“I will definitely come back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2013

We stayed there 4 days and had a very good time there.

The rooms are clean and spacious. Every room has a terrace with a bath tube outside and a couple of chairs to relax in the evening after visiting the stunning temples of Angkor Wat.

It is very close to the night market and the Pub Street meaning that you can walk there at night to grab a drink and get something to eat.

If you dont feel like going out after a long day, well don't! The food is very good (and the chef is always smiling! Great guy!) in the resort and in line with the city prices so there is no surprise and no overcharge linked to the place.

Service is great, there are some hickups once in a while but nothing major and everything is always dealt with with a nice smile and a lot of calm.
I really have nothing mean to say about the place, only compliments! Works for couples, families and friends.

On the previous comments I read. Yes, the swimming pool is not made for a tri athlete but for a relaxing time after a long day of walking, its perfect!
Also, I have read that some people where complaining about the waterfall sound but to be honest that didn't disturb me at all as it is shut off after 10 pm (or maybe earlier) and doesnt start until late in the morning. I actually felt it gave a very peaceful feel to the place (zen attitude).

Oh one last thing, they can provide the tuck tuck and the guide so dont worry too much about this. For the visit the first day, just make sure you have 40USD per adult to get access to the site.

All in a wonderful experience in the GB, if I come back (which I am planing to for the rainy season), will definitely go there again.

Room Tip: If you're fine with high stairs, ask for a room in the top floors.

We came, as most/many do, to see Angkor Wat. The hotel is a couple of blocks away from the center of town, very walkable to restaurants, shops. The staff is very friendly and helpful. While the stairs are steep, the rooms are well-supplied and many have a balcony with a sitting area; ours overlooked the pool. Breakfast was excellent and abundant. The hotel has a cadre of guides anddrivers if you have not arranged ahead of time for one. Tuk-tuks are plentiful, but walking (but not at noon, very hot!) well get you most places. A driver is necessary to get to Angkor Wat. Electricity stoppages are usually a brief problem, as GB has its own generator, quite powerful. Free wi-fi! I recommend this hotel.

Spent four days at the Golden Banana in October and have nothing bad to say about it at all. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The rooms were beautifully furnished, quiet, comfortable, and clean. The two pools were secluded and relaxing and a great way to revive yourself after a day of temple-hopping. Breakfast was simple and tasty and the restaurant food was delicious and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Loved this place: small, friendly, great breakfast, perfect location. After days absorbing Cambodian history and struggling with the oppressive heat, by 2 pm my mind would start wandering to thoughts of that refreshing pool. Traveling alone, it was great home away from home.
The staff was always smiling, helpful and seemingly genuine. I noticed how democratically they worked together. No matter what help you needed, whoever you asked saw it thru to the end. No passing the buck. Refreshing!
Location couldn't have been better. On opposite side of river from night market, so very quiet. And only took about 5 minute walk.
Glad there was a restaurant on the premises for those days you just don't have the energy to go out. Made my visit to Angkor even more enjoyable!

I started emailing GB questions about a week before my stay - logistics questions about how to get there from the airport, get a SIM card, get money, etc. - and they answered all of my emails very helpfully and promptly. When I arrived, they knew me by name, and the same people followed up with me about additional questions from there. When I left early in the morning to watch the sunrise at Angkor Wat, they prepared a breakfast in advance for me to pick up at 5AM! The only negative thing about my experience was that there was no shampoo in my room, and they did not offer to supply it from anywhere else. But this was so minor in the grand scheme of things - I had an amazing time.

Room Tip: Get a room with shampoo built into the shower, if you care about washing your hair. Ask the bar/rest...

The Golden Banana suited our needs in Siem Reap perfectly. It's just far enough out of the centre of town to have a sense of seclusion, but is a short walk away from Pub Street and the rest. The sense of being insulated from the tumult and heat of Siem Reap and Angkor is one of the key qualities of the "resort". As the afternoon wears on, people gather around the pool after a morning of seeing the sights, relaxing with a book or ipad. A cocktail from the bar may also be to hand. Lovely.

The staff at the resort were uniformally excellent. Always cheerful and willing to help out. They, alongide the resort's fleet of tuk tuk drivers, will meet all of your sightseeing needs and the costs (which are very reasonable) can all be charged for payment when you check out. Very convenient.

Our room was spacious, clean and everything worked. The frequent power cuts in Siem Reap were not a problem as a result of the newly installed generator.

Went for the second time in 2 years.
Were welcomed back by the once again superb staff. They are really what make this place.
Stayed in a lovely deluxe villa - perfectly equipped and with none of the power or water problems described by others here. In fact the manager said they had recently added a waterpump and a generator to prevent similar things happening in the future.
For our stay everything worked perfectly.
The food and drinks and bar service are still just wonderful and I would stay here again for sure.
Why not 5* like I gave last time - It is still the same magical place - but the prices have gone up somewhat, So with that comes increased expectations as well.

Room Tip: Deluxe villa if you want to splurge - otherwise the roomsfacing the pool are also just great .

Dear Nicolai,

It was very nice to see you again at our Resort.
We love to welcome our returning guest and see them becoming in a certain way a member of our GB ‘Family’.
Regarding our prices that slightly went up, this is true, after two full years without increasing our rates, we had to make them a bit higher.
Siem Reap is a beautiful city in full expansion, this offers a lot of benefits for those who visit it; great restaurants, bars, shops, spa’s,... but at the same time the facilities provided by the government can not follow and are not 100% sufficient.
Because of this we decide to invest a lot in backup systems to guarantee Electricity & Water supply, Wi-Fi., etc. at all times.
Apart from this for those who book direct to us we also have our “special returning guests rates or free upgrades”
Next time; please don’t be shy to ask for it, we are more than happy to offer them also to you.

The full GB team is looking forward to your next visit.

With best regards,
Tommy
