“Reasonable hotel - but poor housekeeping and watch the bugs”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

Had to switch to this hotel last minute, we were booking into one of their "Best Rooms", but the rooms were rather dated and needed some proper maintenance.

Room looks nice in photos, but is rather dated. Shower heads seem to spray water everywhere and some power points (wall sockets) loose of seem to be partially falling out of wall.

One morning after returning from Game drive at 10am room still had not been cleaned, so we asked if they could do so ASAP so we could have a brief nap. After multiple calls, someone eventually turned up at 12:30.

One evening there were a few bugs/beetles in the room and I ended up getting bitten on corner of the eye. The next evening on coming back from afternoon boat trip, there were 1000s of beetles outside the room and they were getting into the room around the edge of the door, screens. We rang housekeeping before going to dinner as we say them spraying outside some other rooms. On returning to the room over an hour later, the room was infested with bugs over the walls, bed - it was appalling. While my partner was using towel to try to remove some bugs, eventually housekeeping turned up with a broom and swept some of them out of the room - but did not have any spray. Needless to say we were thankful that was our last night.

Food is reasonable for a big establishment, but make sure you are not back late from your morning game drive otherwise you will miss out on any breakfast.

After six days being totally spoilt glamping in the bush - we loved our relaxing stay at the Lodge, Everything was very pleasant - and the Chobe river and surrounding area fantastic. Our private evening river cruise was great!

The family rooms at this lodge are great, the food is good, the views from the deck are great. One of the better places to stay over in Botswana. Absolutely worth it to go on a sunset cruise from the jetty at the lodge. You will be on the river with about 10 other boats, but you will get within meters of elephants, hippos, etc. Try to go on one of the small 15 seater boats, rather than the big double deck boats. You see a lot more and get closer to the animals. The dinner cruise is not that great as the boat only goes about 500 meters from the jetty. It is not really a cruise and the food gets cold quickly, in my view it is much better to eat at the main restaurant. Better food and a much wider variety to choose from. There is a nice Spar in town, also a Pizza place and a KFC. The drive into Chobe is also great with abundant game. You can easily drive to Victoria falls for the day. The border is not busy and about 1hour from the lodge. Just make sure you have the red stickers on the back and the white stickers on the front bumper, ZA sticker, yellow reflective jackets, fire extinguisher and the car papers. And be ready to pay a fine. When we went the police were right at the falls under a tree stopping all foreign cars. We stopped in town and thus avoided the police. Vic falls take rands and credit cards. The curio shops all take rands. At the falls make sure you start at view point #1, lots of people miss the Livingstone statue and the steps down into the falls.

We stayed for 1 night on our way through Kasane and were very impressed by the friendliness of the staff, the great food, a wonderful sunset river cruise and comfortable rooms. The only disappointment were the bathrooms which could do with a makeover - we had a shower in a bath which caused the water to go everywhere! Otherwise, the place is great - we would definitely return!

Our group of 12 plus two guides stayed here and were very impressed with the standard. The rooms were large and well appointed. The grounds very well maintained and the outdoor patio overlooking the Chobe river was excellent. Food was good with quite a variety. Monkeys and warthogs roamed freely and added to the ambience.

Room Tip: Our room had a balcony overlooking the large lawn and gardens.

Chobe Safari Park is, in a word, massive. The Chobe river runs through the national park and on the banks of the river you find the Chobe Safari Lodge. With activities running throughout the day you are rarely left with anything to do.

The activities include jeep safaris and safaris by boat. Both are very interesting and run three times a day from 6am-6pm.

The food is also of very high standard. With a low number of guests at the hotel the breakfast are buffet but the evening meals included a bbq and on other occasions food being prepared to your fancy, right in front of you and that was for every diner.

You will only need to stay at this lodge for a short amount of time as, when you've seen 'the big four' (minus the rhino, which is no longer in the park) it can get repetitive.

The Guides are all very polite and informative.

Thumbs up.

Room Tip: There aren't many rooms. All looked great and had good balcony views.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in July and were delighted with the reception we received, the quality of the room and food and the overall ambience of the resort. It was a 5 min drive into Chobe Park to se the animals, and they and another hotel do have a monopoly of the market, hence the high prices etc. You do however get what you pay for and this was top notch! I imagine if you stayed longer, your account would be a good bit lower but this was a once in a lifetime safari experience so go for it!! Entrance to the park was only £10 per person so that was good value. Plenty of animals to see and right up,close.
