“A must-see in Sucre”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2013

Textiles are one of the things Bolivian natives do best, and this museum honors them the way they should be. Great lay-out and explanations, also available in English and French. The guide, Iber, has excellent French and is eager to chat if you stick around for a few minutes to sip the complementary mate after your visit.

“Art in the Bolivian Altiplano”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2013

Located in Sucre, this is an exceptionally well organized museum of weaving, music, and background of indigenous art from communities in the Chuquisaca resgion of Bolivia.

Directed towards the traditions of Jalq’a and Tarabuco,it presents an absorbing picture of how their art has evolved over time and how its depth and sophistication continues to increase to this day. To an outsider, the most striking impression is the radical difference between the weavings produced by the two cultures despite the similarity in evnironments. An outstanding example of the triumph of human imagination under the most arduous of circumstances.

“Good displays, bad translations”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2013

These museums - there are two locations - have excellent visual displays.
An attempt has been made to present both Spanish and English explanations of cultural significance throughout the exhibition.
Frankly, the English translations are terrible. Not just gramatically incorrect, but often unintelligible.
