Just back from a great week in Dubai. This is a lengthy review, however i struggled to find info pre our trip so hope this helps someone. The Carlton Downtown hotel is centrally located with taxis and metro literally on your doorstep. Taxis are so cheap and plentiful therefore we didn't use the metro. There are also free shuttle buses to various malls - ask the concierge for details. All hotel staff we encountered were very polite and friendly and could not do enough for you - in particular at the pool and breakfast. Our room (1 bed suite on 33rd floor) was huge with fantastic views of downtown. We had a large fridge which we didn't expect (immaculately clean) and air con was very effective. The suite was clean in general but tired in places (stains on carpets and walls / some lights not working). The shower was in the bath tub and would have been better if a walk in shower - perfectly functional though. Housekeeping was a bit inconsistent with toilet rolls and hand towels not being replaced some days. 2 bottles of water and tea / coffee supplies were re stocked daily. A safe was provided in the room free of charge. Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety and high quality of food on offer. For those like myself who enjoy a 'full English' fear not... there was bacon (beef) and sausages (turkey), baked beans, hash browns and eggs any way your want them! Staff were very friendly and helpful and knew us by name. Tip - book breakfast with the hotel directly for 59 dirhams daily per person. The rooftop pool was relatively small but well managed by very friendly and helpful staff and this area also had great views. Plenty of sunbeds were available. There was a bar on this level also serving food which we used once and was decent. We also used the bar on mezzanine level and whilst service and drinks / food were good, it lacked atmosphere. One thing i would respectfully point out to management is that you are not marketing the various hotels bars & restaurant's offerings. For example we would have taken dinner in the hotel but no information was to hand at breakfast, in room, website or reception. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Carlton Downtown which was excellent value for money, well located and friendly and would definitely return.
