We booked this B&B at the last minute as our B&B in Valaparaiso did not meet our expectations. La Casa del Almirante certainly did. It is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and comfortable. We stayed in Pacifico on the top floor and had more than enough room, even a kitchenette. We loved to sit on the couches in the little seating area while we answered emails and gazed at the beautiful view. The sunsets were awesome. Breakfasts were good and we communicated with the staff with our minimal Spanish. We stayed for 3 nights and were the only guests for 2 of the nights so it did feel a bit lonely. We were travelling in May so all of Vina Del Mar felt empty and quiet. Restaurants were not full. The B&B is hard to find. Our taxi driver had a hard time locating it, but he turned off his meter to not overcharge us. It is not close to any restaurants, bakeries or stores so we had large lunches in town and brought back wine and snacks to eat in the room at night. Jose was very helpful in giving us directions on getting back to Santiago by bus. We enjoyed staying here but would make sure we didn't come in the off-season next time.

We usually stay in Valparaiso but this time we chose Viña, the service was excellent, the rooms are big and shiny, the mattress was topnotch. The place is Family friendly and beautifully decorated. Breakfast is quite good and they are flexible if you have food allergies. It is located in a quiet and safe neighborhood.

Room Tip: if you want privacy ask for the room outside the house.

I stayed at this hotel for a few nights in April with my son and his fiancée. We occupied the attic apartment (La Pajarera), which has two bedrooms, a kitchenette and a few living areas to sit down, relax and enjoy the views of the bay and the town below. We found the apartment very comfortable and the service provided by our hostess, Maria Jose, excellent. Nice beds, TV in each bedroom and a nice, chileno style breakfast every morning. A tour was organised for us with a bilingual guide who took us all around Valparaiso and the surrounding hills. In summary, a great place to stay, good family atmosphere. I'd stay there again. Highly recommended.

Stayed at hotel prior to boarding cruise ship in Valparaiso. We spent a full day in Vina. The hotel very eclectic in nature. Could use some nice throw rugs in rooms, as wood floors were a bit cold on the feet. Also need a more comfortable chair in very large bedroom. Bathrooms modern and colorful. Breakfast could be a little more varied but plentiful. Jose the owner/manager was very helpful with taxis and hints on the area. We drove to hotel and even with a GPS it was almost impossible to find. Outside sitting area quite nice. Only problem was a barking neighborhood dog...most of the night. That really isn't the hotel's fault, but it was annoying.

The house is very clean. The bathroom was across the room but was ours to use. You can hear every movement from other rooms, our door rattled so loud that I run downstairs to ask if there was an earthquake. Anyhow, the rooms are spacious and the breakfast decent. Because of it's location, it's really quiet at night and the view is really great.

Now, the downside: 1. The shower's water temperature is very unstable, it turned cold and hot and extreme hot and cold during our shower. 2. There's only 6 seats at the breakfast table. I was there with my mother and my daughter. We were asked to scoot over and only take up 2 seats as later there will be other guest coming down for breakfast. So I had my daughter on my lap or standing during breakfast which was just... unacceptable for a b&b for around 100USD/night. They could have brought in any other chair from their office or something, the table is large enough.

I hate to have taken out 2 stars as the owner seemed nice and showed us great places to visit with maps provided but the whole breakfast thing infuriated me.

Estimada Soyena,

We read the reviews and made last minute reservations during our 2 week stay in Chile. We couldn't have been more pleased. Jose and his wife were lovely hosts and the home was as delightful, clean, colorful and welcoming as the reviews had mentioned. I can't remember our room name, but it was the one that doesn't have an attached bath. However the large bathroom just steps away was no problem. And we felt comfortable leaving toiletries in there during our stay. The breakfast was delicious with apple tarts and very yummy breads, meats and cheeses. And it was a treat finding out who we would dine with both mornings. In the States we hardly speak with others at B & B's, but we found ourselves very curious about the other guests. You feel like you already have something in common because you've both found this wonderful hidden treasure.
My husband and I enjoyed exploring Vina del Mar on foot. We were able to walk to most places from the B&B and felt comfortable using the microbuses with the locals. We returned around midnight both nights and felt safe walking. However, there was something very satisfying about opening up that wonderful big blue door and climbing up the stairs...almost like a fortress. It feels very safe.
We thank our hosts very much for making us feel at home. And thank you, Jose for carrying my suitcase!

My husband and I spent two nights at the lovely Casa del Almirante. The house is a beautifully renovated historic home in the Recreo neighborhood of Vina del Mar. The decor is clean and fun and mingles antique and vintage pieces with fun art and funky wallpaper. The house has wifi throughout, offers complimentary breakfast as well as sweeping views of Vina rooftops and the ocean. I would say that the only (minor) downside is the location. It's a little bit away from the center, but is close to a colectivo stop which will get you where you want to go quickly. Casa del Almirante definitely provides a taste of the historic character of the city. It's a great value and the caretakers are very sweet and helpful.
