“Best of 16 Hotels Over 9 Weeks in SEA”
Reviewed 28 January 2014

Stayed seven nights on second floor November 2013 for about $39 per night. My husband (60) and I (55) traveled thru Southeast Asia for 9 weeks. We stayed in 16 guesthouses; most were between $25 to $45 per night. I forced ranked them all: three 5 star, four 4 star, seven 3 star, one 2 star, and one 1 star. OF ALL 16 GUESTHOUSES, ROSE APPLE IS NOT ONLY A FIVE STAR BUT ALSO OUR #1 OVERALL with #1 BEST HOSTS.

Tim and Ohn’s superior service starts even before you arrive at the guesthouse. Tim assigned us a tuk-tuk driver, Soron, who picked us up from the airport and stayed with us throughout our seven-day stay. Soron was always on time - he picked us up before dawn to see the sunrise at Angor Wat and was waiting for us late at night when we emerged from the theater. As a local who taught himself English, Soron provided us insights into Cambodian life in addition to his knowledge of the many sites we visited. In fact, the best day of our nine-week trip was a day-long excursion Tim set up for us with Soron, who we rate the #1 BEST best guide in SEA.

Rose Apple staff is friendly, kind, and warm Cambodians. The interior is sleek modern with a European feel. Big king-size bed with typical, hard Southeast Asia mattress. Room safe. Lovely, good-sized pool were you can actually swim. Good wifi. No balconey attached to room however; there is a large open air 2nd floor roof top sitting area. No room refrigerator; however, breakfast is included and they also offer reasonable lunch ($5.50), dinner ($6.50), and drinks right in the hotel – fantastic after a long day at Ankgor Wat. Don’t get scared when you head down their incredibly bumpy road – their place is lovely but it is in a neighborhood in transition. Cambodia is a fascinating country – wish we could have stayed longer.

Tim and his wife Ohm have made a fantastic place to stay where you can truly relax after long busy days at the temples of Angkor Wat. The warm welcome, the inviting homely atmosphere, the help of the staff finding a good guide for our long but adventurous trip on the motorbike, sharing a glass of wine at the beautiful open bar by the pool after a long day, the extra effort to give you a great breakfast if you cannot eat eggs, the lovely clean room with a good bed and nice bathroom, and not to be forgotten Chin, the friendly and loyal recommended tuktukdriver well so many things which made our stay at the Rose Apple really wonderful.

A quiet hotel, family run, super friendly.
great swimmingpool and nice rooms.

Some of the staff speak very good English, French, Dutch (and maybe more languages)
We were helped with advise not only about the area of Siem Reap, they also helped us with planning trips to other places in Cambodia.

Great place to use as a 'base' for seeing lots of things in this area of Cambodia

(very reliable tuk-tuk driver; no hassles, always good price

A beautiful building, quiet and relaxing just five minutes walk outside the madness of Pub Street.

The only point I was a bit down on was that the breakfast was nothing special (that said, nothing wrong), which given how beautiful the dining area.

The best thing about the B&B was the owner, who bent over backwards organising what we wanted, providing recommendations, it really made the trip that much easier. The location is good and the building is recent, purpose built, and in very very good condition.

My husband and I stayed at the Rose Apple for three nights this month and can't say enough good things about it. We had come from a not-so-great stay in Bangkok and immediately felt welcome and taken care of. Tim greeted us at the door and gave us a thorough orientation to the house and to our room. He gave us great advice for our day trips out and around Siem Reap and has an extensive knowledge of the area. Ohm is a fabulous cook and it was a pleasure to meet her and eat her delicious meals for the time that we were there. The house itself is absolutely lovely, clean, and inviting. The restaurant with the open bar by the pool is by far the best part. Well, maybe not the best part as I also really enjoyed seeing Tim and Ohm with their son and Tim's parents who were staying at the guesthouse. There is an air of family and warmth and an earnest desire to make your stay in Cambodia the best it can be. I would definitely stay at the Rose Apple again if I ever traveled back and Siem Reap (and I hope I do!).

I stayed at the Rose Apple for five days, having received the recommendation for it by another guesthouse in the South of Cambodia. I am very glad I followed the advice, I felt very welcome by all staff, how lovely it would be if the atmosphere and service could be maintained for a looooong time. The recommended tuk-tuk driver was a valuable asset for the time in Siem Riep for solo-traveller

Room Tip: I liked the garden view I had

To be honest, this could sound like a hackneyed phrase!
But - it's the easiest and most effective way to explain the stay in Ohns and Tims "Rose Apple" (and of course their terrific team).

All the things which are already written repeatedly here in different and multiple ways were also our daily impressions during a 5-day stay.

The service of the whole team, the perfect suggestions and recommendations, the support in any case were absolutely considerable.

But the most thing we enjoyed was the natural behavior that let us feel at home - and not staying in a hotel or guesthouse.
For sure, this is a personal view, but for us it was an extraordinarily impression during 7 years of traveling both business-wise and private.

Thanks Ohn and Tim!
Highly recommended!
