel over-whelmed with other people or screaming children. Great selection of dining options and excellent standard of food. Beautiful pool area over-looking the desert. Sundowners on the rooftop lounge is a must in the winter months. This was my second visit - the first time I went was when the hotel was managed by Jumeirah and I have to say that there are a few differences in terms of management etc. My first stay was outstanding, and although the second time did have some flaws I would still recommend the resort to people wanting to get out of the city for a quiet weekend.

We spent three nights here in October with our 8 month old son. It was really hot, but the staff brought cold flannels, ice lollys and fruit skewers to you by the pool, and the pools were fantastic - three of them (one for children) all with shaded areas, varying depths and water features. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel is beautiful, especially at night when the corridors and courtyards are lit by lanterns. The buffet breakfast is good, and the food at the other restaurants is good too (we didn't try the arabian village restaurant in the desert because of our son). There are camels rides (extra cost) and a falcon show at dusk. If you are looking for somewhere to spend a few relaxing days, this is the place!

Room Tip: ask for a room with a terrace/balcony overlooking the gardens and with a sofa area, not all of the t...
