Well I just returned from two weeks in the Middle East on Holiday. We spent one week at the InterContinental. I must say this is one great hotel. It is the closest to perfection as I have ever come in a hotel.
First we arrived at 5 am on a early morning KLM flight from Amsterdam, even though checkin was at 2pm, the hotel had no issue in checking us in right away. And being a Plat Ambassador Member, we received a suite upgrade on the Marina. Great view of the Marina and the desert beyond. And I must say the room was bigger than my Apartment in the Netherlands.
On the morning of our arrival, we slept a bit and went to the club lounge for breakfast to discover we had missed the breakfast. But the staff, promptly brought us menus and had breakfast ordered and delivered to our table. Was so nice since we were still on the tired side.
After breakfast we headed to the lobby to speak with the Concierge, where Charles the head concierge proceeded to help us, and made us feel special and most desired. He arranged several tours in the desert as well as a Dow dinner cruise on the creek. And every time we would walk through the lobby on our way out, he would stop and make sure everything was okay with our stay. And if there was ever and issue Charles solution was to put us in the back of a Lexus LS and he worked everything out, as we were driven there. Even arranged for us to attend High Tea the Borj Al Arab.
The staff in the club lounge was so professional always calling us by name, and remembering our drink preferences and such.
A few days into our stay, the hotel hosted a cocktail party for what it called its special guest and we were invited, where we met the senior staff and other people and chatted. I must say this is one hotel for the books.
The only down side we had was there was no bar where we could site outside and have cool drinks in the evening, all the bars had loud music and such.
The room was very modern and confortable. And a felt the glass bathrooms were very special. And the cleaning staff kept our room clean and arranged our entire stay.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Most people think it is out of the way. But actually it is very easy to get around, and you are out of the tourist areas with all the tour buses and strange people.
This hotel stands as my reference hotel, the one I use to compare all the others. One great stay, and I will return on my next trip to Dubai.
