“Old Run Down Motel”
Reviewed 6 August 2010

To call this place a "resort" is an overstatement. It is a motel and has some cabins. We stayed one night and that was enough! The motel room was very musty smelling which we noticed as soon as we opened the door. They took the knobs off the air conditioning so that the temperature could not be adjusted. The decor could use updating as the furniture was very old, the lamp shades very dusty, and the bed very uncomfortable. The bath tub drain was very slow and had to stand in water up over my ankles when showering. It took the tub 20 minutes to drain so the next person could shower.
It's such a shame that the property did not live up to it's name. It is right on the lake with beautiful views. If the owners would only put in a little more work in the rooms, it would make such a difference.

Years ago, Sandy Point had a good reputation, we were in the area and needed a room for one night. We checked in and were surprised that it was so high (around 169 per night) but we figured it would be worth it since it's such a great location. We opened the door to the room and first of all it looked like a scene from an old movie. It looked tidy but it was dirty. I pulled down the covers and the blanket between the sheet and bedspread has little balls of dirt, it was so disgusting. We immediately checked out. I will say that the young woman at the desk did not even flinch when we wanted to check out, I think she's used to it. The woman behind me said "I'm so glad you said something because that's exactly what we are doing, its really dirty here" So sorry Sandy Point, I only hope you take this as constructive critisim, you have such a gem of a property, as they say, you have to spend money to make money.

We love Sandy Point...the family that runs the place is very nice...the location and views are spectacular....kids love it. We are from Rhode Island and we have been going the week of the 4th of July for over 40 years...its camping...but without any tents...the cabins and rooms are old fashion but clean and cozy

Absolutely horrible…those words are not strong enough to describe Sandy Point Beach Resort in Alton Bay, NH. It is probably THE worst place I’ve ever stayed at in my life. First of all, this place is no resort by any means. It’s a motel with cabins on the property. A group of us rented quite a few motel rooms and one so called “apartment”. What a dump! We would not have stayed there had we known how bad it was, but we searched Trip Advisor for a review and couldn’t find anything. There are no other motel/hotels on that side of Lake Winnipesaukee.

My first impression was that I was in some time warp from the 1950’s (not a good one either). Our rooms looked like they should have been in some low budget horror flick. Scary!!! The furnishings were something you’d buy at a yard sale. The place was old, musty, dusty (cob webs) and downright gross! God forbid if it were hot because you could not use the A/C as the window curtain blocked it – of course you could use the AC if you kept the curtain open and if you don’t mind people passing by your room, staring at you in bed. The door to our room was made up of a piece of smoked thin plexi-glass and if you tapped too hard – it would easily break. The toilet was broken in one of the rooms and apparently the hotel owners may have thought “just stick your hand in the tank and pull the lever… it flushes!” The bathroom soap holder was made out of aluminum foil (I’m not kidding) and good luck if you got a room where the door actually locked.

The highlight of our stay was the ever-lingering smell of SKUNK! We peered over the edge of the rail outside our room to see a huge metal cage with a cooked lobster inside for bait. The bottom line is that no matter how good of a price you’re getting, there are some places not worth staying at.

The only positive thing I could say is that after the initial shock of how awful the room was, the first thing we did was check the mattress for bed bugs and thankfully the bedding was clean and we did have clean towels.
