“Comfortable friendly hotel”
Reviewed 2 June 2014 via mobile

This was our first visit to Austria and so also this hotel. The room was clean and continued to be for the week we were there. The bed very comfortable and all the staff had a friendly attitude. Outside the hotel was a pleasant lawn area with seats and tables. Comments made on previous reviews about the bar being closed are correct but we believe that drinks can be ordered from reception when bar is closed. This hotel has self service buffet for breakfast and dinner. I am not keen on buffet for dinner but this food was well cooked with a good selection. The downside was sometimes we had to wait for replenishment of some dishes, also they did run out of plates a couple of times, this was a new experience for me. This last couple of points is what stopped me from giving 5 points. Would I go again? Yes.

This is a bit out-of-the-way but since St. Wolfgang is a small town it's easy to walk from here to the city center. The hotel had a nice buffet dinner for our group and a good breakfast the next morning. There are places to sit in the lobby for a drink but the bar and reception close up fairly early. The room was clean and adequate but don't expect luxury. There seemed to be quite a few hotels in the town and it's pleasant to walk along the lake and the streets with shops and cafes. Worth a stop if you're in the area to enjoy biking, boating, hiking, or shopping.

Without doubt, the very best hotel in our Austria trip. Excellent rooms, unmatchable view and the curling track where people get together right next to the hotel makes it just unforgettable. The idyllic location, with the beautiful round bed in the superior room and a view to boot makes it our top rated hotel. The breakfast was excellent, as was the restaurant. The hotel makes you feel part of wolfgangsee, part of a great big family, right from the front desk to the service team. Excellent exceptional and exquisite.
Note: Celebrated my wife's birthday, went out in the morning to come back and find a bottle of champagne for her waiting in the evening. Nice touch guys, really appreciated.

Room Tip: Take the superior rooms, 305 (top 2 facing the lake). You' ll never forget it.

We stayed here for just under a week in March 14. The hotel was very clean, the room excellent & the staff helpful. Our room (with a balcony) overlooked the road at the front which had very little traffic and had great views across to the mountains. The Schaffberg railway is only a 5 minute walk away, although it doesn't open until around Easter time so wasn't open during our visit. The main town area can be reached in 10 minutes. As it was out of season the whole town was quiet with many places closed. However, there were enough cafes/restaurants/hotels open to be able to get food during the day without much trouble. For evening meal there was a choice of starters, main course & dessert & if anyone left feeling hungry it would have been their own fault as it was both excellent & plentiful. Our only minor issue was that the small bar closed between 8.30pm & 9pm, although you could stay in the bar area after it finished serving. We would happily stay there again.

We stayed for a week in August 2013 as 2nd part of twin centre holiday to Austria. Previous reviews suggested the hotel had gone through a rocky period but we are pleased to report that the hotel Foersterhof is comfortable with very helpful staff and great selection of food & drink. For the evening meal, in addition to salad and soup, there was a selection of 3 mains and variety of desserts. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk to the town centre and less to the Schafbergbahn. There are a variety of walks including a gentle stroll to Strobl or the more challenging walk following the 'Pilgrim's Trail' to Fuerberg or up the gorge to the Schwarzensee both from St Wolfgang. The regular boat services allows you to get around the lake and there is also a cheap bus service. In common with most hotels the Foersterhof's own beach / waterfront is about 5 minutes away and provides sunbeds & umbrellas, which struggles with capacity at peak times, although it is kept clean - there is a beach cafe close by.

My wife and I have just returned from the hotel Foersterhof having spent 7 days there. The hotel is situated on the outskirts of St Wolfgang, 10/15 minutes walk from the town centre. However from the hotel you can start lots of walks from easy and mostly flat to difficult (top of the Schaffberg mountain).
The hotel is fine and our room (with a circular bed) was spacious and comfortable. The hotel & rooms were very clean. The food is buffet style with a choice of starters, 3 main courses and several desserts. The choice was OK but might get repetitive if staying more than 7 days. The hotel has a private area on the lakeside with loungers and sunshades and is next door to a small café/restraunt.
A downside is the limited midday meal selection but there are plenty of nice snack bars on the lakeside. We travelled with Inghams and our tour manager Stephen was very efficient.
St Wolfgang itself and the surrounding area is very picturesque and there is folk dancing and a band plays in the town square once a week.

Room Tip: Our room 301 was in the shade in the afternoon which was great as the weather was very hot and no ro...

We stayed during a very wet half term week. The Hotel is about a 15min walk into the centre of the Town. Which whilst we were there it was very empty and quiet; and restaurants at night were mostly closed. Clearly their season has not yet started.

At the Hotel we upgraded to a Superior room as we wanted a bath as opposed to a shower. The room was well furnished although the circular bed looked good is was not comfortable. The rooms were spotless and all the staff we found to be very friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was varied and good. As we were on half board dinner was inluded, however it was less enjoyable - the meat and fish dishes were at worst cold at best warm. If they were hot I believe they would have be good.

We ate out 3 of the 7 nights to compare the Hotel food with local food. On the whole it was similar although we had a disastrous meal at the White Horse Hotel. [will write separate review on that]

The local walks and scenery is lovely and despite my comments on dinner we would go back.
