Where oh where do we start! We have just returned from our third trip to this lovely resort. We have stayed in both the JA hotel and Palm Tree Court. On our recent visit we stayed in a Royal Jasmine Suite overlooking the sea and very close to the action. Perfect for the four of us, nice and quiet and convenient when you need to pop back to the room during the day for whatever reason. The rooms are spotless, the twice daily attendance by staff cannot be faulted. As we visited leading up to Christmas, everywhere looks so festive and we particularly enjoyed meeting Father Christmas and his Rudolph camel at the turning on of the Christmas lights reception!
As ever the food is fantastic. We dined in all the restaurants and the food is such top quality and the choice is amazing. It never failed to impress me how at 9 p.m. the restaurants were full of sumptuous food with everyone having a lovely time and then by 6.30 a.m. (apparently!) it’s all set up for breakfast.
Again, the White Orchid takes top marks for delicious food and the evening ambience is just gorgeous. A special thank you to Jamie and Oka who both looked after us so well during our stay both in the evenings and then again at breakfast. Also to the lovely Christian who has a permanent infectious smile on his face and is so professional and nothing is too much trouble. I did ask whether he actually left the White Orchid, he always seemed to be there greeting and smiling! I will never be able to replicate the duck curry, but I am going to try over the forthcoming festivities.
Again Shooters tenderloin steaks are amazing. We really like Shooters as my husband is a keen shooter, so Shooters makes for a great family evening. Apologies to the people on the table next to ours last Sunday, my daughter used one of the tooth flossing sticks and it flung one of her teeth across the restaurant!!! For those lovely diners who appeared concerned, the tooth fairy visited us here in England on our return; she said she’d prefer English pounds to Dirhams!!
The pools are beautiful. We still prefer the large pool to the front of the JA hotel with the swim up bar. We were able to use the pool by the Signatures lounge in our package, but I think we’re creatures of habit and went back to our old sun loungers! John the lifeguard even remembered where we liked to sit when we returned, thank you John and we hope you did well in your challenge event.
Do take the time to use the shuttles into Dubai. They run to time and we’ve found them good to get into town and then it’s very cheap to get a taxi back to the resort. A lot of the taxi drivers are rather testosterone charged, so don’t expect the most relaxing journey back.
We visited the Atlantis waterpark for a day trip and used the hotel’s shuttle bus. Be prepared to be scared beyond belief and expect to spend lots of money. A little tip, don’t spend lots of money hiring towels, you cannot take them into the theme park very easily and by the time you get back to your locker in the heat, you’re dry anyway, so they are a waste of money. If you don’t like getting your hair wet or having your mascara smudging, best you avoid, not sure my husband has ever seen me looking quite so soggy. You will come back with webbed feet and smelling of chlorine, but It’s great fun, but some of the rides are really scary, I think that day aged me by 10 years!
We enjoyed our evenings in the White Orchid listening to Chattrisse and Joe. They are new to the resort and we noticed how as the week went on, the area got busier and busier, so that’s testament to their popularity. We loved a song which Therese used to sing in the evenings and told them about it, they then went away and learnt that song and performed for us two days later and it was very, very good. Now that’s keeping the customers happy isn’t it. I had to smile when one of the regulars at the bar decided to turn one song into a karaoke number with Chattrisse, it was very funny and she handled him very well!
A nice little trip out during early evening and prior to dinner is by taxi from the resort to the Dubai Marina 15 minutes away. It’s nice to go whilst it’s still day light and then watch how the view changes as the evening gets dark. Lots of very, very impressive skyscrapers and if you like looking at yachts, then you will be really impressed. There’s also a Waitrose there if you’re feeling homesick or need an English fix!
There’s so much to do at the resort. We used the water sports facilities, Big Mabel is loved by our children, my husband used the gym (madness, I know!) and we all fell out with each other whilst playing crazy golf. I was not cheating, honestly!
The Spa is very indulgent and they look after you so well. I had the full body message which was very relaxing and I highly recommend this. Not however immediately after lunch and a glass of wine, unless you want her to wake you up with her little bell at the end!
So, all in all we had a tremendous holiday. The staff welcomed us back with such genuine enthusiasm and kindness and they really are pleased to see return visitors. The customer service and efficiency is second to none. Whether it’s the weather or the management, but something keeps everyone smiling and the result is, it makes everyone around the resort happy and relaxed.
I have sat here and thought if there’s anything I would change about the resort and I can honestly say no. I’m not a big fan of peacocks, but they do make the place look majestic and I believe keep the reptiles at bay. If they leave their “calling card” on the floor, staff are very quick to clean it up! There was a big black crow in the palm trees which followed me around the resort during the week – next year I am bringing a catapult to take you out Mr Crow, you have been warned!
Thank you everyone at the resort for making our holiday one to remember, we came home feeling refreshed and invigorated (and fat!) and ready to handle the mother-in-law over the forthcoming festivities! We cannot recommend this hotel enough, you can trawl the internet reading up about various hotels, but I think you’ll be hard pushed to find anywhere that meets everyone’s needs and caters for everyone in such style. It’s definitely our favourite place to go when we need a break.
See you next year everyone and thank you all again, you were brilliant.
