“Parador Santa Maria la Real”

This a beautiful hotel in central Sucre, Bolivia, walking distance to many great sites and the city center. We had the occasion to stay there twice and both times it was wonderful and relaxing. The rooms in the back of the hotel are quieter but all of them are large and charming and unique. The hotel itself is gorgeous with many outdoor spaces to rest and relax, including 2 roof top outdoor spaces. The hotel staff and the owed are lovely and very helpful. We did not have the opportunity to try out the spa and health club but we did tour the facility and it looked clean and well kept. Our breakfast was included both days and it was varied and good. The hotel also has free Wifi and it was reliable and fast.(Something we did not always encounter on our trip elsewhere in Bolivia). This was the nicest place we stayed on our trip and if I were lucky enough to return, I would stay at Parador Santa Maria la Real without hesitation. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to get away and relax while they are in Sucre.

Room Tip: Rooms in the rear of the hotel are quieter. All the rooms we had (and we had 4 different rooms) wer...

Really nice hotel, beautiful, in an old colonial house, really nicely decorated with old furniture and religious elements. Really really beautiful, one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Fair prices considering what it’s offered and what it is.
My room was really big and well decorated as well. Two beds, flat TV with many channels from many different countries, sofa, a really nice balcony with an amazing view from the city (not all rooms have a balcony), fridge. Bathroom was also big with a tube.
The owner received us in person when we arrived, really nice and polite man. All the employees were really polite as well, always smiling and friendly.
Breakfast was good as well – I’d improve it offering a larger variety of warm dishes instead of only eggs – but it was good.
Internet: Free Wi-Fi, different routers around, which made connection always working and with good signal.
Localization is perfect. A few steps from Plaza 25 de Mayo (city center), where the best stores and restaurants are. Sucre is small, so the main places of the city could easily be reached by foot as well.
I have no complaints at all about that place. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone going to Sucre.

After reading all the glowing reviews I am asking myself whether I was in the right place or not. Sure enough the building is a beautiful example of successful conversion, beautifully and tastefully appointed, has lovely courtyards with colonial furniture But that is about all the positive I can say. My room (208)was small, had no desk to write or place my laptop on. One window went to an air shaft transmitting the noise from below, the other one to the inner courtyard. The rooms was very dark. The tiny bathroom was extremly smelly and flooded completely when I tried to take a shower. The "Coffe Bar" was usually unattended and when I came in one day to have a cappucino and a sandwich or cake it took some time to round up someone, only to tell me "no cake, no sandwich, only coffee no cappucino". The WiFi did not work in the room and not always in the the hall. When I complained to the man at the reception he tried to ignore me pretending not to understand. Upon me insisting he finally managed to say "business center", my question where this would be was met with an icy glare and a turned back. I found it anyway with the help of another guest. Having to leave early on the last day we had arranged with the front desk to have some coffee and toast set out at 6:30 at the comedor. Guess what: nothing there.

Room Tip: stay away from '208

This hotel in Sucre is a real gem; located very conveniently near to all amenities including the main square and plenty of restaurants. We had a room on the top floor which was almost a suite with a lovely view over the surrounding town and able to hear the church clock thus not needing an alarm. A real oasis and can only recommend it as the place to stay. So peaceful and tranquil that we enjoyed every minute here; highly recommended.

Stayed mid June 2014

Room Tip: Top floor facing the cathedral

This well-located and beautiful hotel is a true pleasure. The rooms are gorgeous, the breakfast excellent, the owner very charming and the staff great. The level of luxury and attention to detail rival 5-star European hotels and triple the price. Would highly recommend. Only negative is that they do not accept American Express. A hotel of this caliber should give the guests that option.

Room Tip: The lookout on the top floor has some lovely views.

We stayed in this parador for two nights. It's a fabulous building, beautifully converted into a comfortable hotel. It is a pleasure to stay in such a gorgeous place. It even has its own museum. There is a great bar where you can get bar snacks and drinks (though the service is slow so be prepared for a wait) and the location right in the centre of Sucre means that you are very close to nice restaurants and cafes. There is a roof terrace with a Jacuzzi though we did not have time to use it. Our room was comfortable with original furnishings. The bathroom was modern and clean. Our only criticism was that the water in the shower was not very hot which made showering on a chilly morning a bit of a challenge! Breakfast was excellent. The owner was very friendly and showed us around the hotel when we arrived. Definitely a good place to stay in Sucre.

Room Tip: Our room was on the first floor overlooking one of the patio areas and was fine.

We have been extremely lucky to find this jewel in the center of Sucre. This hotel is a shining example of a colonial house filled with history and antiques. You will be awed when you enter the room, spacious, light-filled, full of character with a comfortable king size bed, a bathtub with jacuzzi and a walk-in shower. "Wifi that actually works in Bolivia". Nice breakfast included. Charming beyond belief. Best Hotel in all Bolivia and great value for the money
