My middle aged friend and I booked for 8 nights at Ree Hotel in two double rooms. We got one double and one twin. Both reeked of old smoke, stains on the old carpet in the room and throughout the hotel. Semi clean walls, built in mould around the silicone in the bath. It's basically a very old hotel, trying to be new. The pool area looked new, although unlike most other pools in Seim Reap was not salt water and was for some reason freezing. It also was not clean, green slim was on the lower walls and no trace of chlorine was used. The breakfast was very average, some variety of breads, minimal fruit, watered down juices, asian food, one person on the omelet or fried egg station. You also had to eat by 930am each morning. We complained about our rooms after one night and were upgraded to individual suites which were very spacious, although the shower still was blocked and water never flowed properly. Housekeeping only replaced the bottled water, pulled up the sheets (not changed them) and folded the one roll of toilet paper and tissues, the toilet was not cleaned regularly and I could write 'clean me' on a panel that was collecting dust during the 8 nights. The room service menu had a minimal selection which was overpriced compared to the towns restaurants. I had housekeeping cleaning the room above at 1145 one night and had to complain twice. Housekeeping starts making hallway noise by 630-7am The balcony provided is about 1m x 2m and in some rooms had not chairs or tables. You need to use a tuktuk to get into town which will cost you about 3usd each way. It is walkable which takes about 30mins at a leisurely pace. Both bookit.com and booking.com have photos of Ree Hotel which make it look new and clean, which it is not. It is definitely not a 4 or 4.5 star hotel. If you want a central location within walking distance of all conveniences I'd go with The Prince d angkor - which is definitely a 4 + star hotel. Basically Ree hotel is not cheap and just nasty. I travel all around Asia at least 3 times a year and this property is just tacky with flashing lights in the lobby and advertising of their facilities on the glass doors. On a brighter note, Seim Reap is amazing, from the temples to floating villages out of town, to the many many cheap and high quality eating facilities, soap-clothing-candle making workshops. Ree would be ok for 1 maybe 2 nights if you were desperate but not any longer.
