Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort Fairway Villas

Reviewed 7 August 2014

Have stayed here a number of times across many summers with a group. We are in for a few days playing golf and trying to relax. The Gull Lake Inn (really a motel) has been good for us because we a) we are not looking for luxury, and b) we want easy access to the courses, and c) they try to please as much as they can. We stay in one of the rooms considered a suite, that has 2 rooms - one with 3 full beds and a bath, and one with a murphy bed, its own bath, and a few couches. The rooms also have two small fridges, a table, and a TV in each room. There is coffee, juice, and bagels etc. a short walk from any room each morning. Don't stay here if you want deluxe in any way. The rooms are tired and a bit dingy, but the beds are comfortable. There is not much to eat, see, or experience in the area but for golf. The exception is if you can get out on Gull Lake. The staff is not big, but they are friendly, and have tried to accommodate us in different ways when we have asked -- mostly a late check out so we can get in a final round of golf and still have access to a shower. They have done a lot to have grills, putting green, horseshoes and some other amenities around the grounds. It is so close to Gull Lake View pro shop you can walk over, get a cart, and drive it back to your room to get your bag.

Room Tip: Have only been in the second floor suites, which are great because they have a big deck right outsid...

Living in southern Ontario puts some of the best golf anywhere right in your backyard, whether thats around the Toronto area or into the Muskokas or across the border. Gull Lake View was perfect for our group of eight.

Just west of Battle Creek Michigan, it's an easy drive from many areas. Check in was very quick, and we were allowed to get into our villa early, which was ideal since we had a round booked for the first afternoon.

The villas are not luxurious, but the bedrooms are a good size, and all the appliances work well (nice...especially the icemaker! You can't have scotch without an icemaker) Every unit has a patio. A few more lawn chairs would be nice....

We played five courses, Bedford Valley, Stonehedge North and South, and the East and West courses on the Gull Lake property. They are all good tracks. Bedford is about 15 km away, and honestly, it was our least favorite track. There's nothing wrong with it, it has some terrific holes, and is in excellent condition. It just didn't have the same ambience.

Stonehedge North and South are fine courses, with plenty of challenge for anyone. We found both Gull lake courses to be the most scenic....especially East. And in both cases they are surprising .....you'll be quite impressed when you move from one hole to the next with elevation changes, and hole layouts which will give you pause.

The restaurant and lounge are conveniently located and provide excellent service. The food was quite good.

Located a two minute walk away is the Dock at Bayview. It's an excellent restaurant and bar if you want to get away from the resort for a night.

Just a few improvements we would suggest: Like I said a few more lawn chairs would be nice in each unit, and Gull lake should just quote all it's prices including carts. Our reservation was somewhat messed up, we had asked for the carts to be included in the price, but it wasn't done, we we had to pay 16 dollars on the first round each day. Didn't cost us any more, but it was a pain.

Oddly enough, there were no beverage carts out on the courses. Maybe it was the time of year (late June) but we found that unusual.

All that being said, the staff was outstanding, the courses were great and we had a terrific time. Go.....you'll enjoy it!

Just returned from this complex. We went with eight golfers. The courses are wonderful - they have five courses and our favorites were Bedford Country Club and Stonehedge. The Villas are ideally located but very sparse. You need to take napkins, paper towels, coffee, plastic forks and knives and plates. Also liquid dishwasher soap for starters. The microwave was great for popcorn so bring some. Very clean- the setup is two bedrooms, two bathrooms with a small living area in the middle. It is in the woods so bring bug spray. Pro shops nice, restaurant great for breakfast . The area food establishments are not anything special and they have outdoor grills at the villa sites for cookouts. Nice place for girls weekend of golf- most groups there were men however. We would go back.Mornings and evenings are chilly so bring long pants and layers,

This place has 5 different courses. Villas have 2 single beds on each side of the main living room/kitchenette.
Each wing has own bathroom. Towels are refreshed daily if you want and beds made up also.
Great package deals! What great service everywhere. Restaurant staff fantastic. Food is generous in portions. Specials daily in restaurant. Pro shop staff accommodating. Four of the courses are very close by. The Bedford course is 14 miles away but very worth the drive. There is a putting green behind your villa.
We ran into a loud, obnoxious group of "boys" away from their wives for a few days who only know the F word, so don't expect serenity everywhere. If you love a great golf trip, this is the place to go!

It was raining at home so we took off. The Gull Lake courses were beautiful, the sun was shining and the lake was close by. Lots of fun. The food was good at the restaurant and the service was great. The south course is a must play.

This is about the 5th or 6th time we have gone to this resort. The staff are excellent. The dining on site is surprisingly good. Very fast breakfast to get the golfers going. All of the courses are close and in really good shape.
Unfortunately it does not appear like any money is being spent to improve or even maintain the Villas. The carpets have horrible stains all over the place. The Kitchen is really lacking. When we showed up the dishwasher had dirty dishes in it. When we ran the dishwasher it made the glasses dirtier.
Beds are not really comfortable. And the TV is some really old, small piece of junk.
I rate the courses high, but the Villas are getting nasty. No bugs at least....that we know of??
It is set up really well for a guys golf trip. 4 separate beds, walking distance to the clubhouse, practice green out the back door to horse around on. If you don't mind 'fishing cottage' like accommodations, then this is a great place to stay and play. Excellent value.

This is the second year I spent three days at Gull Lake View with 15 other guys for a getaway weekend. The five golf courses are challenging, were in very good condition and have a lot of variety among the holes. The staff was friendly and courteous. The restaurant on site is pretty good. The prices are all very reasonable (three beers from the drink card for less than $10!).

I would not call this a resort hotel, however. The rooms are about average motel level rooms. We stayed in Villas - two bedrooms with two full (not queen) beds. Having two bathrooms was nice. The beds are reasonable but a bit small for us six footers. The kitchens were clean, but the supplies in the kitchen were very limited. With one person in a bed the Villa sleeps 4, and that is exactly how many plates we had - as a result we had to wash the plates before breakfast. Also a microwave would have been nice.

We will be back next year. The golf was great, the staff was friendly, and for a guys getaway weekend it was very reasonable.
