Lush tropical gardens, ponds with bright pink lilies, mango trees laden with fruit, and palm trees form an archway, while ducks gaggle about when you go down the pathway of the River Garden, a delightful piece of paradise. It is close enough to get to everything in the centre of Siem Reap if you are inclined to find a faster pace of action, but far enough to feel like a retreat from the hubbub.
The food is fresh and fantastic, inspired by Khmer and Western recipes, the staff is all gracious, delightful to chat with and keen to make guests happy.
My room was spacious, pristine and equipped with all the mod cons, while retaining a local flavour with beautiful objet d’art giving it an elegant feel.
The River Garden has created a personalised tour of the local markets followed by an in house cooking lesson, called Cooks in Tuktuks. Deb the owner is an artist of all things culinary and her latest venture has been to launch a café on the front terrace of the property overlooking the river which serves up delicious morsels for lovers of sweets, including salted caramel, rich chocolate tarts, coconut ice and truffles.
