“Too much work to have fun”
Reviewed 15 January 2014

Finally had the opportunity to partake. Ethiopian tea with cinnamon, & honey wine not too sweet with a little tartness were good. Hard to get attention from waiter. Fun food tho some too spicy and forced to eat too much bread since no utensils. Pricey during restaurant week.

“A good spot for dinner”
Reviewed 19 December 2013

I was on the way to another restaurant when I walked by the Blue Nile and decided to try it. I have always liked Ethiopian food and wanted to see how it fared to others. It is within walking distance of the central campus of the University of Michigan. There were also plenty of seating for any size of party, with small tables or booths. The overall décor was alright, but nothing special.

The menu offered different meat and vegetarian dishes. Dinner was all you can eat and it was not possible to order single dishes. This was disappointing as I would've preferred less food. The dinner cost about $19 which is a lot, but is a good value if you eat a lot. The only thing that I would've liked was not to be charged extra for lamb. Not sure why they would charge more for it.

The food is served with the traditional Ethiopian bread, or injera. You use the bread to scoop up the food. While the food was good, it was not necessarily up to par to others that I've had. In their defense the other places I'd been were in ethnic neighborhoods in Washington, DC and other main areas. For Ann Arbor, the Blue Nile does provide a glimpse into Ethiopian cuisine and good food. The service was good and added to the overall experience.

If you are in Ann Arbor I would recommend the Blue Nile. I would definitely consider going their again. It is better than the cookie-cutter chain restaurants that are located in the area where you'll spend just as much money for average food.
