Just returned from a 5 night break to escape UK weather. Have visited Dubai as a cruise stop, but effectively this was our first Dubai city-break stay. Just wanted to chill by the pool and relax. Raffles selected based on Trip Advisor reviews and a great value British Airways package.
Chose to be collected from the airport by one of the hotel's fleet - a Maserati - great fun but as only a 10 minute trip, probably a touch extravagant (and almost 10 times the cost of a taxi). We arrived at the hotel at 9.30am after an overnight flight. Delighted our room was available at that early hour - and check-in took place seamlessly in our room. Outstanding first impressions of hotel, suite and service.
We chose a Club room - very good size (and probably not worth the extra for a suite) - which included buffet breakfast (one of the best we have experienced) plus Club benefits of afternoon tea and evening cocktails and canapés which were all included and avoided the need to pay steep'ish hotel restaurant prices. That said, whilst we avoided the hotel restaurants we did dine en-suite once - the quality and service were good and the price (relatively) reasonable.
High spec room features - we wanted for nothing. Spacious and comfortable. Make-up and turn-down services were excellent.
Used the Spa and pool area every day. Never busy and well maintained. Here's the issue - the pool is adjacent to a freeway and noisy. Don't come here for peace and quiet - we expect there are better pools in other hotels located closer to/on the beach.
In summary - great service; beautiful hotel interior/facilities; excellent room; super facilities and we enjoyed the Club benefits.
However, the location won't suit everyone. 10 mins by taxi to airport and/or downtown/Dubai Mall area means it's convenient, but quite some distance from the beach resorts and relatively isolated (apart from the WAFI shopping mall which can be accessed from the lobby). The adjoining road network can be busy - so there is some noise around the pool area. Our impression is the hotel caters more for business/conference guests rather than holidaymakers.
Business or pleasure is the important choice to make. Would we stay again? Definitely, but if it is for another winter sunshine break we'll probably try one of the Jumeirah beach hotels next time.
