We just loved our stay in this charming hotel - a little oasis in a big, modern city. I had high expectations from the moment I made the booking and explained to Mr Yamin that our flight for Bangkok will be leaving at 3 in the morning and that we would like to leave our luggage there for the day, and the answer was: " You can leave your luggage at our luggage room for the early arrival and early departure on the 8th of November. We have an air conditioned lounge where you can rest. Plus, the hotel has a separate bathroom for you to shower. Towels and soap are provided by us." The hotel was as lovely as the pictures, the service as great as anticipated. My new favourite breakfast is the Arabic breakfast served at XVA! I shall stay nowhere else in Dubai!

Dear Daleen345,

Wow, what a nice review you wrote us and you specifically mention our extra service which many hotels do not have or rather not giving as they expect you to stay one extra night (extra income).

With us, even when you checked out, you are still a guest. You can stay and relax in our lounge with free wifi until you need to leave to the airport. Now that our cafe is open until 10 pm, you can enjoy dinner too.

We would love to welcome you again soon!

Best regards,

Iwan Yamin

Had 3 nights in XVA Art Hotel in October. We loved everything about this small hotel. Our room was lovely, breakfast was wonderful and the staff were great. Were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants something in the old town or more intimate than the many large hotels in Dubai.

Dear Beemills,

Thank you so much for your review.

We are probably the smallest boutique hotel in Dubai and we are so proud of it. It is an experience that we offer to actually stay in a heritage structure of a century old villas.

Consider our hotel a home while you are passing Dubai again next time.

Sincerely yours,

We stayed at the XVA in October for one night. It was a lovely experience. From the driver who met our plane, arriving at 11pm, to the peaceful room, and delicious breakfast - it was a really smooth and gracious stay. The breakfast was a great meal and is included, and the lunch - an eggplant burger and the most amazing mint lemonade was marvelous. The location is convenient for walking down to the creek and getting a water taxi to the souks, and it's just around the corner from the Dubai Museum and the creek walk to the Heritage village.
Oh, and the air conditioning worked perfectly.

This hotel will give you an incredibly unique experience in the old quarter of Dubai. Amazing attention to detail, incredible artworks throughout the hotel and an authentic menu, the service is impeccable. The rooms are great with a very comfortable bed and fantastic air-conditioning. This hotel is for anyone wanting a genuine experience of the heart of Dubai. Make sure you book in for a tour at the Sheik Mohammed Centre for Culture Understanding just around the corner to top off the experience.

Dear Elizabeth D,

The way you described our hotel made you officially a fan of XVA Art Hotel. You are right; the concept of combining arts and heritage has been successful.

Next time around, you should try the local food tour, to complement your visit in Dubai. You'll love it.

Happy travelling and see you next time.

I've been to Dubai on numerous occasions and always find it soul-less and totally commercial. All the hotels are faceless and just part of big global brands. It's tough to try and get under the skin of a city in this fashion.
XVA is just the opposite. Located out of the crazy busy part of Dubai near the Creek in a pedestrian zone. It's quite, sticks to an authentic Arabic feel and layout and is as friendly as can be. If you're ok to stay a little way away from the main centre (although transport options are close by) you will be rewarded with more authentic and relaxed stay.

Dear GazzaBryant,

We are grateful that you named us as an oasis in the midst of soulless modern Dubai.

You pinpointed nicely about our location. The hotel is located in a true centre of Dubai, where it all began. Today's centre of Dubai seems to be Dubai Mall area, they call it downtown. Both is about 15 minutes taxi drive from each other.

Should you ever pass by Dubai, find its soul again in our hotel, you will love how we expand the gallery exhibitions and extra cultural activities.

Have a great christmas!

If this was our fisrt visit to Dubai I would spend a few days in one of the fancy hotels on the sea front....but this was our second visit and we wanted something different...we very much enjoyed our stay here..lovely room...great breakfast...we love the calling from the mosque in the morning. eating out in the evening....Odip (?) 7 minute walk in direction of the subway..good fun local with plenty of action...or go a little further to Rays..or just on the main street on your right is a new Indian which we went to our first night when we arrived about 11.00pm. Around 6.00pm we walked over to the creek and chartered a speed boat for an hour,...was not expensive and great way to see the sunset and go up and down the creek. For Friday lunch Iwan suggested the Dubai Creek golf club, it was fabulous,,,,not the cheapest but everything was wonderful...highly recommended.
We had an enjoyable visit and would certainly recommend it...good WiFi

Good morning Begley85,

I appreciate very much your review about our hotel and to learn that we did not disappoint you on your second visit to Dubai.

Your experience of Dubai culinary is almost complete. You have tasted Indian food, Iranian food and fancy French food at Park Hyatt. Next time around, I have to create a nice array of new findings for you, so you won't get bored in our hotel.

By the way, our cafe is now open until 10 pm. We have tried and tested some new menus and we got plenty of compliments. Another dimension of vegetarian cuisine.

Have a great day and hopefully we see each other again soon.

My Wife and I had been travelling around Europe for a month and we were looking forward to our two night stay at XVA hotel. It was a small hotel and that appealed to us. Iwan the hotel manager initiated an email exchange prior to our visit. He said he looked forward to welcoming us to his establishment; and he generally created an expectation of a hotel stay that would be unique and personal. Consequently we thought it would be a fitting end to a wonderful holiday. We arrived at the hotel in the early hours of the morning. We had booked the deluxe double room and it was smaller than we had expected. The toilet cistern ran all night and there wasn’t any shower gel in the dispenser, the lights outside our room remained on all night. Chanting did wake up us early, however we liked the reminder of another city experience. Breakfast was very enjoyable. The ‘welcome’ from Iwan never eventuated. We met him briefly when we were paying our account; in fact no one welcomed us to this very personal ten-room establishment. After breakfast we went to the office to ask for ideas about exploring the city of Dubai, no one was there. Wandered around the hotel to find some one, without success. We arrived back at the hotel around 9.00pm, after a long day of exploring the city (it is a little far out). I was looking forward to a treasured bath experience, no plug. Spoke to the gentleman in the office, however, unfortunately we could not cross the language barrier but he did understand our request to turn the lights off outside our room. Interestingly he had checked us in in the early hours of the morning and he couldn’t remember our room number or our names. We started the following day asking about our check out (we were flying home at 10.00pm) and wanted to leave our cases and have a shower before we went to the airport. This seemed to create some issue and a call was made to Iwan. It was decided we could leave our cases and use the ‘refresh’ room. There was no offer to assist us to get our cases down stairs. We arrived back to the hotel late in the afternoon after an interesting day exploring the city. The ‘refresh’ room proved to be a very small un-air-conditioned bathroom. We dragged our cases to the courtyard area just outside the bathroom. Of course by the time we had had a shower and re-packed a few final items we were just as hot and sweaty as we were prior to our shower. We decided to go to the airport early as by that stage we were hot, bothered and in dire need of air conditioning. There was some discussion around a pre-booking of a taxi or just risking it on the streets. I was envisioning us standing on the curb on the wrong side of the road for hours watching the taxis fly past. Off we went, no personal goodbye or acknowledgement as we dragged our cases out of the hotel. Finally a staff member who seemed to feel quite sorry for us, grabbed one of the cases directed us to the correct roadside and we hailed a taxi. In one of his emails Iwan described the location of the hotel as the soul of Dubai, sadly the hotel has no soul. Beautiful artwork but no-one to share the history and meaning of the work. It proved to be quite an isolated experience at the XVA hotel. We stayed in ten accommodation establishments during our time travelling through Germany, Krakow and Prague. And for us the accommodation becomes an integral part of the holiday experience. We stayed in 9 wonderful places, unfortunately XVA has lost its way and does not value the personal experience that become the heart of treasured memories for the visitors to their city. It is easy to create a personal, welcoming experience in an email but the challenge for the manager of this hotel is to translate that in to a ‘real moment’ experience for guests of the hotel.

Dear Peter H,

I appreciate very much your time and effort to share your experience on the this medium and I feel sorry that we failed to meet your expectations. It is my whole responsibility to respond to your points.

It is true that I approached every one of the guest before their arrival to help with the program and any queries they might have. This is a way to make them feel familiar. I meet and greet most of the guests except when I am off duty or on vacation.

Before people choose our hotel, most of them have realised that the rooms would not be large. It is a converted villa of 120 years old, a part of Dubai Heritage site of Al Fahidi. What we offered instead is the experience, the arts and design. The atmosphere that most hotels in Dubai do not offer, we do offer it here.

We are sorry that we could not extend your request of late check out to 19:00 as we are a small hotel and we are expecting other guests to arrive and stay in the room as well. From my own experience in the hotel business, rarely any hotels will extend the check out to the evening. Most likely they will give you late check out to 13:00 which I did give you.

Many guests enjoy the extra service of the private shower before their flight or when they arrive very early and no rooms yet available. This way they can avoid paying extra night. It is however true that there is no air conditioned in that shower but I never heard an air conditioned bathroom before (not in the gym, not in a five star hotel). None of of bathrooms in our room is air-conditioned either. After the shower, you can go straight to the air conditioned lounge and rest there. Unless you prefer to stay in our courtyard, you would not get sweaty.

When you found our reception empty, I was hoping that you approached one of our waiters or cooks. They can help you as well. We are well equipped with the local guide books in English if the language barrier exist and they can always call me during my off duty to be your concierge from a distance.

Again we are sorry for your unfortunate experience at our hotel, I will surely scrutinise these matters and learn how we can improve our service. XVA Art Hotel is still a small boutique hotel with certain limitations in facilities and services. We try to go the extra mile whenever possible.

Have a fabulous weekend.
