Fairfield Inn Ann Arbor
Ranked #25 of 35 Hotels in Ann Arbor
Reviewed 12 June 2008

We decided to stay at the Fairfield Inn based on previous stays at this chain. What a mistake!

To start at the beginning:
1. We tried to check in at 3:15, but were told our room was not ready despite the posted check-in time of 3:00. We left and came back at 3:50. STILL not ready. We waited a few minutes and finally were checked in. I will say that the front desk lady was nice about it, if nothing else.

2. So, we get on the elevator. It's dirty. The elevator was also making some incredibly uncomfortable clunking noises as if we would soon be plummeting three stories down whether we liked it or not.

3. Off the elevator. The hallways are dirty. Do they sweep this place?

4. The room is, thankfully, clean. Not very big, but the flatscreen TV was nice. However, the remote didn't work very well!

5. The bathroom looked as if it was in serious need of an update. The water also wasn't very hot.

A couple of positives:
1. I was absolutely shocked when I turned on the laptop and the wi-fi was immediately recognized and working. Shocked and amazed.

2. The bed was pretty nice. The kind that you sort of sink into. I would not have been surprised at creaky springs and a .25 cent slot for the old vibrating bed trick, but it wasn't a bad bed.

We paid $99 for the room. Honestly, that's about $79 too much. I've never stayed in one of the truly "budget" motels, but this one could not possibly be much better than those.

The room was brightly and cheerily decorated.

The Bed was extremely comfortable with a lot of pillows.

The room was clean as was the bathroom.

The view we had in this room wasn't great (the roof of pool room), but we weren't there for the view. The rest of the rooms seemed to have a standard view.

Read the review about the problem with the fitted sheets and didn’t understand, now I do, the sheet comes off and attacks you in the night! They need to work on that.

We stayed for a few days and the second day they took the used soap and shampoo out of the shower but left no new ones.

The pool was a bit cool but you could get used to it after awhile.

Great hi def TV, no hi def stations or movies everything looks a bit distorted.

No glasses just foam coffee cups.

I guess I just expect a bit more from a Fairfield Inn then say a Red Roof.

There will be few surprises if you stay at this motor hotel in Ann Arbor. It is located just off the interstate in an area filled with hotels and a parking lot will be your view. Chain restaurants and a shopping mall are within close driving distance.
The rooms are small, clean , nicely furnished, with concrete ceilings and small bathrooms. The sink is located in the room separate from the tub and toilet. I found the bed to be too soft for me, but the extra pillows are a nice touch. The front desk staff was cheerful and professional.
They have an above-average continental breakfast which includes waffles, micro-wave breakfast sandwiches, and cooked rice everyday.
It is an inexpensive and clean place to stay if your travels take you to Ann Arbor.

I've stayed at this hotel twice. It's a pretty good choice for Ann Arbor. The staff is friendly, the rooms comfortable and the continental breakfast buffet is a nice touch (especially the "make your own waffles"). The beds (newly improved mattresses) are comfortable, but during both stays the fitted sheets were too small for the beds and came off during the night. I mentioned it to the front desk and housekeeping staff during each visit. The first time, the housekeeper tried to get the sheet to fit better. This time, the person at the front desk told me she heard that complaint before. Nothing done, however. The place also needs a better cleaning. The rooms were clean, but the stainless steel walls in the elevators are so grimy that people wrote things on them. The buffet needed someone to clean up the crumbs and messes. Management needs to pay attention to these details.

This is a nice clean place to stay. I liked the fact that they no longer have bedspreads, just a nice small quilt-like piece at the bottom of the bed. This is a very convenient location and close to restaurants and shopping.

The check -in was quick and the desk personel courteous and helpful. The lobby was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is right off of I-94 and very convenient and close to restaurants, Briarwood Mall and the great U of M. Although the room was standard size, it was clean and the king sized bed very comfortable. We called housekeeping for an extra blanket and it was delivered to our room within minutes. The continental breakfast was very good which included muffins, bagels, waffles, fruit, yogurt, juice, pastries, oatmeal, cereal, etc. I did not go swimming but the pool area was very clean. We paid $71.00 a night which is a real bargin for Ann Arbor! We would absolutely stay there again if the occasion arises.
