I selected this hotel because it had everything I value in a hotel.
-full kitchenette with full refrigerator and dishwasher
-free, reliable WiFi
-free parking
-swimming pool and fitness room (though both quite small)
-restaurant on premises
=free hot breakfast
All of this was great, and the staff was very pleasant and accommodating

All that said, the hotel is somewhat dowdy, and it is located in the middle of a concrete parking lot with virtually no landscaping or view. It also hosts small meetings and conventions, so maybe guests don't care about the view . There is a fair amount to do in the area, the Minnesota Zoo being one of the excellent attractions. The Mississippi River and lots of biking and hiking trails are also The Mall of America is also close, and the Twin Cities are 30 minutes away in non-rush hour traffic. Apple Valley is a pretty suburban community, but it is not a Mecca of great cuisine. Mostly franchise fast-food with a few Asian and Mexican restaurants of middling quality.

In short, the hotel is a comfortable place with all the amenities one could want, without being truly upscale or much of a destination. For that reason, it is fairly good value for money.

Room Tip: All the rooms are suites with kitchens. Rooms nearer the elevator are larger and more convenient. None of the rooms have much of a view.

Our entire experience with the GrandStay Hotel and Conference in Apple Valley exceeded all of our expectations. Our family gathering for a 90th birthday party was a success because of the individual attention/concern of the employees at GrandStay. We felt welcomed and important. The front desk employees were attentive to our every need, and Laura's special attention to the actual room set up made it a perfect day/evening for all of us. We cannot adequately express our gratitude!

My family of 4 stayed in the 2 bedroom suite. The pull out sleeper sofa was very uncomfortable. My daughter slept on the pull out sleeper and had several very poor nights of sleep.

The breakfast was poor. The coffee had coffee grounds in it several days. The hotel staff did not seem to care.

Besides that, it was very quiet hotel.

The pool was small.

Room Tip: Don't plan on sleeping on the sleeper sofa, it is very uncomfortable.

I am sorry for the issues that you experienced with our coffee during your stay. We just started with a new coffee company on June 14th and they did not set up our brewing equipment right. This was resolved on June 17th and we have had a lot of complements on our new coffee since this issue was resolved. I truly hope to see you the next time you are in town.

Thank you,

Tony Lawler

We stayed for one night after flying 12 hours from Switzerland. The hotel was notable for being a quiet place with a very busy bar on the ground floor. It was a Friday night and at 130 in the morning the bar moved upstairs to the second floor and partied until 300 or 400. The room next door clearly had 4 or6 adults and a lot of x rated action. Nice if you enjoy that through the walls but tough after a long day on the road.

A big place like that should be able to put empty rooms between occupied. And they should not be mixing the bar patrons with real travellers. If they want to be a hookup joint, then it should be half the price.

In any event, they got the first bad review I ever took the time to write and I am doing so warn anyone else away from such a nightmare of a nights sleep. You would have to be crazy or a porn fiend to stay at this joint on a fri or sat night. On the other hand, if you are looking for a good hookup bar, this is probably the place to be in apple valley.

I am truly sorry for the issues that you experienced during your stay. The Bar & Grill is independently owned and operated. We try to get Paninos to cooperate with us in regard to their noise levels. Since they are owned and operated by another company we do not get much cooperation. We are hoping to have a new restaurant tenant in the near future so that our guests do not experience these issues.

Thank you,

Tony Lawler

First let me say I got a great deal on this hotel at hotels.com paying avg $71 a night for 5 nights in a 1 bdrm suite.

We LOVED this hotel! The layout of our room was great- so much so that my husband measured it out saying he would love to build a cabin with the same plan. We brought our 2 yr old and 5 mth old with us and they slept in the living room area while we slept in the bedroom. The 2 TV's were great with kids shows on one and our own shows in our room after the kids were in bed.

Decor was all newer and the room was clean. The bathroom was large with tons of counter space. The bath products were from bath & body works, which I loved! The kitchen saved us a bunch of time and money since we could eat in our room without having to bundle and load and then unload the kids and all their accessories. The only thing I would have wished for was an oven. We used both the stove and microwave provided!

The location is great with Kohl's, Super Target, Walmart, Sam's Club, Menards, Home Depot, Best Buy, Cub Foods, etc all basically within walking distance. Mall of America is 20min away.

The breakfast was awesome with the regular donuts, (chocolate!) waffles, fruit, cereal- with the addition of eggs & bacon, or omelet & sausage, or breakfast burrito!

Customer service was great, responding to our requests with excellent timing. Housekeeping did a great job keeping our room clean- even with the mess a toddler leaves behind.

Some people have commented on the noise the bar makes. The bar is on the first floor and we were above it on the third floor and we never heard it. Saying that, we stayed here Sun- Fri so I can't comment on noise level on the weekend.

We would certainly come again!

Room Tip: Look at prices on hotels.com!!!
