“Great food, great place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2014 via mobile

Went here in June 2014. The food was fresh, delicious, and affordable. The eggplant pork dish was the favorite at our table, but everything was great. Highly recommend.

Our Tuk Tuk driver didn't know the restaurant, but we told him the south end of Wat Bo Road, and it was really easy to find from there.

“Good food, good cause.”

I ordered a vermicelli shrimp salad which was good value and flavorful. Their fried corn is also very good. Would recommend this place for a good value, tasty meal.

“Our #1 in Siem Reap”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2014

During our recent 11 days in Siem Reap we ate at many fine restaurants, some of which I will review. Of them all, Green Star was our favorite and we had several dinners here.

It is not terribly fancy but pleasant and clean. It is a training restaurant. There are several NGOs that operate training restaurants in town.

They feature great Khmer dishes and sometimes fuse them with Western traditions in new and unusual ways. There are daily specials and we often ordered of the specials list; although we also used the regular menu. The prices are very reasonable.

This restaurant prepares young men and women for careers in the culinary tourism sector and gives them a good shot at a better life.

“Solid meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2014 via mobile

Having reviewed the most local ratings of restaurants through the TripAdvisor 'near me' capability we came across the 'Green Star' - a 'not for profit' restaurant which funded some sort of school with the option of donating a dollar to feed a pupil of their establishment.

The food was substantially better than any other meal we'd had so far in Cambodia, and even the South-East Asian area so much so we ate twice there in a 3 night stay.

For our first meal we ordered a few light bites that included delicious crispy battered onion rings, as well as pork spring rolls that were perfectly cooked and well seasoned - perfect light bites! For mains we ordered two cashew chickens which were by far the best I had especially with the sauce being sticky and sweet with a decent amount of vegetables. The Khmer Yellow Curry which the others had ordered was a perfectly coconut creamy bowl of joy.

For our second meal we ordered again light bites, but this time opted for sesame seed chicken which was perfectly spiced and crunchy. However, the second lot of onion rings we ordered in no way matched up to our first with thick stoggy dough lining the ring making for a disappointing follow up. We then ordered the 'Spicy Duck' something that we had missed out of the night before due to it being it out of stock. The dish was slightly disappointing though still very tasty. It was over-powered with lemon grass and I felt the texture was off due to it being a bitty and often of a plasticy feel.

As an added note you will need order extra rice at a cost of 25 cents. The restaurant is also not open for lunch.

Whilst over all the meals were excellent and my criticisms are perhaps minor for under $25, and with the good cause in mind it comes thoroughly recommended.
