Booked for 4 days without knowing much about the area and were pleasantly surprised with the extremely high standard of this hotel. Nothing was too hard for the staff who went out of their way to help. Pool and gym were great up on the roof where Khalifa and Dubai from up there. Our room at the front on the fourth floor, was large with a view to the Burj. Only problem was the constant hum of the twelve lane freeway that runs in front of the hotel, however, that is just a constant noise which blends into the background after a while. If you wanted a quiet room then the back of the hotel is very quiet and secluded. We opted for the view and were not disappointed.
Breakfast was very good with variations each day. Staff were very attentive and provided exceptional personal service... just had to ask. The Hotel is within five minutes walk to the Metro which is inexpensive and is one one stop (AED 2.50 for one sector)to Dubai Mall(best of all the shopping Malls) and the Burj Khalifa. There is usually a 3 day wait list for a trip to the top of the Burj so book on line well before you leave to ensure you get to visit the top. The cost is AED 100 but if you miss out you can pay AED 400 for instant access. We were going to spend the AED 400 as we missed out on the normal visit but were plagued by dust in the air and extremely poor visibility (1.5 km) so it is a bit of a gamble as to what is the best time. Thought the cost was a bit extreme for just being at the top without the view so will get there next visit.
The Metro will take you right to Dubai Creek where it is 5 mins walk to the Old Souk. Catch one of the many small ferries up the Creek from the far end for a taste of the hectic water life...cost AED 1.00, best money we spent. See the large sea going dhows and the incredible cargos sitting on the docks waiting to be loaded.
Taxis are cheap but from the airport there is a AED 20 flagfall to start but on the return it is only AED 3.00 day or AED 3.50 night. Usually round AED 60 from and AED 40 to. Watch where you catch the taxi at the Dubai Mall. I cost us AED 10 just to get out of the underground car park to where we were dropped off the previous day. Water show starts every half hour from 6 pm to 11 pm but only last for about 5 mins. Disappointing if you have seen the fantastic show at the Bellagio in Las Vegas
