We (family of 3) stayed here for 5 nights in May 2013 and regret not staying longer. We had booked the Deluxe Villa - although the room was a good size (300 odd square feet + an equal sized rooftop), the room itself was smaller than I expected from looking at the photos on the website. That said, it was adequate for us, and we didn't feel crowded.

Our villa came with a private rooftop terrace with a fabulous stone tub and loungers. We didn't really make the best use of the terrace because of the heat. But I did have a long soak in the tub after a hot day touring the temples. And we spent a couple of hours late one evening just relaxing on the terrace and watching the stars and geckos! The stairs to the rooftop are steep but were not a problem for us.

The pool is fabulous and my daughter made a dash for it every chance she got. I especially loved the tropical garden feel of the pool and hotel. The hotel has 16 rooms, about half of which were unoccupied during our stay. So it wasn't too crowded, and not too deserted either.

We loved the food so much we hardly ate out much. The menu is limited - just a page long, so between the three of us, we managed to try almost everything on it during our stay. There are quite a few local dishes on the menu - these are a must try for the fresh ingredients and subtle flavors - absolutely delicious! I especially loved the mee cha, amok, and Khmer curry.

The staff is very welcoming and friendly and will tell you about local customs, etc. Another great thing about the hotel is its location - it's less than a five minute walk across the river to the Old Market and Pub Street. And it's just a minute's walk to the Siem Reap Art Centre where you can shop for locally made souvenirs and paintings.

To summarize, this hotel is excellent value for money and we had a wonderful stay.

This hotel is great value for money. The rooms are like small apartments all set around a nice pool and lush garden. It is very well located with close proximity to restaurants, shopping and tourist sites. Surprisingly the food was really good here so we didn't eat out that much. The staff are really attentive and friendly and really love to practice their English with the guests. If you like a firm bed you will not be able to fault this place for the money you pay.

Our room had a (concealable) bath/shower on the balcony, and was just great. Very spacious too, with 6 meter high ceilings. The lay-out of the hotel is original and nice, the food too, the staff is fun and rather efficient. We staid for 6 nights and during that time, a bit more than half the clientele was gay. It just took us a few days to figure out how to let the airco run while we were not in the room, which costed us a sleepless, sweaty night. Very very charming hotel.

I have been traveling since more than 6 weeks in India and South East Asia and my favorite place is this one. It just has it all. Great location, excellent rooms, good and friendly staff, good food and all of that at a reasonable price. I would come back to Siem Reap just to stay at this hotel. It has such a good energy. I am eager to discover their Phnom Penh hotel.

We stayed 3 nights at the Golden Banana B&B for our visit to Siem Reap and the Temples of Angkor. I haven't seen the other hotels but I can still say ours was the best. The Golden Banana staff greeted us with a complimentary juice and sat down right away to explain everything Siem Reap has to offer and to answer all of our questions.

The pool and restaurant area are a wonderful place to relax in when it gets too hot to breathe. Little geckos scattering about the outside walls and flowers and plants decorating the place give the Golden Banana a real tropical charm.

The only tiny annoyance: the neighbour's rooster, singing at 4am. Let's have it for dinner, shall we?

I enjoyed a five day stay in April with a friend at the Golden Banana in Siem Reap. This is a little known gem of a boutique hotel and a great place to stay. All the staff there were wonderful to us. The Golden Banana is a short distance from Pub Street and the night market, but quiet and secluded. The food is delicious, and the bartender makes a wonderful martini using ginger infused vodka - wow! I look forward to visiting Cambodia again and staying at the Golden Banana and at the owner's new sister hotel in in Phom Penh.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Golden Banana! We were in the GB II Villa property, with a standard room on an upper floor. The GB II Villa is comprised of four buildings that surround a central pool, which we learned was filled with salt water as a mosquito deterrent. We managed to work in some pool time every day, washing off the dust from the temples and enjoying delicious – and potent – cocktails as the sun set.

The room was decorated with simple wood furnishings and a queen bed with a firm-but-standard-for-Asia mattress. An extra twin bed in the corner meant that three people could share the space. The bathroom was industrial chic and would have been wonderful had the water been at all reliable. After repeated calls to the front desk we were told that there just wasn’t a lot of water in the region and we learned to regulate our usage. All rooms have balconies overlooking the pool and feature giant bathtubs that must only get filled during the rainy season. The resort was fully booked during out stay, but we didn’t hear a peep from the other guests past 10pm. That was left to the Hip Hop club down the street which pumped out music late into the night.

Breakfast was served in the open-air restaurant and was included in our room rate. Choices included eggs, bagels with a variety of toppings, Asian noodle dishes and scrumptious banana pancakes. Dinner at the hotel was also tasty if you're too tired to go out.

We loved the location, which wasn't too far of a walk from the bustling Pub Street area. Even walking back at night, we never felt unsafe.

And if you need to hire a tuk-tuk driver, ask the hotel to call Namo (sp)! He lives nearby and was an absolute joy!

Room Tip: The climb to our third floor room was quite steep, so if you have trouble with stairs you might want...
