“Clean but very basic”
Reviewed 14 August 2010

When you're on a tight budget, it seems to me, you have to match your priorities to that of the places where you might stay.
We'd stayed at a Comfort Inn the previous night and had enjoyed their pool and their breakfast. This Microtel did not have a pool, and the breakfast was definitely one step down from Comfort Inn's, being all packaged bagels and pastries, less choice and a tiny serving area next to a vending machine. We commandeered the only table within sight of the serving area and were duly envied by all the other guests. The room, however, seemed higher quality than at the Comfort Inn, the bed equally excellently comfortable, big mirror that made the room seem larger though I don't think it actually was.
I think the bathroom was also a bit more modern. For me and my family, on a road trip, we need a pool to stretch out in after a day's drive, and a decent breakfast is very important. The wifi was marginal for our room.

The hotel was clean and the staff was very helpful. I was there for 4 days and I would stay there again...especially for the price. You can't find a better hotel in the area for the price and get such a good room with extremely helpful and friendly staff. Next to a Holiday Inn and the Microtel was less expensive and just as clean and nice.

Stayed for a night during a long road trip, and had no complaints. When they gave us a room that smelled like people had smoked in it, they immediately changed and upgraded us to a non-smoking suite as there was no other double available. Breakfast was nice for its variety (bagels, danish, cereals).

We arrived at the hotel very tired after a long day of driving/sightseeing. Our room was very clean and didn't smell, but the lobby and the hallway smelled of smoke. Our room was very hot so we fiddled around with the thermostat and nothing happened. We finally cracked a window and I do mean cracked - - it only opened about 2 inches. The person at the desk gave us some ideas to try with the thermostat and offered to move us to another room but we were so tired we declined. Finally around 1AM, we were so hot and cigarette smoke was the only thing blowing in the window, so we asked to move and were given keys to a smoking room! UGH. So back down to the desk, wait, wait, wait for the desk person who we suspect was outside smoking and we were given keys to another room that did not smell and we had a very comfortable night. The rooms were very clean and have a lot of space, the price is very good, the"breakfast" is prepackaged rolls and muffins and maybe a piece of fruit - I wasn't sure, we just drove down the road for breakfast. It looked like a lot of people stay there who are visiting the hospital, so there must be one nearby. The workers were all friendly and we were told that they had just gone Non-Smoking....HMMMM word was not out yet because people were smoking all over the place. If we are ever in that area again, we would probably try it again because it was clean and our room did not smell and the price was right, but we would try the thermostat before we unloaded the cart!

I stayed at this hotel with a few colleagues from work for 2 nights during a U of Michigan recruiting trip. The rooms were pretty nice for a 2-3 star hotel. The free wireless internet worked great. The breakfast was made up of packaged bagels and muffins, but was OK I guess. The beds were surprisingly nice.

I would definitely stay here again if I was looking for a cheap place to stay with free internet. Nothing great, but surprisingly nice for the price.

We arrived at the hotel late in the evening after arriving late into DTW and picking up a rental car. The hotel is about 30 minutes from the airport and pretty much all interstate. It can be hard to find in the dark (it's right off the Plymouth Rd exit of a state highway, behind the BP and Holiday Inn).
We went up to the room, which was pretty spacious and much better than I had anticipated for the price we paid. However, the A/C was not working at all. We called down to the desk and were in the room next door (with functioning A/C) within 5 minutes.
Breakfast is not to be recommended. There's no place to sit and "continental breakfast" means Otis Spunkmeyer wrapped pastries, coffee from the machine and OJ. It's minimal. There is a Big Boy across the street which serves hot food.
The hotel is within 10-15 minutes of downtown Ann Arbor with an abundance of restaurants and brew pubs.
If you want a decent clean place to stay and have a car to get around, this hotel is recommended. It's bare bones, but serves its purpose and at a great price. You have a fridge, TV with about 15 channels plus HBO, computer with printer in the lobby, and a big room.
