Don't let a dislike of this popular product sway your decision to check out this great FREE museum! Tucked away a mile off of the Interstate, this little gem is a must do for Austin, Minnesota. First, be sure to take a photo of the exterior of the building. It is very cool and makes an excellent Christmas card. The receptionistss are SUPER helpful and will take your pictures in the lobby so no one feels left out. Be sure to check out the 10 minute movie at the beginning to get into the spirit of SPAM. The museum itself can be conquered in 30-45 minutes, if need be OR allow yourself an hour to take in the history that is SPAM. The gift shop is great too! We bought a case of the multiple flavors of SPAM for only $3 each. A great place for kids and adults!

The spam museum is well done - very thorough - very informative and done in an interesting way with movies, great displays, games, picture opportunities, etc. The gift shop has every spam related item imaginable!
The museum will be closed for over a year beginning September 2014 as it will be moved to a new location in downtown Austin. Austin is 40 minutes or so from Rochester.

The museum was a lot of fun to go through. It gives a great review and history of Hormel foods as well as how SPAM came about. Plan on spending several hours taking your time and enjoying all the information. This is a kids friendly environment and very educational.

Interesting museum with tons of information about how Spam got started. Ten minue film which kids will really enjoy. Also another film on the women's band which expanded to singers and dancers. Amazed at all the products that Hormel has.

Pre-internet, I found out about this museum and sent for a catalog. I gave my office mates Spam-related paraphernalia for Christmas. I have wanted to visit the Museum ever since! I took advantage of the proximity and it was worth the drive! This museum is very well done. Very slick and informative. The gift shop was really fun. Spam pencils for everyone. I do wish they had had postit notes. You don't get to see the factory, but there are some fun things nonetheless. Parking is easy. It would have been fun to have had a restaurant serving spam-related foods, although I think Spam is mostly for fun and not for culinary delight! Definitely worth a trip.
