“Peaceful”
Reviewed 12 October 2010

It was a wonderful stay, from the airport pick up to the check out, everything was fine and taken care of without problems.

The property is located at a local village, which is about 15 minutes from town. That worked fine for us since we liked the peaceful environ without the hassles in the main town. Also, the hotel can arrange a local transport to town that costs just a few dollars.

Our room was clean and spacious, just next to the swimming pool. Since there are like about 10 standalone houses, the place never felt crowded and our needs were taken care of right away.

We had a romantic dinner at the pavilion on a lotus pond about 2 minutes of walk from the hotel. I also asked for a surprise for my partner, since it was his birthday, and they did so discreetly. The floral arrangement was a nice touch.

We booked two tours with the hotel, one to the Angkor Wat and another to the local village. Both were very nice. The guide to the temple knew how to avoid the crowd and advise taking pictures from interesting angles at the temple. I would also recommend the tour to the village, which gives a glimpse of local life (and part of the tour fees goes to the benefits of the village as well).

We liked that some of the hotel staff are actually from the village and the hotel is engaged in helping local people.

The only issue we had during our stay is that one morning someone played the music really loud in the village at 5am and woke us up. It was because of a wedding and the management apologized for the inconvenience (although no fault of its). We had to wake up early that day anyway for the Angkor Wat trip, so it wasn't a huge problem.

In terms of value, it was great. We booked a package that included the room, breakfasts, cocktails at the restaurants and the pool bar as well as massages. All in all, a very friendly, modern hotel, and it is highly recommended.

We found this hotel on TripAdvisor, and booked because of the reviews. Unfortunately, I booked the wrong dates! When we arrived at the hotel, the staff was extremely polite as they searched for our reservations - they brought us cold towels and drinks, and did everything they could to make us comfortable. It turned out that the hotel was booked, so we didn't get to stay, but toured the grounds, and were VERY disappointed that we weren't able to stay! Fiona, the manager, was very gracious - she refused to charge us for the last minute cancellation, and even found us a room at a very good price at a nice hotel in town.

Although we didn't stay here, everything we saw indicates that Sojourn is a top-notch hotel, with excellent service and beautiful grounds.

On the strength of tips from tripadvisor's reviewers, I decided to go for Sojourn on this birthday trip/gift to the wife. I needed a place to complement Angkor Wat and I'm relying on the wisdom of this wonderful crowd - and they are right!
Don't be put off by the initial jolt of the bumpy, winding trek to Sojourn. (*you will know what I mean :). At first it was unsettling, but I get it - it's part of the experience. We were greeted by a gracious Mr. Han, who was forever multi-tasking with much gusto for the rest of our stay! The apsara villa was great with an outdoor shower and a unique tub. The food is Sojourn's secret weapon which was a total surprise. Breakfasts were superb (best banana bread we sampled!) and sweet desserts inside the rooms was a rightfully indulgent experience. GM Erwan was a great host, always with a great recommendation and authentically friendly. His story of the company's involvement in the community and noble projects was inspiring. Even driver Mr.Kin/ Mr.Leng were perfectly patient, as they double up as passable tour guides and restaurant tipsters. Skip a tourist trap buffet dinner/show in the city though, it was a mistake. Forgot the name...
We must applaud management for doing many things rights in Sojourn. It was hard to leave but it is so easy to plan and come back!

... There is only about 10 villas here... so you can just imagine how personalized their service was ... From the point when we step in right up to the final goodbyes, we were well greeted by their very friendly and accomodating staffs...

We took the 3 days package, so we didnt have to worry about anything... the hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of a city/town... set in a village area, it gave us a good insight of a true cambodian lifestyle... and we were comfortably/luxury driven to many interesting places... nearest town was only 10 minutes away, thats where you can do your shopping!

I made some suprise birthday celebration arrangement 2 weeks before via emails ... and everything was carried out as planned! It was such a wonderful and romantic experience with a lot of nice surprises...

We have been to many places before and this is one of our best experience... Will definitely visit and stay here again :)

Thank you Trip Advisor. The reviews of Sojourn Villas helped us decide to stay here. This was our third visit to Siem Reap, and the first to stay away from town. What a great choice. The staff was the best, always wanting to help and referring to us by our first name. The owner suggested places we might want to tour, and the arrangements were made by the Villa. We loved the privacy of our Villa, and the grounds were beautiful. Town was close and transportation was great. We have traveled to many countries, but Sojourn Villas treated us like we were part of their family, not a room number. Thank you for your kindness and thank your staff for the wonderful week we had with you. If anyone is going to Siem Reap, this is the only place you want to stay. Susan Paris

We were amazed with Siam Reap, its temples & people.Sojourn was a welcome change from other hotel experiences..... serene surroundings, friendly staff, great food! The taxi & guide arranged by the hotel were excellent. Mr Choob, the taxi driver has a refreshing sense of humor. I would recommend Sojourn & Siam Reap to friends & family. Don't forget to take a good camera with you folks.....excellent pic ops.

My family and I visited Siem Reap this past weekend and we stayed at Sojourn Villas for three nights. What an amazing stay! The staff could not do more to ensure we had everything we needed for our comfort. The Manager, Auwin (sp?) was fantastic. I had asked when I arrived if a visit to an Orphanage could be arranged as we had brought with us some clothing, stationery and toys. He readily obliged and together with another staff member, helped us locate an orphange that would receive us during the weekend. No task is too difficult for the staff at Sojourn. You can tell that they take pride in their work and have great attention to detail. The grounds are immaculate and every little detail like serving you with a cold towel (especially soothing after a hot day walking around the temples), remembering your name and your childrens' names, placing flowers and a bottle of wine to help celebrate our wedding anniversary -- all these and more makes us recommend this place as the hotel to stay at if you would like to complement your visit to Siem Reap.

The location is a little farther off the main restaurants lined along Pub Street but then again, a number of the nicer hotels are located off the main strip. The temples and other attractions are at least 10-15 mins away from the main street so you will need to get either a tuk-tuk or car to transport you about. We did not find this to be an issue. The staff helped us rent a car to take us to the temples and other attractions for two days and we had a lovely driver named Mr. Khom. Whilst in the city, we would pop into the travel agent Beyond (located right by Pub Street) and they would readily arrange a tuk-tuk to take us back to Sojourn.

One of the tripadvisors mentioned that this establishment is not geared for families with young children. On the contrary, the hotel management and staff were very welcoming and they even handed out a bag of goodies to our children when we arrived! The staff often found opportunities to interact with our two boys aged 2 and 7. We felt very comfortable there and were not worried about them making too much noise whilst playing in the huge bath and rain shower since these are separate villas and there are no thin walls to work around.

The staff recommended the Sugar Palm Restaurant and we found the food there delicious. Definitely recommend the Amok Fish and the Khmer Curry Chicken. Another eatery is the Blue Pumpkin which serves up yummy ice-cream flavours. There is one branch located right outside the Old Market.

Stay at the Sojourn. You will not regret it.
