My husband and I recently got away for an evening to Augusta. We were excited to find this b&b with such great reviews! It is so unique - you have to go! The owners (Christina and Allen) were wonderful hosts. Breakfast was delicious! And the house itself has so much character. We ate dinner at Chandler Hill Winery and treated ourselves to massages at Halcyon Spa before heading out (highly recommend!). All to say, the location is perfect. Overall our stay was wonderful. My only complaint was that the carpet in our room wasn't vacuumed. It made me a little uneasy, so I kept my shoes on the whole time. I'm assuming it just got overlooked but it would have made the b&b a notch nicer of an experience in my book if the floors were cleaned. Thank you for a wonderful stay - we hope to come visit again soon! --Kate & Sam

My wife and recently spent a Sunday evening here. We were met by Leigh and given a tour of the property. First thing you should know is there is a lot of stuff, trinkets, etc. Kind of what you think of when you think B&B. We found it fun and interesting with some great history. We stayed in the Turet suite which was more than enough space for us. Hosts provided evening snacks and light alcoholic punch. We spent this time chatting with another very nice couple. Alan also brought out some fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies which were delicious. We spent some time relaxing by the pool as well. Outside is like the inside, there is a lot going on. Beds were comfy and the home cozy. Alan prepared breakfast which was fantastic. Wish I could say more about his culinary skills but you ll have to trust me. The last reviewer questioned the cleanliness, I didn't feel it was so much dirty as it was in need of updating including the shower and the carpet in our room. Alan and Leigh love their property and it shows. They were welcoming and accommodating. If you are looking for five star luxury or day spa this may not be the place for you. If you are looking for a good old fashioned B & B check this place out. If we ever make it back down we would not hesitate to stay here again.

My husband and I have traveled to Augusta a few times for our anniversary. Our hosts were wonderful, with excellent food/beverage! Breakfast was a delight, and the afternoon cocktail was lovely. The evening appetizers were nothing inventive, so I would not suggest making a special trip back in time for this. I couldn't wait to leave, however, simply because of how dirty the place was. We never took our shoes off in the room. There was so much dust on the floors, ceiling fan, and air vents, it was shocking. We have stayed at much cleaner B&B's. The outdoor hot tub water was also so filthy we changed our mind and decided not to get in. The owners may be spread a bit too thin, and focused on gardens vs cleaning. Great location in Augusta.

We stayed for one night on May 30th. The home itself is a unique collection of antiques that cover every inch of the inside. There is literally stuff to look at everywhere. We appreciated the hot tub, and had the weather been warmer the pool would have been a nice addition as well. The room we stayed in (original master bedroom) was a good size but not en suite. There are several shared bathrooms in the home and robes to use. The innkeepers are friendly and welcoming. There are appetizers as well as evening drinks served, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. We have stayed in many bed and breakfasts over the years, but my husband and I agreed that the food served here was far beyond what we usually experience. We enjoyed our short stay-it was a great get away.

Room Tip: As is stated on the website, the room that we stayed in was bright in the morning.

My wife and I visit the H.S. Clay house every year for our anniversary. In addition to the beautiful home and superb service this year we were greeted by a 12 foot tall pumpkin in the front yard created by local artisans out of loose branches. There was a contained fire pit (safety first!) inside with cushy lawn furniture inside to enjoy the night in a unique location. Fun.

How fortunate we are that a chance Internet selection evolved into our most exquisite touring adventure ever. Impeccable attention to detail coupled with Five Star hospitality. The truly gourmet breakfast is divine (and the Eggs Benedict are perfect). Thank you, Alan and Leigh, for creating such a unique and special experience for others to share. We will return often and highly recommend The H S Clay House to discriminating travelers.
Warm regards,
Ron and Pandora

The H.S. Clay house is a truly special experience, in every detail. We even got some decorating hints for holidays and special dinners. We stayed in the Turret Suite - big, beautiful, and a feast for the eyes in every respect. We enjoyed the private balcony and the hospitality of our great hosts, Alan and Leigh. The breakfasts were exceptional, and, we are so impressed by Alan's culinary skills and the overall experience, that we will return with friends in February and enjoy dinner as well as breakfast.

Room Tip: The three bedrooms upstairs have a shared bathroom. Only the Turret suite has a private bath - it m...
