“The Golden Banana made my visit to Siem Reap unforgettable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2011

I got picked up by Khom at the airport, who ended up being my excellent driver to the temples the following day.

At first, you wouldn't think much of the GB as it is hidden in a small alley surrounded by local shops. The first thing that strikes you is the laid-back and relaxed atmosphere, almost idyllic, with cushy sofas, a pool and swings at the far end. There are some really interesting details in the decor which makes you curious to find out more. The rooms are quite comfy without too much fuss. The balcony is good for lounging and my favourite is the rain shower which is just gorgeous after a tiring day out. I especially like the urns which they fill your bath and shower gels in.

Breakfast was also good. You have 3 choices but they were kind enough to give me 2 options at once. You have not tried coffee until you have had Cambodian coffee.

The resort also has a friendly pet dog called Blackie. While friendly, he likes to bark at about 4 in the morning. If you can sleep through that, good. If not, you can ask the staff to keep him at the back during your stay there.

Of course, free WIFI is always a plus, especially for a solo traveler like me.

As other reviewers had mentioned, the walk back at night could be a little intimidating as the path is not well lit. However, the locals generally leave you alone. I never once felt unsafe walking in the dark. And yes, it is really quite convenient to walk to Pub Street once you get your bearings right (despite it not really looking that close by on the maps I got).

If I could make 1 suggestion, it would be to have a kettle and cups in the room so that we could make hot drinks. But I suppose they figured you can always call room service.

For me, what made the stay truly unforgettable is the staff at the resort. They were really friendly, professional and accommodating all the time. When I checked in, Kinall was kind enough to brief me on the facilities in the resort, and recommended some sights and things to do during my stay in Siem Reap. When I checked out, I left my credit card behind absentmindedly. The manager Sovanna emailed me and rushed to the airport to return my card before my flight departed. It really does go to show the high level of service in this establishment. I cannot wait to return to stay at the Golden Banana again.

Room Tip: Stay at the Tea Room. It's on the 2nd floor. Has a view of the pool yet hidden by just enough fo...

Well located, a few hundred meters away from pub street and all.
Room was large, rather clean, and with a spacious balcony to relax after a day at the temples. Looked pretty good overall. The bath on the balcony with a water feature might be unnecessary though...

Very good value but it might be because we got upgraded.

Some improvement is needed on the room cleaning and change of towels...

As usual, Dirk and company were top notch (my third stay). The location is slightly secluded, across the river (stream, actually) from the center of Siem Reap. This makes for a nice quiet setting. The room was excellent with a wonderful stone tub on the balcony. The breakfast was again delicious. What was particularly nice, this time, was the opportunity to have dinner in the evening on site. The food was on par with what one would find in downtown Siem Reap. The staff was charming and the pool was again refreshing.

We are just back from a 3 week vacation in Cambodia, Vietnam and China. Referred to us by a friend, we stayed for 3 nights at The Golden Banana Resort. It was absolutely perfect. We had a fantastic room right on the side of the pool. It was 2 levels and there was an outdoor roof terrace with a tub and shower. We never used the indoor shower at all - it was the best! The staff was extremely accommodating in every way. We also used an excellent tuk-tuk driver and car service everyday. If you go, you must use Khen Sopheak or his brother Sophal. Contact them @ angkor.temples@yahoo.com. They are super nice and they drive very safe. They will get you every where you want to go - You will love Siem Reap.

We first arrived in Siem Reap in a torrential downpour but were quickly escorted to the hotel by Ran who became our tour guide for the rest of the trip (email: sokharanet@hotmail.com) - definitely recommended for tours and airport pick ups as he was reliable and a wealth of information. Provided us with cold water and helped us avoid the hordes of package tours around the areas in a very comfortable car with air conditioning all for a reasonable price.

The hotel when we got there was a pleasant surprise- very well decorated, cosy and most importantly friendly! we stayed in the villa with the rooftop bath and the sun loungers were lovely after a hard day of temple trudging as was the pool. They provided toiletries as well as bathrobes and slippers which is always nice. The staff were especially helpful with no request being too difficult. The breakfast, although maybe a little slow in arriving, was very good with four a la carte choices with coffee/tea and a very nice fruit salad. We recommend the pancakes/ french toast!

Four of us stayed at the Golden Banana Boutique Resort in August 2011. We loved every minute of it! The staff were lovely and friendly and always happy to help you. There was a very relaxed and chilled vibe to the place and we instantly felt at home. The rooms are lovely and spacious, the furniture has great character and very Cambodian in style. Good ammenities in the room. We loved the breakfasts, rather than a boring buffet, they offered 3 choices (croissants & breads, eggs or pancakes), which they cooked fresh for you. They all came with amazing fresh fruit and yoghurt and the coffee was awesome!!
The location is perfect too, only a couple of minutes walk to the main town area (or $2 in a tuk tuk).

Staff were incredibly helpful at booking private cars/guides or tuk tuks.

We honestly loved this hotel and will recommend it to anyone going to Siem Reap.

We stayed in the Golden Banana Boutique Resort for three nights in late July 2011. It was a fantastic stay. The rooms are huge, on 2 levels. Downstairs is the bedroom & bathroom & upstairs is an open deck area with outdoor chairs, an outdoor bath & shower.
Great location, with a 5 minute walk across the bridge to the old market area & another 5 minutes to Pub Street. If its raining, it's a $1.00 tuk tuk ride to the main area of town.
I cannot speak more highly of the staff. From check in, housekeeping, bar & restaurant staff, all are friendly & helpfull & always up for a chat if you are sitting alone. The owner who you see around the hotel is also great & always says hello as he is going around, looking after things.
Breakfast is included in the price & has a reasonable range of options. It is not a buffet & is not massive but gets ytou through till you get into town the sample the sensational bakeries.
We are going back to Siem Reap next year & will definetley be staying at the Golden Banana again.
