If you are in the area, this is a must see. I was shocked by the fact that there was water, and aquifers, in such a dry place. Overall, it was just an amazing experience.

I found this place with much research because I love photographing birds. There are two i am still on the search for and one of them lives here: the roadrunner. We knew to go in the evening when the roadrunner would be out. We visited after a long day at death valley on our way back to vegas where we were staying. The refuge was empty with just the staff at the center, so we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The staff at the center were super friendly and gave advice as to where the best sightings would occur but also encouraged us to check out the pup fish. The boardwalks are very well maintained and we certainly had a great time. Took so many photos here. HUGE jackrabbits were everywhere, ducks, quall, and more. The mighty roadrunner was not seen that evening, but we had a wonderful time all the time. The sunset over the mountians were gorgeous. If we ever make it back to Nevada, we well certainly stop by here again.

Have visited many times. Just terrific. Visitor's centre is helpful and boardwalks are really well presented. So unexpected in the desert. Highly recommend the swimming at Crystal Lake (swinming only allowed at this place in reserve)

Small visitor center with a boardwalk to some of the cool springs that pop up in the valley. Good for birders. You can also visit the cabin of one of the early settlers, Jack Longstreet, who was a real character! Recommended!
