Stayed at the Furian with my friend Sally during the first week of February. We are non-skiers but love the snow and were hoping to do snow-related activities, such as sleigh rides and tobogganing and maybe even ice-skating on the frozen lake. Sadly not, as any snow in St Wolfgang was rapidly thawing, crocuses were blooming and two bikini-clad girls were actually swimming in the lake! We couldn't even go on boat trips or the cog railway as these had ceased operating over winter. As a result, we seemed to find ourselves in an awful lot of konditorei and mountain huts, consoling ourselves with rum-laced hot chocolate and fantastic cakes! All for research, you understand ... Despite the lack of snow, we had a great time: we pottered about, visited nearby Bad Ischl (pretty), St Gilgen (up the mountain by cable car - gorgeous panoramic views, café with tasty dumplings) and Salzburg (lovely city). I would say that St. Wolfgang is more a summer resort and would love to visit then: in winter, many shops and some cafes and hotels are closed, giving the village a slightly deserted air; most evenings we went for a stroll after dinner and didn't see a single soul. Our rep, Lizzy, was a lovely, enthusiastic, cheerful girl and the hotel was near-faultless (as others have mentioned before, it would have been nice to have a lounge area to flop about in) and probably the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Spotlessly clean, lovely decor (same pic as mine above the bed - such taste!), cheerful, friendly and helpful owners and staff. Food was tasty and varied. Highly recommend this hotel and would love to stay there again - but next time in summer!

we stayed at the Furian Hotel last week to celebrate my wife's birthday and we were not disappointed the whole package thru Thompson/Crystal Ski was excellent with our rep Lizzy a breath of fresh air and so helpfully it made our holiday, the hotel was very clean the bedrooms were large and very comfortable and the welcome and service given by the owners and staff was second to none, the food was very good and the hotel was prepared to change the menu if required ,the lack of a cosy Austrian lounge was a disappointment ,and certain attractions were not open due to out of season, this does seem to be a summer resort but in saying that we saw plenty of snow and would advise anybody to go to St Wolfgang

Room Tip: higher rooms for better view of lake

My wife and I went to St Wolfgang for a ski/walking holiday. There is usually snow in the village at this time of year, but not this time. The Furian is a 4 star hotel and is well appointed. We had a lovely en-suite room with a view of the lake and the mountains which were snow capped. The food was good and varied with choices on each course. There was also different dishes for people with special diets. The hotel staff were very friendly and English was spoken throughout by the main staff. Be aware that tea or coffee with your evening meal is charged as an extra. The skiing is an hours bus ride away with a pick-up outside the hotel (no charge).

Room Tip: Room 22 has a view of the lake. Room 23 is a single and also has a view of the lake.

Our stay at the Furian was excellent and we were made very welcome by the owners and the staff. The hotel is only a 2/3 minute walk down to town and is conveniently located for all activities and only 200m from the lake. The food at the hotel was excellent and varied both for breakfast and evening meals.
We stayed at the Furian on a winter holiday booked through Crystal ski and our only slight negative is that we would have appreciated a lounge area (can't sit out on balcony in winter), however in better weather there is a large patio which will be ideal for relaxing on.

Room Tip: Best rooms have a partial lake view with balcony.

This is a really lovely and well run hotel. We had a suite on the top floor which was outstanding in every way. We were on half board and the breakfast and dinner were very good, although a little more choice at dinner would have been welcome. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful but perhaps a little too quick at times to clear away our dishes. This is not a lakeside hotel but they do have a lakeside area about 10 mins walk away. We were there out of season so it was closed although we did sit there on a couple of occasions and it was very pleasant. No WC there, though, so may be a problem for those with young children. The location and surrounding areas are wonderful and we enjoyed our stay there very much in spite of the poor weather. There's not much going on in the town in the evening but that is probably because we were there at the end of the season.

Room Tip: The suites are excellent and worth the extra money
