“Good service and care taking”
Reviewed 14 January 2010

We arrived for our 4 nights stay at The Kool Hotel after a 5 h minivan ride from PP. I been so unlucky to catch a visious stomach infection so the 5 h transportation didnt do me well. We were greeted warmly by Nat. The Hotel Manager I think? and got a drink and some fruit and a short survey over their tour options and Siem Reap itself. Given we were both tired after the trip we were quickly show to our room. We booked a Indra room with a small balcony. Apperently all Indra rooms doesnt have a balcony. The one we were given didnt have one. After we noticed this we went to the reception and they gave us a new room this time with a balcony. Avoid 102 its not their best Indra room.
We had a good stay here. The reception were always responding well to us had a smile and a greeting whenever we were entering. Asked us how our day had been. We booked a car for 2 days for Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples. The 3rd day we booked a tour to the Tonle Sap lake to see the floating village. All tours were great and the luxury of a aircon car was extremely good. We were able to avoid the dust and the heat while driving between the temples. Remember to bring ear plugs the windows are paperthin and you can hear everything going on outside. The neighbours to the hotel both have dogs and loudplaying music. We did bring earplugs and didnt really consider it a problem. The location wasnt a problem either. Always a Tuk Tuk driver waiting outside or you could just go to the street and hail a moto/tuk tuk. The alley down the hotel was not well lighted but it didnt feel unsafe at all. I mean this was a residential area. All in all very nice very recommedable hotel

It is a small hotel and we were glad because the everything about it was great. The room we had was very big, bed comfy, everything was spotless and the staff so helpful. I had a sore ear when we arrived and they went out of their way to find to help me. You just had to ask for something and it was there. Word of warning, it is 3 stories with no lift, it wasn't a problem for us and we are in our 50's.

For ~$50 USD per night including breakfast it's a good value hotel for sure.

Service wise others have covered it - In general I would say it's ok, not stellar. They push their tours hard which you can get for less elsewhere. But they also provide some nice information about the town in their tour discussion when you check in. If you have pre-booked with one of the guides recommended in the Forum (we used Kim San) they go easy on the sales and just simply provide information which is nice. We happened to have our first room have power outages on and off and they offered to get us into another hotel or change rooms the next day when they were available. They did move our things for us and took care of the shuffle without problem which allowed us to see some of the differences of rooms of the same level. Our first one had a safe, second one didn't. But the second one had remote for the lights (since there is no switch by the bed) and the first one didn't - standardizing your experience might be a good idea over time. We saw them place people in our broken room the same day they moved us out but I don't believe that they have much control over their booking software as when they went to check if there were rooms available he just looked on their internet booking part of their web site.

We had no problems getting a tuk tuk to or from town generally $2 although you can get them to $1.50 if it's worth the hassle for you. Reasonable cost to the airport as well - I believe it was $5 by Tuk Tuk, $7 by car. We walked once along the river into town and it was a nice walk and felt quite safe.

The room was nice enough, bathroom was fine with dispensors for soap and shampoo in the shower/near the sink (again this was slightly different between the rooms). Bed was typical Asia style (hard) but everything was quite clean. Breakfast was ok, although service in the breakfast room was quite slow for the four mornings we were there. Of the breakfast options I'd recommend the eggs your way with hashbrowns and ham or bacon. They didn't understand eggs over medium but more or less got it and repeated it the next day after an explanation.

Internet was 2 machines on the first floor which were often occupied and one of them evidentially was using a pirated version of Windows as it kept stopping to say it needed a real license...might be a good idea to apply a valid software license so your guests don't feel like criminals with that aspect.

Overall experience was quite good especially for the cost.

Thank you for your feedback to let us improve ourselves in the future. We appreciate your suggestions and wish that we would be able to welcome you again.

A couple of points we would like to clarify:

The new guests were not placed into a broken room. The problem of the electricity outage was solved before we placed a new guests into the room. We had also tested the electricity switch to make sure that all went smooth before starting to place guests in. There is no point placing anyone in a broken room if the next morning the same problem persists and we need to move guests to another room again.

We purchased a guest computer with software already installed from a vendor in Siem Reap. Thank you for letting us know your concern about piracy and we will do our best to solve this issue with the vendor.

Our website and reservation software were designed by me and my partner. The reservation system in our website is online real time and is the best way for us to check our current availability. We have a full control over our reservation system.

We wish to install all remote control system in all rooms however, in Cambodia from time to time, if you would like to purchase the same products to replace the out-of-order ones it might take a very long time to wait and some times you could not get a replacement. Therefore, we had no choice but to use switches in some rooms for the time being. Once we get replacement for remote control, we will install in all rooms.

A safe is not standard item for our Apsara rooms however if we have them available we try our best to put them into Apsara guestrooms. If our Apsara guests request a safe, we will put one in their room if available. Central safe deposit box service is also available at our reception.

Before we start to give out information on Siem Reap town, temples and attractions we make sure that we ask our guests if they would like to to do so. If they do not wish us to explain, we will never push any information to our guests unless requested. Prices are also quoted upon the guest request and we do not push or force any guests to purchase any tours from us. Our prices are reasonable comparing to others. However, of cause if one takes our prices to other tour agencies and they are in need of customers, also a hard bargain initiated, the prices may be lower than what we offer or what it should be but the service might not always the same. The sentence 'You get what you pay for' always works anytime.

We were greeted as soon as we stepped out of the car, and led inside this charming hotel to be welcomed by a cool drink and a refreshing iced towel. The staff, who are friendly, informative and helpful, really bent over backwards to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
The hotel is tastefully decorated with dark wood furniture and colorful, silky fabrics. The rooms are clean, stylish and modern.
The poolside is small and cozy, and the restaurant, though somewhat lacking in atmosphere, serves delicious local specialities.

Stayed at the Kool Hotel for three nights. It's a good base for Siem Reap attractions and the temples. The staff were very attentive and helpful throughout our stay. The rooms were basic, but quite clean. The shower, however, was not very good. There was a complimentary breakfast included in the rate which was very nice. Use the tuk tuk drivers outside the hotel to get into the town/hire for the day to go to the temples. You can walk into the town in about 15 minutes, so it's not centrally located, but close enough. The hotel is down a dark alley way which can be a bit daunting at night, especially if you are on your own. Overall, good place to stay if you are on a budget. Otherwise try the Hotel de la Piaz next to pub street.

After much research we decided on the Kool Hotel for our 3 night stay. Wanted a small/boutique hotel with pool, not too far from town centre but far enough away to avoid the noise and traffic. This family run "khmer style" hotel is down a small side street, blink and you'd miss the turning! Our airport /hotel transfer was waiting for us, friendly guy with good English. After a short ride to the hotel we were greeted warmly by the owner and Receptionist. Over a "welcome drink" they discussed our requirements for visiting the temples over the next two days, with guide and transport, which they arranged for us through their own travel desk.
They gave us the run down on "Pub Street" , best places for shopping, the differences between the markets. Told us about tuk-tuk fares etc, showed us the pool, restaurant ,computer area and then our room.We had booked a deluxe room, which was large, had a very small balcony and large bathroom with good plumbing/hot water.
Breakfasts were very good and their "fish or chicken amok" , which we had for lunch one day is to die for.The gardens are well maintained, the pool is lovely with ample beds and umbrellas. You can order food/drinks to be served around the pool. There were always a few tuk-tuks outside of the hotel for the trip to town - too far to walk and the hotel didn't recommend it. Cost was 2 USD each way. Our drivers were happy to pick us up in town at a pre-arranged time/place for our return trip. The locals are so friendly, they appreciate the tourists and will go out of their way for you. They badly need tourism and hopefully this will increase over time.
I hurt my knee on the first day of temple touring. When our guide picked us up on the 2nd morning he was very concerned whether I should go to the temples that day. He gave me an elastic bandage to wear and at each temple would find me a comfortable place to sit. for short periods. My husband did the tour and took the photos. He was very kind and caring as was our driver. When I returned to the hotel with a very swollen knee the hotel owner was very concerned, gave me bags of ice and advised I go into the pool and to rest. They could not do enough to make me comfortable.
We loved our trip to Siem Reap expecially the temples. The people are amazingly friendly and hospitable.Would definitely stay here again if we returned to SR and would recommend the Kool Hotel for those wanting a small hotel with excellent service, great facilities and value for money.

I was suggested by my friend who visited this Kool (Cool) hotel before. So it's very easy for my boyfriend and me to decide where to stay during our vacation. Never regret but it was just amazing and over our expectations. Once we arrived the airport, without waiting, we were picked up by the hotel driver. And at the hotel, we got welcome drinks and I would say all the staffs here are very polite, friendly and ready to help.

Let's talk about the room...it was very clean, spacious and stylish. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was quite big and clean also. We also had breakfast at the hotel and it was great with variety choices. The swimming pool was clean and nice so we chose to spent an hour to enjoy it. Besides, we also took a tour recommended by the hotel staff. We had such a great time and the tour guide was very knowledgeable.

in conclusion, I would highly recommended the Kool hotel as the first choice to stay if you come to Siem Reap. Very nice hotel and great staffs! Thanks to the Kool hotel to make our journey so wonderful and unforgettable. Well done!
