This little Italian eatery is a real gem.
The only problem is that is has only around 25 covers so phone to book or get there early.
The proprietor serves you and from some tables you get to see the action in the kitchen. Our pasta was freshly cooked.simple and delicious. It was also great value.
There was complete cross section of diners whilst we were there and the ambience was very relaxed.
Just go ahead and book !

The first time we went to Café Monterosso it was shut. The second time all the tables were reserved - on a Wednesday night! - but the welcome we received was so friendly and genuine we immediately made a reservation for the following evening. We are so glad we persevered. Our meal was great - easily the best we've had during our two months in Sucre. We chose the set menu - BOB 68 p.p. You don't save much with this option - nothing if you choose a cappuccino at the end of the meal as we did, because this involves an extra charge - but we're not complaining. Everything was delicious, from the bruschetta, to the vegetarian pasta (very well cooked) to one of the best tiramisus we've ever had anywhere. The atmosphere is lovely, low-key, informal, but still 'correct'. A little off the beaten track, not a tourist haunt. We've already made our reservation for next week.

After seeing the reviews here, I coaxed my friends into trying to find this place, and it's definitely tucked away in a small street a little hike from the central plaza. The door is well-lit, though, and once we got closer, we saw the blue and white tiled sign signaling that we'd made it. We rang the bell and the owner answered and showed us to our table. Just in time, too, as we snagged the last free table around 8pm.

The food was delicious. I had the pasta all'amatriciana (tomato and bacon sauce) and my friends both had the vegetarian. We shared a bottle of red wine and two orders of bruschetta. Everything was delicious, well-seasoned, and fresh. The owner was very friendly and explained everything well (the menu only has the titles of dishes, so while some things are straightforward, many required further explanation). I would definitely recommend, but come early so that you can get a seat!

We were recommended by the guesthouse owner to go to this place. So on our last night in sucre we headed to this place. It's not sign posted really well so you can easily miss it. The place was really cosy and the food is simply quality Italian food. The owner was really nice even though we couldn't speak much spanish we had a nice chat.

You just don't find this quality of workmanship in a small restaurant very often in Bolivia. The tucked-away location, intimate dinning, varied menu and awesome wine list cannot be faulted.
We both went for the 65B set menu with a great bruchetta to start, I had a fantastic puttanesca (pasta was cooked perfectly), wife had an alfredo-like dish and the tiramisu dessert was divine!
We also shared a Chanti, the most expensive wine on the list but magical. You MUST try this place!
