The location of the hotel is superb, right on the lake, and built out into the lake are a good-sized heated swimming pool and a jacuzzi. We liked our room with a great view, quiet at night and with cozy comforters. The hotel provided umbrellas and also red rain jackets. At breakfast there was a machine to squeeze your own fresh orange juice and an espresso machine with excellent coffee.
What we didn't like: the food at lunch was average, the fresh fruit at breakfast was so old it was nearly fermented, the towels in the bathroom were rough (but the ones in the spa were soft), there were large noisy groups of Chinese at breakfast every morning, tea bags in the room were so stale we couldn't figure out the flavor, and our bathroom sink was so uniquely designed that even the housekeeper couldn't figure out how to make water stay in the basin.
Worst of all was the lack of service. We didn't have poor service; rather there was no service. One evening we went to the lakeside restaurant but there were no staff there so eventually we gave up and went across the street to eat. There was never anyone in the spa so we couldn't use the lockers; a guest finally told us we should get a key from Reception. I tried at least 3 times to find out more about the menu at the Romantik restaurant but couldn't find anyone, even at mealtimes to help me. There was no one at the Concierge desk; one woman valiantly tried to handle everything at Reception. Laundry take 3 days and the hotel takes no responsibility. (But they did clean our room at the time we asked for it.)
The hotel is trading on its past when it was the site for a famous movie made from an operetta, but needs some refurbishment. It was fun to watch the movies about it plus Sound of Music on the hotels TV channel. The square in front of the hotel is so freshly painted that it looks like a movie set. And the hotel is right in the center by the church and the boat docks.
The funniest part of our experience: the hotel offers nightly turndown service but only if you ask for it and pay 7 euros.
Go for the location, the pool and the jacuzzi, the interesting hotel in 9 buildings, but eat elsewhere and don't expect much in the way of service.
