“Excellent hotel with great staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2011

We found this boutique hotel and at the beginning we were a little bit concerned as it wasn't close to the city centre but the treatment given by all the staff, the amazing rooms (for once the photos paid tribute to reality), the brilliant swimming pool, a perfect place to unwind after visiting the temples or walking around the city, the mobile phone given by the hotel for you to carry so that you can call them in case you get lost or need to be picked up by their own tuk-tuk or car, the massive breakfast carefully cooked to your own taste. Anyway, a brilliant place to stay. Some hotels pick you up from the bust station or airport but this one gave you rides to the city centre and back at your own convenience.
A downside could be the high prices for the guides but if anything goes wrong with the guide, they will deduct an amount from the bill and they did it without even us asking it as they found out by themselves that our guide was not up to scratch. Anyway, a place to come back to and to recommend, as we´been doing so since we left.

Our taxi driver hadn't heard of the place and had to drive around a bit to find it with the directions we had (a map would be helpful), then he turned down this dirt road that is little more than an alleyway and drove past some pretty ramshackle houses--a bit worrisome after driving down the main road in Siem Reap and seeing some of the big fancy places that the tour buses were parked at.

But our anxiety quickly resolved once we pulled in at the Bunwin Boutique hotel. We were greeted by several men who helped with luggage. Check in was a breeze, the general manager came out to personally greet us and make sure everything had gone well. The conveniently put us in adjoining rooms--which we appreciate so that we can put the kids in one room and we adults can stay in our own room instead of having to split up when the rooms are separated.

The rooms were spacious, there were flowers and a gorgeous fruit plate was provided. The beds were quite large and very high quality mattresses and bedding with plenty of plush pillows. The showers were large and quite fancy with a French drain styling. Flat screen TVs were provided as were a room safe (unfortunately there were no instructions provided and we inadvertently locked them closed before we could use them. The pool was large enough for our family and maybe one other, but the best thing about it is that it sits in the shade of the main building of the hotel and thus the water stays quite cool and comfortable--a very refreshing swim was in order upon arrival.

So yes, the amenities were great, but that is not where this hotel really shines--it's all about the service. There are copious staff that are always available and eager to help. They have their own tuk-tuk and will take you anywhere in town that you need to go (though not as far as the Angkor Wat sites) for free (though we did tip). The arrange any taxi and guide services you need and can do it on a moments notice. When you go out they provide you with a mobile phone so you can call them to come pick you up in the tuk-tuk or in case you have any problems--seriously, have you EVER had a hotel provide a mobile phone for free?

We were able to arrange to go to Angkor Wat about 2 hours after arriving in Siem Reap to view the sunset. We also wanted to see sunrise early the next morning and they conveniently arranged our taxi and guide for the day for that as well. Normal breakfast time, however, doesn't start until 6am and we were leaving at 5:30am--no problem, the concierge spoke with the kitchen and they provided each of us with a bread basket with French bread, white bread, a plain croissant and a chocolate croissant as well as with butter and jam--even a real butter knife. Can't tell you how much we appreciated that. The next morning did enjoy the sit down breakfast which was huge and delicious with an Asian choice and an American choice for entree, perfectly cooked eggs, an entire pot of tea for each person, fresh fruit, a large basket of the previously mentioned bread, and more great service.

Not everything was perfect--there were stains on the towels and a small stain on one of the bed sheets--they were clean and it just looked like rust stains or something, but still a bit disturbing to use what looks like a brown towel! Also, while we were showering the water pressure dropped and we no longer had any running water. That said, when my son reported it to the front desk it was addressed and we had good water pressure again within 5 minutes.

When we originally booked our stay gas prices were pretty low, we were quoted $35 for the taxi they'd arrange from the Thai-Cambodian border to Siem Reap then the same back. When we got there we learned that the prices had gone up for gas and, subsequently, the taxies. But, again showing their dedication to customer service, the hotel absorbed the difference in cost honoring our original $35 quoted price.

This is not the fanciest place in town and you certainly don't want to try walking from the hotel to see the sites as the distance is fairly long and the neighborhood isn't great. But they recognize this and provide the mobile phone and tuk-tuk and help arrange for taxi and guides so it really is not an inconvenience to be located where they are. For the price we paid we were absolutely satisfied and felt quite spoiled and comfortable.

This spectacular (& not to mention, new) Boutique Hotel was a wonderful find in Siem Reap. The hotel is located just a short shuttle ride (which is provided free of charge from the hotel) from the central area of Siem Reap. Hotel staff provided us with a local map, travel information, suggested visits to the Night Market, etc...
We had two complimentary bicycles provided to us by the hotel to cycle to Angkor Wat. We cycled to, from and all around Angkor Wat back to the hotel and it was a leisurely distance and a flat road.
The restaurant at the hotel has wonderful food - fresh, tastey (especially the Fish Amok!) and great service.
The room was very spacious, clean and always had fresh linens and towels, soaps and shampoos. We had fresh towels around the pool every day as well. The gardens nice, and the peaceful atmosphere was perfect for eating breakfast by the pool every morning. We didn't bring a laptop on our trip, so everyday we "borrowed" a laptop from the hotel (free of charge) and logged into their wifi (also free). Very accommodating!
Will definitely go back. We loved Cambodia!

My partner and I traveled to Cambodia and Vietnam in mid January where we've stayed at a lot of different hotels from five stars international establishments to budget lodgings - Bunwin Boutique Hotel is by far our favourite hotel for our whole trip. Right from the moment we stepped out of Siem Reap international airport we were so well looked after by the staff with their free private transfer, and this service was offered to us regularly through out our five days stay until they drop us off at the airport again on the last day.

The staff at Bunwin made our stay particularly memorable as they were friendly, helpful and genuinely attentive to our needs. The premise is a little bit out of the way from the busyness of national route 6, so it offered an oasis of peace and intimacy that one cannot find at big hundred rooms hotel complexes.

The rooms themselves are spacious, modern, clean and very comfortable. We stayed at one of the deluxe rooms, and at 42 sqm there is plenty of room for couples, or even small families. The en-suite shower and toilet is also fairly big, and they provided us with nice amenities. The room also consisted of an open bathtub which is a lovely idea but like many hotels in Asia, there were not enough hot water to fill it so that was a shame. However, the swimming pool is just on our door step as all the rooms faces the swimming pool, which was convenient for a cool evening dip after a long hot day visiting the temple. The grounds are covered with tropical plants and is very well cared for by the staff.

The complimentary breakfast was quite a treat - we got well fueled each morning with a 'three course' breakfast of bread basket filled with baked goods served with homemade jam, a main of our choice (Asian or American), and a fruit platter to finish, all accompanied with espresso coffee, hot tea and freshly squeezed juices.

The hotel staff were very helpful with temple/tour information; they arranged for an all-day tuk-tuk driver for our temple visit who was really really lovely and helpful. Ask for Kim Engly, or just 'Li' if you are going to stay there and in need for a driver.

Overall, we had an amazing stay at Bunwin (thank you Bunwin staff!) and we would definitely stay there again when we visit Siem Reap. If you enjoy the comfort, privacy and intimacy of small boutique hotels then this is definitely the hotel for you.

The reality very much met my expectation with this hotel, I wanted something a little away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre so it was quiet and peaceful. It's down a short section of unmade road so don't let that worry you when you first arrive - the hotel is spotless. The breakfasts are very nice, especially the freshly made fruit juice's. It's personal service to the table rather than the usual buffet style. I ate a few times at the hotel and can recommend the chef's salad. To start with when I arrived there was some mood music playing constantly at low volume from speakers near the pool by my room patio window, I'm a very light sleeper and this was disturbing - I only had to mention it once to staff and the speakers got turned off for the rest of my visit :-). The hotel will arrange transportation of your choosing, round the temples etc and drop you into town and collect when you want. They also have bikes you can borrow. I'm sure this place will quickly move up the ratings as its only been open a short while.

Only 10 rooms, so its a nice place for a holiday for family and couple d. the staff is very friendly and helpful especially Kresma who help us a lot with the local info and arranging tours. She was a great asset. e. Definitely highly recommended to anyone wanting something different, priced around US50 per night and don't want they typical hotel environment and layout.

We have just spent four days staying at the brand new Bunwin Boutique Hotel, the hotel is just the perfect place to stay while exploring Siem Reap, it is just a short Tuk Tuk ride from the centre of town but its a delightful haven away from the noise and bustle of the main streets, as it is tucked down a little lane off the main road No 6 . It’s a little hard to find the first time but its well worth the effort.
It only has 10 rooms, which all face out onto the beautiful black tiled swimming pool and garden.
The rooms are beautiful and very large, decorated with simple elegance, with polished concrete floors. The staff are also really lovely and will do everything to please, they even rang our Tuk Tuk driver to check that we were OK while out visiting the temples.
If you want to get away from the many huge hotels in the town and just want somewhere special to stay, this is the place … just delightful, highly recommended in all ways
