Stayed seven nights on second floor November 2013 for about $39 per night. My husband (60) and I (55) traveled thru Southeast Asia for 9 weeks. We stayed in 16 guesthouses; most were between $25 to $45 per night. I forced ranked them all: three 5 star, four 4 star, seven 3 star, one 2 star, and one 1 star. OF ALL 16 GUESTHOUSES, ROSE APPLE IS NOT ONLY A FIVE STAR BUT ALSO OUR #1 OVERALL with #1 BEST HOSTS.
Tim and Ohn’s superior service starts even before you arrive at the guesthouse. Tim assigned us a tuk-tuk driver, Soron, who picked us up from the airport and stayed with us throughout our seven-day stay. Soron was always on time - he picked us up before dawn to see the sunrise at Angor Wat and was waiting for us late at night when we emerged from the theater. As a local who taught himself English, Soron provided us insights into Cambodian life in addition to his knowledge of the many sites we visited. In fact, the best day of our nine-week trip was a day-long excursion Tim set up for us with Soron, who we rate the #1 BEST best guide in SEA.
Rose Apple staff is friendly, kind, and warm Cambodians. The interior is sleek modern with a European feel. Big king-size bed with typical, hard Southeast Asia mattress. Room safe. Lovely, good-sized pool were you can actually swim. Good wifi. No balconey attached to room however; there is a large open air 2nd floor roof top sitting area. No room refrigerator; however, breakfast is included and they also offer reasonable lunch ($5.50), dinner ($6.50), and drinks right in the hotel – fantastic after a long day at Ankgor Wat. Don’t get scared when you head down their incredibly bumpy road – their place is lovely but it is in a neighborhood in transition. Cambodia is a fascinating country – wish we could have stayed longer.
