Ok let's get the bad bit out of the way quickly - the mattresses and pillows are a bit lumpy so you do have to wriggle around a lot to find a way to sleep. And that's what stops me from giving this a 5*.

However everything else is brilliant! Location is spot on, 24 hour English speaking receptionist is fantastic and can advise about where to eat and what to do etc, rooms are clean and spacious and HEATED at night! Showers and toilets are cleaned regularly and the water runs fast and hot. There is good fast wifi everywhere and the free breakfast is actually pretty yummy! Plus this place has massive lockers to keep your backpacks in after you check out and can book all your bus tickets and things for you. Really loved it here! Stayed 3 nights! Would highly reccomend. It has a lovely open central courtyard where people hang out so great for making new friends!

It is true that once upon a time it was a great colonial building but it needs serious maintenance now. The room we slept had cables all around and a huge piece in the column above the door was missing -which made me feel insecure. Breakfast was terrible, breads were not fresh, butter tasted anything but butter. Only coffee was ok. The common area was spacious and nice. Internet only works in the reception area. That's why it is usually overcrowded. Laundry service was fast but not the best. Overall, it is ok for the price. But it needs serious improvement.

I spend two nights in this hostel and it was really pleasent. The beds in the 8 persons dorms were nothing fancy but good enough to get a good night sleep.
Breakfest was good, got tea coffee juices bananas and bread.
Showers are supposed to be good, but since the main hall isn't heated was to cold of an activity to me.
Concluding, it's cheap, friendly and you meet lots of travelers

Great location and generally friendly staff happy to make onward bus bookings. Accommodation OK. Everything worked, clean enough and shower super-hot. Ideally heating in room should be on 24hrs however overall I was fine with this

Really nice hostel, centrally located near the plaza, cafés, restaurants and ATMs. They do a great mine tour with an ex-miner. Hot showers, big bedrooms, large courtyard, decent breakfast. Wifi is brilliant in the front rooms... Has more of a hotel feel than hostel.

This hostel has definitely seen better days, most of the plug sockets and individual lights for beds have been ripped out the walls so one socket for a dorm of 10. Cold rooms at night and poor bathrooms with frequently cold showers. Breakfast is good. The mine tour was poor as they took us on a tour despite there being no miners as they were on strike, if they're on strike don't do a tour. Ok for a night no more

We were promised good vibes and a recently renovated hostel, and got neither...yes, the central courtyard is very attractive, but it's dead most of the day, so not a sociable feel at all. As for the state of the rooms, the one we had reserved smelled strongly of sewage, so the next day we asked to be moved, which they did, although to a much smaller room. The whole place looks as though they began the much vaunted renovations last week and then came to a grinding halt...everywhere you look there's piles of rubble, side lights ripped out of the walls (or not yet installed), taps loose in the sink, toilets without locks in shared bathrooms, no hooks, shower curtains or anywhere to keep clothes dry whilst you shower. The only vibes you can get from this place is by touching one of the many exposed light switches in the bathrooms. The breakfast might have been free but it was frankly disgusting...lukewarm / burnt tasting coffee, stale bread, pointless sugary air-cereal. It didn't help that customer service varied from vacant to surly much of the time. Those that want the colonial style architecture in their hostal should check out Las 3 Portadas a few blocks over for a much nicer stay.

Room Tip: Check your room doesn't smell of backed-up drains ("aguas residuals") before accepting...
