“Out of Town Oasis”
Reviewed 16 June 2013

Sojourn is about 15 mins from the city of Siem Reap but is a wonderful surprise package. Staff address you by your Christian name from the moment you arrive. The night of our arrival we were sat down with a lovely cold drink and a snack as well, and had every thing explained about the resort.
Breakfast was great a buffet and all hot meals were cooked to order. The pool was a lovely relief from the hot weather. Massages were wonderful. They do their own tours which were great, tour to the temples, cooking class and fine dining experience. This resort also contributes back into the community by donations and employing local staff. All in all a wonderful time.

The 4 days we spent at sojourn couldn't have been more perfect. We were recommended to stay here by some friends and when we check out their site we decided it was exactly what we were looking for. Some days seeing ankgor wat other nearby temples and some meditation at an ancient site and spa treatments and good food at night.
Sojourn is in a more remote area but we just printed off a map and phone number and our tuk tuk driver called when we were close and they guided us there. The room was great, big with flowers and stone bathroom with a Private outdoor shower. The AC was good and tv had tons of channels but we didn't need it as all spare time was spent at the pool or spa. The grounds are like a garden with flowers and butterflies everywhere and the sound of birds.
Yet even after all that, the best thing about our stay was the staff. Everyone addresses you by name and we truly felt like royalty. Service in the restaurant was at a very high level of professionalism and care. The food was top notch also, especially the duck. Breakfast everyday was very good with 3 juices to choose from, watermelon jasmine was very delicious, and the omelettes were great.
We booked a guided tour and our guide Kimthet Lay could t have been more perfect for our needs. He speaks very good English and also French and Japanese. He knew where to take us when it was less busy and all the eat secret spots for good photos. His vast knowledge of history and Buddhism were just what we wanted to learn on our visit here and it felt like we were visiting a friend in their country not just a guided tour. Request him if you can.
The whole team was really impressive and I hope the management can pass along our thanks to Nary, Sopheap (best mojito maker and for finding my sunglasses), Danny and Narang at the front. Really everyone was amazing but I forget their names. All the spa staff were great also and it's a top notch facility.
I read the negative comments on here because I was curious what could have gone wrong and they were completely laughable.
Learning from the locals what this hotel does for the community only made us more happy that our path led us here. I will definitely be back, hopefully soon.

Sojourn Boutique Villas is the perfect base to explore everything Siem Reap has to offer. It's set in the countryside a 10 minute drive from the town, but with a complimentary taxi service each evening this is only a good thing. There is a lovely pool with a swim-up bar and the food served at the restaurant is delicious. The hotel also offer cheap massages, which are the best I've ever had. My only criticism is that I found the beds really hard – other than that I can't fault this place. We'll definitely be back!

We have stayed at Sojourn several times now, we would,nt dream of staying anywhere else in Siem Reap.
Owners and staff have become friends and they make us feel like family!
The property is stunning, the rooms and the gardens and the pool.
The restaurant serves fantastic food, breakfast is amazing, varied menu all freshly cooked!
We stay in and eat at the restaurant in the evening sometimes and the food is top class!
Service is 5 star in every area, reception, waiting staff, kitchen, house keeping and spa!
Because the Sojourn is out of town they provide Tuk Tuk drivers to take you around at a very reasonable cost, these are all checked out for safety and customer service.
At this point I must mention our Tuk Tuk driver Mr Loeun, his language skills are very good, english and some french. He took us around and was always very helpful, from taking us to buy a phone to finding restaurants out of the way, we also had many a good night at road 60 and pub street with him and the other Sojourn Tuk Tuk drivers!
Our first stay in Siem Reap we stayed at the Villa Siem Reap, that is how we found the Sojourn owned by Anthony and Fiona at the time, they now have the Sojourn only.
The staff are treated well and have many benefits not offered to many hospitality workers in Cambodia.
Anthony and Fiona are also involved with many other projects in the area, with involvement from staff members, they recently built a school that we were lucky enough to visit, it was a highlight of our trip!
They also run Beyond tour company in town, we have done many of the tours and again they are top class.
All in all Sojourn exceeds expectations and owners, management and staff go all out to help in any situation.
Thank you to all of you, we are planning our next trip as I write this!

We spent a week here from June 2-8, 2013 and had a truly wonderful experience. The hotel is a little off the beaten path and outside of town, but is in a quiet tropical intimate setting that is clean and inviting. The staff is excellent, always smiling and knows you by name. English is well spoken.
The villas are well furnished with cold A/C, ceiling fan and comfortable beds. Each villa has a mini-fridge and safe, as well as abundant storage for clothes and belongings. English cable channels are abundant if you have any time for tv. The bathrooms are spacious filled with heavenly bath salts, gels, shampoos, and conditioners. A deep bathtub with cascading waterfall and separate shower awaits after a hot day at the temples, which are close by. A clean cool swimming pool with swim up bar is also a plus.
The Origins Spa is AWSOME--great massages, facials and body scrubs. Prices are great too.
The restaurant serves wonderful food with great selections--prices are reasonable too.
The thing that impressed me the most though, was Sojourns' business model--they employ local people and train them, as well as give back to the community in many ways by supporting local handicrafts and providing education and clean water to the locals of the community in which they are located.
I would strongly encourage anyone with a desire to visit Siem Reap and the nearby temples of Angkor Wat to give Sojourn a try.
I will be back!

After travelling through Vietnam, this was a much needed oasis from the hectic atmosphere. Level of service was excellent, attention to detail second to none, friendly staff, FANTASTIC food! I have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world, and this rivals them all but with a small friendly feel. Everyone calls ou by name. And you must try the Thai Green Chicken Curry, it's divine!

Rooms are spotless and have a great unique feel to them. Nothing is too much trouble. Because its small, its kinda geared more towards couples, but I stayed with a friend and had a great time.
Its only 20min from the main temples, a little out of town but they will organise a driver at a moments notice so its no biggy. We arrived at night, and i must admit, i did wonder if i was being kidnapped by the driver because i didn't know it was down side streets and dirt roads, but funny now looking back! :)

I stayed at Sojourn while visiting Siem Reap on a short trip from Bangkok in January 2013. It was my second trip to Siem Reap (last time, I stayed at the Victoria). Sojourn provided a similar experience in terms of the high quality, but with a much more intimate feel.

The owners and managers were extremely responsive over email, even writing back in what was the middle of the night for them. It wasn't until I actually checked in that I realized I had been exchanging emails with the owner, not just someone working in the reservations department-- these personal touches made staying at Sojourn even more of a pleasure. The staff also made an effort to get to know our names, and call us by them whenever they saw us-- the only problem with this was that I am not great at remembering names, so I always felt bad when I couldn't reply in kind to their smiling greetings. This didn't seem to bother them, though, and their hospitality was beyond repute.

We stayed in one of the bungalows. Though lacking the normal framed pictures you might expect on the walls in a town with the sites that Siem Reap boasts, the room was tastefully decorated and furnished, with all the touches you would expect staying at a high-quality resort in Southeast Asia. The room was very clean, and the nightly turn-down service was lovely. The bathroom was equipped with both a tub and a shower.

The advantage of staying in a bungalow is that it is literally steps from the pool with it's swim-up bar. While not huge, the pool was certainly big enough to allow some degree of solitude even while other guests swam or sipped drinks at the bar. In the evenings, tiki torches and fire pits lit the area around the pool, lending a warm feeling to it without attracting bugs.

The hotel restaurant is also a gem, boasting local specialties, along with Thai and Western style dishes. The complimentary continental breakfast included some wonderful French pastries and a variety of freshly-squeezed juices. Cambodia does Western-style breakfast much better than you might find in Thailand or other Southeast Asian countries.

We also enjoyed an hour-long traditional Khmer massage in the spa. Similar to traditional Thai massage, but somewhat less vigorous (though, you will bend, be prepared), the experienced was augmented by the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of the outdoor pavilion where our feet were washed and massaged before we went inside for the remainder of the massage.

Booking a tuk-tuk and guide to tour the ruins of Angkor (the main reason one would visit Siem Reap) was very easy and handled directly through the front desk. Rates were reasonable, probably in the realm of $35/day for guide and driver. They offer air-conditioned taxi tours as well, but I felt like this would miss the true experience of travelling through the Cambodian countryside in a tuk-tuk. While it is occasionally dusty and bumpy, it's an experience you won't forget.

The hotel is located some distance from the downtown part of Siem Reap, and even a bit further from the Angkor area-- but since the hotel has a dedicated tuk-tuk and air-conditioned taxi on call, getting back and forth between both is quite easy and relatively inexpensive. Because the hotel is not in the middle of town, you likely will not venture out from it on foot in the evening, but we never had trouble getting to Pub Alley or other places in the evening.

One other thing to know about this hotel is that it is run by an Australian couple who also run an NGO focused on development assistance to the local village that surrounds the hotel. In fact, many of the local staff is from this village, and the hotel encourages and assists its workers in learning English, purchasing homes, and generally improving their standard of living. They also offer generous benefits that would be equivalent to those you might find in the US, including a living wage and maternity leave. Their NGO works to promote improved sanitation and waste disposal in the local village, and buys and installs water filters for use by the locals. The hotel also offers a number of tours and workshops designed to put its guests in contact with locals, either simply to see their way of life, or to work alongside them. We took the short village tour, and it was truly excellent.

The only area that Sojourn suffers is that they did not seem to have too many activities for small children. This wasn't a problem for us since we didn't have any travelling with us, but if you have kids under 6 or 7, and are accustomed to a full-service resort (playroom, nanny, etc), you may be disappointed. However, the pool was wonderful, as I said, and the TVs had a wide selection of European, American, and Asian programming.

I wasn't aware of the degree to which the owners have made social responsibility a cornerstone of their business while I was making recommendations, so it was a refreshing surprise. If this is a priority for you, make Sojourn your number one choice in Siem Reap. And even if it's not, this quiet oasis will provide you with a wonderful way to end a day of temple-hopping, and restful night's sleep before your next adventure.

Room Tip: Definitely book a bungalow-- the price difference is negligible, and their proximity to the pool and...
