Nautical Inn
Reviewed 5 January 2013

The Nautical Inn is a homey, casual, friendly place from which to launch your exploration of Placencia and surrounding areas. It has a gem of a pool and is just a few feet from the beach. Our rooms were spacious and so comfortable--not elegant but just exactly the kind of place that helps you feel at home. We were able to stock up on food and make our own cup of coffee every morning, and have our breakfast on our beautiful ocean-side porch; or we could join the other guests for coffee and breakfast in the casual dining room. The staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly, and went out of their way to insure that guests got everything they needed, from tour reservations to laundry to snacks and drinks. The Inn is in Seine Bight, right alongside one of the most fascinating cultures in Belize, and for us that added to the interest. you won't feel shut away behind a tourist wall; you'll feel part of the vibrant and complex culture of Belize and of Placencia. It is a little bit of paradise but not in that "all inclusive resort" sense--you feel a part of the life around you. Nautical Inn is a very special place!

Recently stayed there because of the great price! Found out it was a really friendly place, from the owners to the workers, they are all really caring and helpful with every travelers needs. It also has a nice swiming pool and is located right on the beach. Also free bikes and swiming equipment are free for use. Food is the only cons, you should consider dinning out at the village.

Sharon our normal cook had surgery, a few weeks ago and was not available to work for this busy season. I trust that on your next visit we will be much improved.

Just came back after a two week vacation on the Placencia peninsula. Stayed at the Nautical Inn for one week, and the place is located right on the seafront. It has a great setting and the owners are great. They will go far to accomodate your needs. That said, if your going solo, as I was, it is not the place to stay. They base their operation on larger groups, and in those periods they serve meals. If you get there at any other time you'll have to either bicycle into Placencia, which is about 5-6 miles away, drive yourself, or take a cab which will cost you US$ 20 one way. The alternatives in Seine Bight aren't many.
As far as the rooms go,I can only speak for my own which was a small one with no space to put your clothes. It was so small that you had to leave everything in your suitcase. If you stay in on of the apartments, I'm sure they look much better.
I could spend most of the day sitting by the seafront right outside the reception, so if you're looking for a quiet an secluded place, and don't mind going through the trouble getting your meals, this is a beautiful setting to relax.

Had a wonderful experience at the Nautical. The place is so quite and serene. The sun rises and sun sets are breathtaking. Sitting on the dock watching time waste awat makes you wonder if the world is flat - it just goes on and on forever! Great hospitality by everyone. They made us feel like we were part of the family. Rooms were comfortable and spacious. We feel it was great value. Even though we had a kitchenette we let the staff prepare for us a delicious breakfast most days before leaving on our side trips.

Room Tip: If rooms with next to the sea are available it is only 15 steps to the clear water and white beach.

I stayed at the nautical inn at the end of September. The hotel look nice but the rooms looked like nobody had been in them in a couple of months it should have been a red flag but I had just drove from Belize city and they had a 50% off sign out sides I said what the hay I'll do it . After checking in and a little mix up there with the price we made it to our room. First the a/c units didn't work and the help left for the day so we had to track down the owners which live on site. He came and tried to get them working and couldn't so we had to change rooms. Then we went to the next room and same problem but this time he got the AC to work so owner left . Then I tried to take a shower no hot water what a hassle after traveling all day. The next morning the owner got the water working but it was just a lot of headache considering I paid 100$ u.s for the room. The up side was the hotel was right on the water and I do mean directly on the water.

A group from my school, Baptist College of Health Sciences, stayed for 7 days for a medical mission trip. The resort owners were so welcoming, and so humble. During our stay we had some of the most amazing food. We were able to have a day off from our mission work to have some fun in the sun and they had snorkel gear there that we used to have some under water adventures. The resort is located very close to the towns people and the grocery store is about a 10min walk. You get a chance to see the culture and taste the food. If I had a chance to go back I sure would!!! It's a great place to come back to after a hards day of work on the mission field.

Our family of five stayed in their family suite and had a wonderful time. The living room and kitchenette made us feel like we were living large and at night (or any time we needed a quiet moment) we could close the pocket doors into the restroom and get some peace.
Our kids had a wonderful time exploring the courtyard and playing in the pool--even sending off banana palm leaves into the surf, all without my husband or I having to worry that they would range out of sight. The homey atmosphere and the gracious helpfulness of everyone ranked this hotel at the top of our list. If we had wanted to, we could have walked to the nearest restaurant or ridden bicycles into Placencia, but we had a rental car. (Highly suggest taking the water taxi into Placencia and renting something there rather than driving the turnoff to Placencia until the road construction is finished.)
Roger is great, but Gail is an angel in disguise! My neck had gone out and Gail helped arrange for the local Thai masseuse to come to the room to work on my back, and she took the time to visit with my kiddoes and even do crafts with them.
We plan on moving to a different area of Belize, but Gail and Roger's resort will still be our number one vacation pick.
