sure, lovely location, impressive pool, nice spa and some nice touches (bathrobes for kids) But once that is ticked off, there is not much left to enjoy. Particularly missing: service. In the sense of: Kind staff, genuinely pleased to have you, thinking ahead of the guest - the way a true host/hostess should. Examples: park your own car in the garage, blocks away, rain or sunshine. Surcharge per (small) child: € 35 although we already booked a (very small) Junior Suite. Surcharge for: "having to open the sofa bed". The terrace at lunch: stressed waitstaff, a totally tourist-y experience. Dinner: "We have more guests than seats in the restaurant; you should have called." Rather than, at check in: " There is limited space, should I reserve a table?" Check Out: Threat of a €5,- charge if the key card is not turned in. So: no, nothing terrible. But also: nothing special.

We are very sorry to hear, that your stay with us was not as it was supposed to be! You are very right, that some things should not happen especially the friendlyness of our staff is usually something we are wellknown forl

Kids until the age of 6 are free of charge in the parents room including breakfast. From 7 years on there is a small charge for the kids again including breakfast. We have 94 different rooms - each is unique is size and view. Please advice next time, you'd like a rather big room.

Best regards

The location of the hotel is superb, right on the lake, and built out into the lake are a good-sized heated swimming pool and a jacuzzi. We liked our room with a great view, quiet at night and with cozy comforters. The hotel provided umbrellas and also red rain jackets. At breakfast there was a machine to squeeze your own fresh orange juice and an espresso machine with excellent coffee.

What we didn't like: the food at lunch was average, the fresh fruit at breakfast was so old it was nearly fermented, the towels in the bathroom were rough (but the ones in the spa were soft), there were large noisy groups of Chinese at breakfast every morning, tea bags in the room were so stale we couldn't figure out the flavor, and our bathroom sink was so uniquely designed that even the housekeeper couldn't figure out how to make water stay in the basin.

Worst of all was the lack of service. We didn't have poor service; rather there was no service. One evening we went to the lakeside restaurant but there were no staff there so eventually we gave up and went across the street to eat. There was never anyone in the spa so we couldn't use the lockers; a guest finally told us we should get a key from Reception. I tried at least 3 times to find out more about the menu at the Romantik restaurant but couldn't find anyone, even at mealtimes to help me. There was no one at the Concierge desk; one woman valiantly tried to handle everything at Reception. Laundry take 3 days and the hotel takes no responsibility. (But they did clean our room at the time we asked for it.)

The hotel is trading on its past when it was the site for a famous movie made from an operetta, but needs some refurbishment. It was fun to watch the movies about it plus Sound of Music on the hotels TV channel. The square in front of the hotel is so freshly painted that it looks like a movie set. And the hotel is right in the center by the church and the boat docks.

The funniest part of our experience: the hotel offers nightly turndown service but only if you ask for it and pay 7 euros.

Go for the location, the pool and the jacuzzi, the interesting hotel in 9 buildings, but eat elsewhere and don't expect much in the way of service.

Room Tip: Get a lakeside room.

The pros and cons.

The pros:
The hotel is located just beside the lWolfgang lake. There is a private sun bathing place (like a real beach but the surface of the «beach» is made of stone and plastic) in front of the hotel. There are several arranges approaches to the lake from the «beach». The «beach» is equipped with with a lean-to so you can hide from the sun easily. Also a small springboard is at the «beach». Actually there are a lot of suitable approaches to the lake all over St Wolfgang village. You can also rent boats, cutters, and catamarans. A church is adjacent to the hotel and they ring the bells every 15 minutes (at night too). There is wi-fi in the hotel free of charge. If you want to be taken from Salzburg airport to the hotel you can order bus transfer from the hotel. It costs 100 euros. Like taxi which you can take just at the airport. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, shops not far from the hotel. Apples are offered to the people staying at the hotel here and there. Free of charge. Breakfasts are tasty so much. It's convenient that the lights are not linked to the room key card. You can turn the lights on entering the room without putting the room key card into the lock. In the room one can find special beach baskets, windcheaters, and umbrellas. Every morning having breakfast you can find a new edition of the hotel newspaper in the restaurant. There are a lot of useful information there about hiking, weather, excursions, changes of the hotel work, etc. By the way hiking sticks are available at the hotel reception.

The cons:
A lot of people smoke here and there. You have to breathe with tobacco smoke constantly at every cafe and restaurant since you will be in the open air because of the good weather. At the «beach» of the hotel people smoke a lot too.
There are only few rooms equipped with air conditioners. The only thing you can do is ask for a fan. At the beach entrance there is a sign «please don't reserve sun chairs». But everybody always reserves them fron early morning even on cloudy days. So there is high probability not to find a vacant sun chair especially on sunny days.
The «beach» is open only from 08:00 to 20:00. So if you'd like to go for a swim in the early morning you would fail to do it. But there are entrances to the lake at other places out of the hotel.
Be aware that when you enter the lake from the «beach» it's 20 meters depth. There is no bodyguard there although there are a lot of elderly people and children there.
But there is no internet connection on the «beach» although it's very close to the building of the hotel. And no internet at some places on the 1st floor. On the whole the internet connection is not very good in the hotel.
It's very convenient that you can have lunch just at the «beach» since there are tables there and you can order dishes from the hotel restaurant. But while rush hours when everybody goes to have lunch the waiters usually fail to come over the number of orders. Thus we had to go to a very good restaurant not far from the hotel.

We have just returned from a very pleasant meal in the Weisses Rössl, we weren't hotel guests but just visited for a special meal. We not only enjoyed the food, but were pleasantly surprised that the prices in the Seeterrasse restaurant were very reasonable considering the world-wide renown of the hotel. We had a good selection of the starters (local sheeps cheese with salad garnish and dressing, plus mushroom soup), the main course (salad with strips of breadcrumbed turkey, salmon trout with crayfish risotto) and the desserts (ice cream with pumpkin seed oil, damson slice with walnut ice cream and cinnamon cream). The house wines were more than acceptable (the wine list was a little expensive for our requirements). The service was excellent. On a summer's evening the view across the lake is stunning. Recommended as a special treat!

Room Tip: Not a room tip, but the Seeterrasse (lakeside) restaurant is less expensive than the Romantic Restaurant.

The stay here was a real treat from beginning to end The highlight for us was swimming in the outside pool, in the lake; swimming in warm water and looking at the beautiful mountains all around. The room was fantastic and the food was wonderful. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to splash out on a special treat.

Room Tip: Would go for a lake view; it's worth the extra.
