“Elephant statues”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

Similar in structure to Pre Rup, East Mebon has elephant statues at all the corners. Originally constructed on an island in the middle of the now dry Eastern Barray, it rises 3 levels and has five towers. Nice view from the top of surrounding countryside.

“A lovely temple, with stunning elephant figures”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

This is a beautiful temple, well preserved and seemingly little visited, fair in the middle of the Eastern Baray. Built by Rajendravarman II in honour of his parents, apparently, it seems to have an unusual architectural grace. Sometimes called Oriental Mebon, there's a lot to see all round the site and the elephants with their decorative harnesses and trappings, in particular, are quite stunning. Some are in a remarkably well preserved condition. There's a little commercial centre just outside the gate, which had some particularly welcome icy beers when we were there!

“One of the best preserved temples”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

This is one of the temples that were still quite well preserved and elephant sculptures were the main highlights. Temple is smaller than those we saw earlier but still well-kept.

“Elephant temple”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

Set on many different levels, this is a great site to explore.

Lions flanks the doors and I loved the elephant statues in each corner. So angry to see some idiots climb on the elephants for photos. It won't be long before they fence these off to keep them preserved.

A few steps between levels but manageable for kids and fu. To explore each level.
