“Not what it used to be.”
Reviewed 11 November 2007

I used to drive many miles for a burger from this blast from the past. They provide a great variety of items to add to your burger. Where else could I get a quint on pumpernickel with fried egg, grilled onions, mushrooms and bleu cheese. Over the years the food has gone downhill though and the prices have skyrocketed. Last time I was in I paid $9 for a burger and some fried vegetables. The service is just about the worst around, with people serving you food that you would not sit next to in public. Generally the staff appear dirty and unkept and so does the grill. Apparently the staff think that not bothering to clean the grill gives the food more flavor. I am just bettering on more bacteria. Last time I was in I was overcharged $2 and even after bring the problem to the attention of the staff that they were charging me for a large fried veggies when I had ordered a small they simply told me that I was wrong and refused to change the price even though the math was simple and obviously wrong. I find it a shame that I cannot enjoy it like I used to as it has been around so long my parent's talk about it from their college days.

“THE local place to get a burger”
Reviewed 4 June 2006

Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger is an Ann Arbor institution. It's been there since 1953 and regularly gets "best burger" awards in local polls. It's the food and the atmosphere that make Blimpy's what it is. If you're a fan of burgers, or local color, you won't want to miss this joint.

What they've got is burgers made from freshly-ground beef, fixed a million ways (more, actually--someone did the math) and also a variety of vegetable side dishes based on the concept of "If You Deep Fry It, It Will Be Tasty."

Blimpy's has its own ordering system which you're sure to screw up at first, but enduring the gruffness is part of the experience. When you get there, go to the end of the line. Get your desired drink from the cooler, and get a tray. if there are two of you, get two trays. Study the menu, knowing that a single burger is not enough for a normal mortal. A double may not do the trick either.

When asked, you order the burger, and anything that needs to be cooked with it (such as bacon or an egg) or that needs to go in the fryer (fries, breaded mushrooms, breaded cauliflower, etc). Do not discuss bun choice, toppings, or cheese until they are good and ready for that information (they will let you know).

The seats and tables are bolted to the floor and wretchedly uncomfortable. Fortunately, you won't notice anymore after you sink your teeth into that burger.
