“Small details made for an excellent stay”
Reviewed 29 December 2013

My partner and I stayed for two nights (26th and 27th December) in a double room. The room was simple but comfortable and came with an en suite. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff and a fruit smoothie each, a great refreshment following our 6 hour bus trip. After venturing out for the day we returned to find a small complementary fruit platter and bottled water in our room. Another nice touch. The room also came with cable tv and air conditioning, although we didnt use these features.
Breakfast was included in the price of the rooms, although food options were limited to egg, bread, hot noodles or a combination of the above. When we checked out we were given a Cambodian scarf each as a departure gift. This small detail really topped off what was an excellent two day stay. We can see why this family run guesthouse recieved a 2013 TripAdvisor award. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: If you can, opt for a room not connected to the main downstairs foyer.

For $10 a twin room with fan, no hot water, breakfast.
Take a large tour of the temple for $14, then ask the tuk-tuk driver to take you to bentey sray for $7. Great trip cheap!
They arrange bike rental (small tour) for $4/pax but you can find $1/pax I the city.
They went the extra miles by offering us shower even though we had checked out!

I have been to Siem Reap a couple of times and stayed in a few other guest houses, but Ta Som is by far the best in terms of cleanliness and service. I was not feeling well when i checked in with my group of friends, and we were informed that it was too early to check in. My friends left for a city tour while i stayed behind to rest on the couch in the hotel lobby. However the receptionist - Ken, he was extremely concerned, and provided hot water along with a temporary room for me to rest in, no extra charges or anything required. From that day, he constantly asked after me every time i managed to see him. I have never had this kind of excellent service at anywhere in Siem Reap.
Another staff which managed to make my entire trip was one of the hotel employed Tuk Tuk Drivers - Mr Vang. He is the most sincere and honest and down to earth man i have ever had the pleasure to meet in Siem Reap. He is the most reliable Tuk Tuk Driver as well. My friends and i have been conned by many tuk tuk drivers out there who increase prices once you have reached your destination, or have hidden costs they force you to pay. Mr Vang is entirely different. He settled (without bargaining) on an extremely reasonable price of 13 dollars for a small tour of angkor wat (i went to Ta Phrom, and two other minor temples, skipping the large ones). He promised us that there would be no additional costs and he said his services extended till 5 pm. My friends had a similar itinerary and hired a tuk tuk driver from the street - they were charged 15 dollars and their services lasted till only 1pm. I contrasted my friend's experience trying to haggle with a tuk tuk driver on the street and Mr Vang, and i can safely say that i trusted Mr Vang almost immediately. Although Mr Vang's command of English is not the best there is, it is evident that he tries his best to understand you and provide the best service that he can. Such is seen in the minor details such as him providing ice cold water in a cooler box for his passengers. Later when i spoke to him, I found out that these bottles of water were paid for by money from his own pocket, and it make up quite a huge proportion of his small income. He is always available when you need him, arranging breakfast for us when we were exploring Ta Phrom in the morning and he will always be waiting for you patiently when you finish touring a temple. Upon finding out that we had been charged a little more by the restaurant we went to, he was extremely upset on our behalf and even offered to turn back (when we were far away) to speak with the restaurant owner. He constantly advised us on the most reasonable prices for every attraction, and tries his best to make sure that we are not cheated out of our money and charged unreasonably. While Mr Vang's command of english is not the best, and may seem quiet sometimes, I can really tell he puts in the effort. I suppose his initial reservedness may be because he was afraid we would not be able to understand him and that would compromise on his service, but once i reached out to him, he opened up immediately. It is also extremely heartwarming to hear of how he learnt english in three months without any schooling. Needless to say, we became friends, and I highly recommend Mr Vang's services to anyone who wants to get around Siem Reap. He is really the best person I have met in cambodia and characterises the resilience of Cambodian people, and their impeccable hospitality as well. At the end of the trip, I gave Mr Vang a huge tip - it came out of my own shopping money, because i figured his ambition of being able to afford his own tuk tuk was much more meaningful than aquiring a few more souvinirs. Overall, an excellent day was spent with Mr Vang at the wheel, and Ta Som would be my go to place for all my future trips to Siem Reap.

Room Tip: Try to get the triple rooms - they are much more spacious and comfortable than the double rooms. It...

Although we'd booked through agoda they did not seem to be expecting us, though this happened a few times during our trip to Cambodia and laos. Given a choice of a room right next to reception or one on top floor. Disadvantage of being on top floor is there is no sitting on balcony area as there are on the other floors. Really clean comfortable room with effective ac and shower though not always with hot water. Good breakfast. Really helpful owner and staff who organised 2 good days to the temples. Bit out of the way for the night markets but some not bad restaurants nearby. All in all not a bad place to stay.

Ta Som was one of the best places we stayed in SeA, not because it's luxurious or anything, but because the staff were excellent and it had everything we needed. We initially arrived early in the morning at the airport and they picked us up for free. They gave us a room on arrival, and a fruit shake, then later in the day once cleaning was finished they moved us to another, much nicer room. They had good value services for transport around Angkor, as well as to other cities, and they didn't overcharge like so many other guesthouses do.

Stayed there for 3 nights. Got free airport transfer to the Guest House. Front desk staffs are able to communicate in English and helpful. Breakfast is simple and nice. Worth of the money that you pay for the stay! Highly recommended~

We stayed there for 6 nights and changed our room twice because the two fist were in the old part, which was very hot and had poor atmosphere (located at the back of the hotel)

Once in our new room it was very good. People were friendly even if not very professional, especially at the reception.

Breakfast was good.

One last thing: our shower didn't have its own heating device so if I understood well it depended on sun panel. In the morning expect cold water. In the evening, water is OK.

So our personal experience was good but if we would have stayed there only 1 or 2 nights we would have been disappointed (in fact we wanted to leave after our first night and saw another room by chance)

Good value for money
