Very nice clean room, friendly staff on the phone and in person. Stayed on a Friday night due only to availability but will visit again when I'm in the area. The lounge had entertainment but could not be heard from my room at the same end of the hotel. Do not be discouraged by the fact this is an independent hotel, it was as clean and well maintained as any chain.

It's not going to excite you but you will be comfortable.

Still feels like the Holiday Inn it used to be.

Everything about it was okay: bed, shower, comfort level. There was a fridge, which was handy.

There's lots of onsite parking and free WIFI.

Good location if you are exploring downtown Alpena and the Maritime Centre.

We needed a place to stay while my mother was at Alpena Regional Medical Center first in ICU then Hospice. We stayed the first night at regular room rates then the hospital gave us a form for a hospital discount. I have to point out Chad at the front desk he was very kind and helpful. There was another lady who was also very nice at the front desk also. Even the maids were kind. It was a sad trip as I lost my mother but everyone at the hotel was kind. They even advised us before we checked in the first night there was a pool tournament but we didn't hear any noise in the rooms, it was nice they let us know.

We ate breakfast every morning at the restaurant and the food was prepared perfectly and we especially enjoyed the marble rye toast. The orange juice is fresh squeezed. There is good coffee in the lobby in the morning you can take back to your room.

We also had dinner one night and the breaded walleye was delicious and we were pleasantly surprised at the wine prices.

It was a sad trip but the people of the Sanctuary Inn made it a little bit better.

Thank you.

Kathleen & Bob

Room Tip: The first night we had a double room which was perfectly fine. The next few days we had a king bed...

Friendly staff. Clean & comfortable room w/ frig & micorwave. Nice to have adult swim only from 10-11pm. Large entertainment & pool area with space for families & groups to gather. Enjoyed breakfast in CW's Restaurant. Close to attractions & downtown. Would stay again & will recommend to others.

We stayed here last night for a friends wedding. Check in was fast/easy. Nothing wrong with rooms at all. Comfy beds, big bathroom, a working TV. The place was PACKED (we were told at check in it would be). A big plus is the bar/lounge that was open till 2am. That place was also slamming. Breakfast buffet was great in the morning at the restaurant. Very good. Took a peek in the pool area and it was HUGE. Large pool, some putt-putt, pool table, some other table games. If you have kids, this place is a pretty safe bet. Overall a great property and if I ever see myself needing a room in APN again, I would most certainly come back.

Thank you for your review. The place was indeed slamming last weekend—so glad you had a great time! We will look forward to having you visit us again. Keep July 4 weekend in mind –nobody does the 4th like Alpena!

My family stayed in July, we had five kids and two adults. There was always something for the kids to do, video games, mini- golf and of course the huge pool! We ate at least one meal a day from the restaurant in the hotel. The food was always great.
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.
In addition there was a grocery store near by so we had all the comforts of home!

We recently stayed at the Sanctuary Inn, in a king room, for one night. We didn't have a poolside room, and the cost before taxes was $85 with the AAA discount. It's a decent enough place, but no room in Alpena is worth $90 a night.

Our one complaint was the drapes. Or lack of drapes. There's a sheer curtain that covers the entire window, and then a heavier curtain over that which one would assume could also be drawn to cover the entire window so as to block out daylight or prevent people from seeing in. One would be wrong. That curtain was approximately 1/4 the size of the entire window. I've never stayed anywhere that didn't have light-blocking curtains large enough to cover the entire window. My husband and I were flabbergasted.

We ate breakfast with family in the restaurant and everybody agreed that their meals were very tasty. There was also free coffee laid out in the lobby, which was nice because even though the room had a coffee pot, that coffee is never good. We weren't told at check-in that coffee would be available in the lobby; if we were, it would have saved us from making the gross room coffee. The only reason we found it is because my husband went to the lobby to get a newspaper and saw it. I had the munchies the night we were there and the vending machine snack food prices were quite reasonable.

Thank you for the review about your recent stay with us.

I am so sorry that our curtains caused problems during your stay. We have the decorative curtain panels in the front, the sheers behind those and in the very back a black out curtain. That curtain is actually white and heavy and prevents any light from coming in to the room. Sometimes people do have a difficult time finding it as it is to the side of the actual window pane. There is a wand to pull it across.

We are pleased that you enjoyed the other aspects of your stay and hope you will continue to use the Sanctuary Inn for your lodging needs when in the Alpena area.
