“A great boutique option in Siem Reap”
Reviewed 2 August 2013

Spent one month in this nice boutique hotel while working for our NGO. Its well situated on Wat Bo Rd - 10 min walk to the Market and Pub st district, and holds similar sustainability beliefs to us in that the local employees have a stake in the business.

The rooms are well set out and clean, AC excellent, the staff friendly and helpful (able to organise reliable drivers or tours) and the facilities are good enough - lovely rooftop bar and nice common areas.

The pool is small, simple but effective for a plunge and cool-off, but its not for those seeking a 5 star experience.

The Fusion restaurant was reliable, economic and varied enough to get us through the month, with breakfast "tweaked" daily, and lots of dinner specials such as happy hours, 1/2 price nights and $1 tapas night.

Importantly - as I was working for much of the stay - the wi-fi was as good as you can expect in Cambodia, i.e. mostly OK. They do have their own power generator which kicks in quite quickly if the local grid goes down.

Cost wise its reasonable, though if you had the time and inclination to walk up and down the streets of Siem Reap inspecting other hotels and doing a cost comparison, you could find cheaper, but when you weigh it all up - location, reliability, and service, I think if I return in the future I'm likely to just return to Soria Moria,

We arrived at the hotel on the night of my husband's 60th Birthday where we had arranged to meet up with a friend. Imagine our surprise when upon entering our room we were greeted with a rendition of "Happy Birthday" by several members of staff. Our friend had arranged a cake and the staff had done the rest including a complimentary upgrade to a larger room. What a great start to our stay! I must say the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. We were made to feel like part of a large happy family. Kudos to the owners for the whole concept of the hotel.
We got a very good rate by booking in advance directly on the hotel's web-site and were not disappointed, the hotel is a little gem, from its roof-top bar, where I was served a surprisingly tasty margarita, to it's cute little pool and the lobby selling products made by locals. It is very clean and well maintained and in a good location too, nice and quiet at night. The staff at reception were able to arrange cab and tuk tuk rides for us and answer all our questions, their English is good and their manner polite and respectful.
The breakfast buffet was included in the price of the room and featured a chef making eggs to order.
My husband will never forget his 60th Birthday thanks to the staff at this wonderful hotel. We look forward to our next visit!

I want to review/comment on two things here.

First: Soria Moria. Quiet, clean, comfortable, and well kept. This is an excellent and affordable small hotel for staying in Siem Reap. Breakfast is varied and tasty. Front desk staff have excellent English and anticipate most needs. We would have no hesitation in staying again.

Second: tuk-tuk driver Mr Sam Rach. (I believe you phonetically pronounce his name "Sam Rite". He is well known to Soria Moria - for good reasons. He's polite, punctual, an excellent driver, has excellent English; Sam Rach is a young family man that you can hire as a driver for a half day or full day. He knows the temples well, and the process of getting there really well, and can advise you on timings to various points of interest. You can ask for him at the Soria Moria front desk or SMS him direct on 855 12 84 89 06.

The combination of hotel plus driver was fantastic.

Great for a budget hotel. Clean, comfortable, good location. Staff is excellent! Owners & managers have their hearts & practices in the right place, i.e., developing skills in their staff while providing excellent service. Fun events at night draw a nice crowd.

Very friendly staff who will help with almost everything and with a wonderful idea behind the hotel. Lots of extra super deals happy hour and so. Good location close to everything but still calm. I ended up staying almost a month. Nice rooftop bar.

The friendly staff, the warm and welcoming feeling and all the good this hotel does for people in need, sustainable tourism, the local economy and the environment makes me want to move in and stay forever! They also have great deals on food and drinks five days a week, like One Dollar Night on Wednesdays (everything costs 1 USD) and Ladies' Night on Tuesdays.
I loved it last year, and now it was even better, with a small pool and an egg station at breakfast.
I will be back next year!

It's hard to say that Soria Moria is bad in any way. It isn't - the Superior room was on special deal and very spacious and welcoming after a long minibus ride from Kratie. Everything was clean and comfortable and perfect working order.

But in a competitive place like Siem Reap, it didn't really stand out to us after trying a few other places over the course of our stay. It would appeal to families or more bland travelers but definitely not to people looking for a bit of personality in their hotels. The pool was also disappointingly tiny, and the staff were helpful but not as genuine and friendly as the other places we stayed in. Breakfast buffet had mostly Western style options.
