XVA Art Hotel is a boutique hotel in historic Old Dubai, aka Bur Dubai. It is an art gallery with an in-house artist as well as a hotel. The hotel's architecture follows the traditional Emirati style with an open courtyard and surrounding rooms. Beautiful rooftop views are complemented by several well-placed alcoves with comfortable couches and seating.

ROOMS & AMENITIES: The rooms are rather small but have wonderful character. My room on the 2nd floor had several doors that opened, allowing for fresh air to circulate and a feeling of openness. Being on the 2nd floor meant I still had some privacy with all these doors open.

The breakfast that comes with the room is fantastic - local and tasty! They also have the best mint/lemonade drink in Dubai!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 2nd floor for more privacy as all rooms open toward courtyard. Also, 2nd floor rooms have easy access to lovely views of the area (see photos).

HOSPITALITY: The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, yet professional. Particular kudos goes to the phenomenal manager, Iwan; Bong, the server and Rebecca who greeted me on my arrival. Their warmth and insights really enriched my stay and made my 1st experiences to Dubai warm ones.

LOCATION: XVA is centrally located with easy access to the Gold, Textile and Spice souks and Jumeirah Creek.
• It’s only a 5-minute walk from the Dubai National Museum - which gives you an idea of the city-state's history.
• From there, another 5-minute walks through the Textile Souk to Jumeirah Creek.
• From here you can take an abra (water taxi) to Deira where the Spice and Gold Souks are. You can enjoy the beautiful water views of the city as you cross the Creek.
• 10-15-minute walk to metro station where you can take a metro to the Dubai Mall and Burg Khalifa

Additional perks:
• Wonderful restaurant for lunch in same courtyard setting
• XVA has lovely art pieces throughout the courtyard and even on the tables (see photos). During my stay, a group of schoolchildren had a field trip to XVA to see the art.

Downsides:
• A bit of a trek to get to the beaches. Most direct route is to take a taxi, which can still take 30-45min depending on which beach you go to and traffic.
• Rooms are small so if you have a lot of luggage - be prepared.

Tips:
• For a good view of the "dancing fountains" at the Burg Khalifa at night, go to the Kinokuniya bookstore in the Dubai Mall. You can sip a cappuccino or tea while watching the show - for free.
• If you're looking for gold jewelry, the nearby jewelry stores like Joyalukkas have gold jewelry with comparable prices to the gold souk...and since they are brand names, more reliable. I went to the gold souk for the experience but bought my jewelry at one of the stores near XVA.
• No matter where you stay in Dubai, be sure to book an overnight desert safari. Sleep under the stars, see some wildlife and to get a sense of what Dubai used to be. I booked with Platinum Heritage (which I can’t recommend – overpriced for what they offered). There are quite a few companies on Trip Advisor, e.g. Arabian Adventures, Dubai Desert Safaris, etc.

For me, unless you REALLY want to stay in the more generic large hotels or you want to be by the beach, XVA is the place to stay in Dubai.

We are residents in Dubai and decided to have our wedding here and visited XVA to see how it would fair as a venue. From the moment we met Iwan and his time we knew we were in very good hands.
The hotel itself is in a fabulous location and the team do everything they can to guide you within the area and give fabulous suggestions for making the most of your time.
The rooms themselves are stunning and a huge amount attention has been given to ensure that they truly capture the essence of the area.
The restaurant is excellent with some super local dishes and a great menu choice.
However for us the major strength of this hotel is the people who work there and Iwan in particular. They simply cannot do enough to help you whilst also giving you space to enjoy the surroundings.
I would also highly recommend the XVA as a venue for hosting events such as the wedding we recently held there.....we were looked after extremely well and the attention to detail was flawless.

Room Tip: The superior doubles are more spacious

Dear Mandy B,

We really appreciate your time to write this review. My team has read it as well and I could see the satisfaction on their face. Job Well Done!

I personally consider your wedding the highlight of my career in XVA. All those months of preparation, remembering how much energy that both of you had when visiting us, awesome. It triggered me to work even harder to make it happen. It was such joy to be able to help two persons to bind in marriage.

Some people considered me as a wedding planner after doing your wedding, but the personally, It takes more to be a professional one.

Many happy years to both of you and see you again at our cafe.

Warmest regards,

Iwan Yamin

The hotel is a small beautifully restored property in the sun-baked historic neighbourhood of Al Fahid. The immediate area of the hotel is a zone that is closed to traffic. Taxis do not know how to find this hotel, so have a map on hand and know where you want the taxi to drop you so you can walk in to the hotel. Have the hotel's phone # with you. All this being said, the journey is worth the effort ! The hotel also serves as an art gallery and its owner has filled the rooms and courtyard and additional gallery area with an eclectic rotating collection of works. The staff is all lovely. Breakfast and a café serves in the inner courtyard. In terms of hospitality, I think a special note is to be given to one of the managers, Iwan, who is knowledgeable in culture & art, helpful, enthusiastic, and genuine in his efforts to assist. A very personable hotel.

Room Tip: I think the back courtyard is best. So peaceful.

Hallo OpinionDP,

Thank you for such a lovely note about our hotel. It is informative and personal at the same time.

We got along pretty well during your two visits as we share the same passions (arts & other fine things in life) and the same jokes as well. Giving you advices had been too easy job for me.

If you ever travel to this part of the world, you are always welcome to stay with us again.

Enjoy life to the max!

The fact that the manager knew our name on arrival and had the time to talk to us about what we wanted to do and make recommendations about where to go demonstrates the attention to detail he went to. The room, no 1 was as described, clean and perfectly presented, breakfasts where traditional, varied, well cooked where apropriate and completely sufficient. The staff where all smart and attentive.
There are thousands of moden, anonamous rooms in downtown Dubia vying for our money. Stay there if that's what you want or stay here in the old Dubia, off the beaten track away from the high rises. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Room No. 1 is the one to choose if its available. Sleep quality only average due to traditional ca...

Good morning Bobwyatt,

It has been a pleasure to read your review about us. Thank you very much for your time to write your opinion.

We do care about our guest; approaching them prior to the arrival to help with the program and on the spot, we also take our time to listen to the guests' wishes.

Yes, room 1 is special with the view and windows but forget not that all our rooms are uniquely designed, all special yet deepening on your taste.

Comfortable Space. Charming Personality. Attentive Staff.

I'm not a high maintenance person by any stretch of the imagination, but certain things make for an outstanding experience. From the reservations process, to possibly checking in early, to booking a desert safari tour, and even offering a shower room after my check-out and before my late-night flight made my stay at XVA exceptional.

I can attest to what other reviewers wrote here: it is a beautiful hotel, with an art gallery, in the historic district of Dubai. The property really is gorgeous! And when you add to that the level of service from the staff - you really cannot go wrong.

Thank you again, Iwan! Hope to be able to host you someday here in Cebu, Philippines!

Prior reviews set a high expectation for the hotel and Staff
It meets all of them.
First the location is quite in a clean pedestrian only area. This requires a shot walk to the hotel.
We arrived very late and the cab driver called and the night manager came to the cab to help with our bags
Cab ride at midnight from airport was 10 min and $15 with a nice tip.
Room is very nice with 12 ft ceilings and a lot of art. Windows are high in wall on the exterior and court yard sides. This is not a room with a view but very comfortable
Iwan is the helpful manager everyone raves about. He came by to welcome us at breakfast and took care of our desert tour. I emailed him prior to arrival and he quickly responded with great help.

The tour he suggested was magical. heritage Tours. Arriving in the desert camp after dark by camel is special as is the dinner
Oh don't miss the Lemonaid with mint. A mohito with out the rum!!!!
We are very happy and had a special time the big hotels can't offer.

Thanks to Iwan and his staff
