“One of the most unusual hotels I have ever stayed in”
Reviewed 9 December 2011

Terrasse des Elephants is in a great spot just adjacent to the old market, near the river, and a 5 minute walk from the night market and dozens of restaurants and shops. I can't image a better location in the town. The hotel itself has the funkiest rooms I've ever seen. Large and spread out, they all have reliefs and carvings of some sort inside. Our room was a little difficult to maneuver as the toilet was on one side, the shower was fairly open in another area, and the sink was up a couple of steps in yet another corner. It's not customer friendly if you have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet. Our room was on the fourth floor and the hotel does not have an elevator so if you are at all physically-challenged, this is not the place for you. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast is excellent. The pool on the roof is also a nice perk. I'd stay here again but I would probably insist on a room on a lower floor.

This hotel is right in the heart of Siem Reap - minutes from the Old Market, Pub Street and the Night market - yet it manages to provide a peaceful retreat from the noise and heat.
The rooms are unlike any I have ever seen! Miniature Bayon temple waterfalls in your room - complete with lotus flowers drifting around the stream you have to cross to your shower! Very cool and unusual. Big, comfy four poster beds too.
True, there are geckos in the rooms but they just add to the exotic feel. The rooms are kept very clean.
There is a great swimming pool and eating area upstairs - again with Cambodian sculptures and plants around - plus a lovely big terrace area downstairs for drinks and food.
The staff were all so friendly, helpful and genuinely charming.
So yes, the hotel is different from the run of the mill chain hotels but, I feel, in a uniquely artistic and cool way.

Room Tip: Rooms on 3rd floor are right by the pool.

This hotel is situated in the best location. Walking distance to the markets and Pub Street where all the great restaurants and bars are. The Hotel staff are so friendly and welcoming and room service is very quick and always with a smile. The rooms are different but thats what we wanted - little fountain in the shower area - the design was fabulous. The curtains though need to be thicker and bigger - please replace. After a long day at the Temples, we ordered a massage to our room and was wonderful. THe Receptionist Chanthy was so friendly and helpful and made our stay perfect. Chanthy organised all our tours and we were very happy with our driver and english speaking guide that she organsied. Chanthy also reccommended the hotel restaurant which we enjoyed and the staff there also very friendly. Mr John was also very friendly and brought our yummy food to our room when we wanted room service or drinks by the pool. The pool is on the roof top and is so refreshing in the gardens on the roof. Our stay would not have been so comfortable or enjoyable if it wasnt for the lovely friendly and welcoming charm of Chanthy. Thankyou Chanthy for our memorable stay in Siem Reap, and beacuase of you and your service, we will stay there again - so make sure you are there for us! Your customer service is perfect and we have told lots of our friends about your beautiful service. Thankyou to Chanthy & Mr John.

Room Tip: all rooms are unique at this hotel

What a great hotel. Decorated with unique decor from the area, this hotel does not feel like four walls and what you get almost everywhere else.

My room was at the top just off the fantastic pool. Huge room with a replica ruin as a waterfall in the bathroom.

The location was exactly what I wanted right at the heart of the town and 2 minute walk from pub street.

Very clean and comfortable and great value for the money. Other posts have mentioned the noise being located so close to all of the restaurants and activity. While I heard some noise, it was not unusual and did not disturb me in any way.

Room Tip: The room I had was great due to size and unique decoration. Right off the pool. It was a superior...

The hotel is very centrally located close to all pubs and restaurants. The reception staff is friendly and moderately helpful ( they will help you with tuk tuk and other sightseeing arrangements, but they will recommend only their restaurant like others do not exist ). The staff at the bar / restaurant area is very very very slow. The breakfast is rather poor. now the rooms. They are masterfully decorated in Khmer / Angkor Wat style. But the ornate stone carvings are difficult to clean, they collect dust and for me dust means allergy. The pond with water flowers and the fountain are a nice and romantic touch but they sure add extra humidity. Strange squeaking insect, a resident of the room, did add to our experience. The supply of hot water is not steady, the shower needs at least a normal curtain. It is made for looks not for convenience. On the whole my recommendation is to book one night at the Terrasse, enjoy it and move on to a more comfortable place.

You love it or probably hate it. I loved it! Lovely roof pool and garden right in the heart of Siem Reap, right next to all bars, restaurants and the famous night market. Rooms are very different to anything I've seen before: water fall in the shape of Angkor Thom temple! Very large and comfortable rooms, absolutely lovely staff! Great breakfast, and very good restaurant as well. Really loved every second at Terrasse des Eléphants and would definitely recommend it!

This hotel has a great location next to pub street and lane with all the restaurants. It is far away enough though not to be disturbed by any noise. The pool is really nice too. Other than the location and the pool you couldn't help but think the rooms were a little odd. I had an 8 foot water feature in the shape of Angkor wats middle Temple! Sure, it is right on theme I suppose but I thought it was a bit odd. The room was massive and you could have done so much with it if it didn't have that in it.

The staff were good although in keeping with hotel staff in the rest of Cambodia you get the impression they are still finding their feet. It's not a criticism though. When you hear what the country went through less than 30 years ago it is a miracle how far they have come.

The prices were probably higher than I would expect for this hotel but not massively so. it is ideally located and a good choice all things considered.
