Angkor Miracle Resort & Spa
Ranked #77 of 365 Hotels in Siem Reap
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 7 January 2014

We stayed at the Angkor Miracle Resort and Spa over Christmas with a voucher which we purchased through Getaway Lounge.

Some of the pros of the resort were:

- Reservation process was painless
- Room was clean and comfortable and the decor was nice
- Staff were friendly and tried their best to be helpful
- Food given the area was pretty good - nice selection of room service items

There were a few areas of improvement however, which would have made the stay even more pleasant:
- Some of the items on our voucher (such as the limousine transfer) were forgotten
- There were a few issues booking tours and receiving confirmations from the Concierge. Also some of the tours were late and as there was no formal booking system, it was difficult for the staff to trace back the bookings
- The shop was far too expensive for the area. One summer dress on display was $120. Considering you could go down to the local market and pay $10-$15 for something similar - it was much too expensive
- The spa treatments were too expensive and the hour and a half massage would have been more pleasant if there were music or if the staff members didn't talk to each other the whole time

Overall the stay was lovely and would recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Ensure you choose a room that overlooks the pool. Rooms on the other side have a view of the buildin...

We spend in this hotel 6 days around New Year's Eve and it was quite ok. Still, I wouldn't rate it as a 5 stars hotel because it lacks some of the basic features of comfort. I'm sorry, but for me a place where I can't enjoy a bath after a long day and where I can't wash my hair because of the low temperature of the water...is not even a 2 stars...The water was just warm enough to have a (quick) shower. When I called the reception they immediately sent me somebody who turn on the tap and smiled. Of course, he didn't skeap English, so I couldn't explained that I need more than just warm...At he reception I asked if the system is solar-based and if there is a better time of the day to have a bath but they just denied it. Now I read in the reviews quite the contrary...Anyway, I just felt stupid, until another guest complained to me about the same..
On the other hand, rooms are big and beautiful, bathroom is huge, elegant and dark (never managed to put my make up there) and the TV has a lot of chanels. Eventually you'll find something in your own language.
As I said, rooms are big but looks like the confort wasn't the main priority. For instance, there was a kettle provided, but no plug around, in the shower absolutely nothing to put your shampoo etc on, so everything was on the floor, the closet was just a incredibly small place on top of the safe etc.
But they did placed a soft matress on top of the hard one, so they do read and pay attention to travelers' complaints. That's good !

Breakfast was mainly Asian and room smells like a cantine, but you can always find something acceptable even if you are not into noodles at 7 am. Once we went to have breakfast at 10 to 10 and they were quite strict and almost rude with us because they wanted to close.

Wifi didn't work properly (maybe too many people conected) and the massages in the spa were quite mediocre.

The best part of staying here was the restaurant. The food was so good that we had dinner there every night. The staff was also very professional and the prices quite reasonable. A must try !

And the worst part (except for the hot water) was the noise coming from the next door hotel construction works. The noise would start at around 7am (even in New Year's day) and last the whole day. So I guess it's ok only if you plan to visit the temples every day. We planned 2 days to relax but it was quite impossble because of the noise and dust, so we didn't enjoy the pool nor the beautiful terrace we had. A pity...

Anyway, it's a beautiful hotel that can become excelent with some improvements.

Firstly I'll open by saying the Angkor Miracle was a nice place, pool was good, and the lobby was very well done, but it just misses the mark on a couple of things. Firstly at check-in...we did arrive early and I understand that check-in is at 2:00 pm, however, we waited for 45 minutes from arrival until they'd 'processed' our documents to be told that we couldn't get into any of our rooms earlier (there were three couples travelling)...this was a lot longer a process than it should have been. Secondly we were assurred, in writing, that all 3 rooms would be on the same floor, this did not occur at first, and after requesting what we were promised, we were unable to get into our room prior to going out for dinner at 7:00 pm that night...even the most tolerant of people would find an 8 hour delay in check-in unacceptable. Number 3 ... not sure what the walls of the rooms are made of, but the noise from other rooms and the corridor was very noticeable, loud in fact.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful, particularly the concierge, and the food at the breakfast buffet was fine. Siem Reap is a fun town, and the old temples were exceptional. If the Angkor Miracle can sharpen up their check-in process the hotel will be much improved.

Room Tip: look for the rooms with the bigger balconies

This hotel was an extremely poor value for the money! The customer service was terrible. We asked to be moved three days in a row because of loud in-house construction and a strong toxic smell. We were told it would happen but it never did. The front desk staff kept referring us to a supervisor who spoke very little English and only told us what he thought we wanted to hear, only to never deliver on the promises to appease our concerns. We had to pay $140 per couple for a New Year's Gala Dinner that provided only mediocre food, no alcoholic drinks and blasted us with loud, poor quality music... A very poor effort at a "gala" dinner! The check-in process was absolutely painful. I would not stay here again or recommend it to my friends!
On a positive note, the working staff were friendly and always said hello in the hallways!

Room Tip: Pool view especially on the ground floor.

We recently stayed at this hotel just before Christmas for five nights. We travelled as a couple and only paid $359. For this price I wasn't sure what to expect but the resort was wonderful. There is some renovation work being done but this was only during the day and did not bother me at all. The rooms were very clean and we had a room which lead to the pool which I loved. The people in the resort were very friendly and helpful even if they were trying to learn English, but I don't speak Khmer but that is part of the fun of travelling overseas!!! Lovely resort only a 10 minute tuk tuk ride to pub street. Would definitely stay there again.

We had a great trip. The hotel is not massively central, it has everything you need to wind down from a full day of temple bashing. Pool was great and the coffee from the coffee shop was AWSOME. Had a problem in the spa and the manager was great, straightened it out and a total refund and comp massage. Nice place all good all round,

Room Tip: Not on the ground floor, to loud.

I will try to only use plain, adjective-free examples to illustrate this rating because otherwise it would just seem like a rant.

Summary: this in no where near a 4 or 5 star hotel. At best, 3 stars, if the construction noise ceases. Check my other posts. I have stayed everywhere in the world. Third world country hotels much cheaper than this have been closer to 4 star. Just overbooked, over crowded, rude thoughtless patrons by the busloads, construction noise...all making it very stressful and painful to stay here. Would NOT recommend.

Will start positive and go from there....

The lobby, restaurant, and room service staff/quality of service-Good:
Always smiling, eager to assist, and good english capabilities. When we asked for one of the rooms to be changes because it smelled like a ashtray, they accommodated and even facilitated the moving of the luggage with no issues.

The spa and salon staff-Poor:
Though also smiling and courteous, the quality lacked. Two aromatic oil body massage appointments both botched up as the masseuse did not know how to properly massage. No apparent rhythm or sequence to the massage as they jumped all over the body, they literally sat on your butt and ran their fingers uncoordinated up and down your back, and applied uneven, spastic pressure. The pedicurist did nothing to treat the bottom or soles of the feet, only applied two coats, and did not know what a base or top coat were (ladies will know this). Patrons are better off in town with the cheap $5 massages which are much better organized and higher quality.

And here are the absolute non-starters:

THE NOISE:
There are currently two simultaneous construction projects ongoing. The hotel itself is remodeling/renovating its 2-5th floors and the banging and hammering and drilling starts EVERYDAY at 0600. It's absolutely infuriating. Secondly, the property next door (literally next to the pool) is being constructed so that drilling and jackhammering and sawing also starts EVERYDAY around 6am. And if that doesn't wake you up cranky on a Sunday am, the obnoxious, discourteous and ignorant guests of the hotel will.... Takes me to the next point.

THE PATRONS:
If you claim to be a five star, then start booking busloads (counted 7 busloads of Korean and Chinese tourists checking in yesterday), then you better be large enough and well staffed enough to accommodate them all without disrupting all of your other guests. We (our party of 5, in three different rooms) have all been woken up by lost/confused/rude tour groups either slamming their doors repeatedly starting at 0530, yelling up and down the hall at their crying screaming children starting at 0600, and straight up banging on our doors "by mistake". The SAME lady did this to us two days in a row at 0615... At some point coincidence and 'oopsies' become stupidity.... And the hotel can manage this by limiting their capacity.
