If you want a place where the employees try to make you feel welcome, stay here. The bathroom had a shower only and was outdated but beyond that, it was a lovely hotel! The service definitely compensated for the rooms.

The Bell Tower has excellent staff and service and has the best location right in the midst of campus. BUT... it needs updating -- and badly. The rooms have probably not been touched since the early 80s and it shows. The rooms are tiny, the bathrooms even tinier and the beds must be twenty years old. They should start with replacing the threadbare comforters from the local Travelodge with down comforters. Feather pillowtops could solve a lot a problems with the rock-hard mattresses that have collected thirty years or more of dust. That said, the hotels in Ann Arbor as a whole are dreadful, so there aren't any better alternatives. The service at the Bell Tower is always gracious and prompt and the Earle restaurant on the premises is fabulous. Did I mention the location? -- by far the best thing going for the Bell Tower is the fact that you can walk right onto campus from their doorstep and enjoy the oldtown area.

Stayed in this hotel with my wife for a wedding in June. First let's start with the positive traits; excellent location, very friendly and helpful staff, complimentary valet parking, nice restaurant and bar.
This hotel would really shine with a renovation to bring it into the present day. I realize that this property prides itself on its history but some modern touches would really improve the overall feel of the hotel. The old carpeting, furniture and small elevator are a true hindrance to making this property spectacular.
Hopefully, this is constructive criticism for the great staff at the Bell Tower!

Stayed one night last weekend. First floor room looked out on parking lot and that brick wall elsewhere mentioned. The room was small though reasonably well lit and equipped. Like many similar properties, the decor and fixtures were quite dated. At nine a.m., the breakfast room was nearly deserted but all the tables were dirty. Like many other campus hotels I have experienced, these folks are seliing location (not luxury or great service).

We were in Ann Arbor for a football game so location was our main concern. The hotels location is right on campus, we parked the car and were able to walk everyplace. The staff is friendly, for an older hotel they do keep the rooms clean including the towels and linens. Rooms are very small, if I stayed again I would request a double room, the room was slightly bigger and the bathroom in the double was much bigger. They do have a strict cancellation policy of 14 days during events such as football games (which I was not told upfront) upon arrival they seemed to have several reservation errors with different customers.

Spent a night at the Bell Tower Hotel in mid August 2004. The lobby was dimly lit and there was no street noise which gave the place a feeling like a quiet oasis from the hub-bub going on outside. The room was reasonably clean, although there was a lingering aroma of marijuana smoke... offering smoke free rooms at all would be a nice option. The shower had great water pressure which we love. All in all it was about what you expect for $125 per night. The room was on the small side, the TV was the cheapest variety. The pillows were at best average and there were no extra pillows in the closet. The hotel takes pains to inform you that they have many items available at the front desk if you happen to have forgotten something. They couldn't help us in terms of improving the view of the brick wall out our window, but after we fell asleep we didn't care about the view. Don't know what else Ann Arbor offers, but we would probably stay at the Bell Tower again if occassion brings us back.

My parents met and fell in love in Ann Arbor and decided to take me back to see where it all happened. For our stay, we chose the Bell Tower hotel due to its close proximity to the campus. The staff was friendly and the location was more than ideal, as it was right around the corner from the Diag and many of the shops. We had a 2 bedroom with a nice living room and three bathrooms. We greatly enjoyed our stay there and would reccomend it to anyone looking to fly out and visit their kids at U of M or just want to visit this unique college town.
