The staff were welcoming & accommodating! I have nothing but praises for them. Loven was helful with his email replies. John, Dara, 'Barang' & Pol were amazing! Thank you for introducing us to the delicious Mee Char. We had a little party the night before we left for Phnom Penh. I was there with another girlfriend of mine. & we had an amazing time in Siem Reap, partly thanks to our stay at 1961. It was nothing short of amazing. Just gotta add this, the resident dog, Vuitton is adorable!

The staff of this hotel are very kind and it is the only thing that was good... The room is not the same as shown in the sites... It looks much better than it really is in the pictures. The toilet is terrible and they could improve the breakfast.

My daughter and I had a memorable Cambodia experience, Loven and Faith made our stay in Siem Reap something we will cherish. The accommodation in the Hotel was excellent because of the warmth and hospitality of the staff. Great breakfast and on the last day before we flew back home, the dinner prepared for us was unforgettable! Plan to go back with the rest of the family!

Room Tip: Rooms are extra ordinary so do not expect the usual hotel amenities...but ambiance is wonderful!

We stayed at Hotel 1961 for 4 days & 3 nights. It's a 10 minute tuktuk ride from the Old Market and Pubstreet. They have an airport pickup service for you so there's no need to commute from the airport to the hotel. Loven, the owner, is a great host and gladly helped us on our itinerary, touristy and non-touristy stuff. 1961 has this nice and very relaxed vibe great for your post temple adventure. You also get to have a glimpse of Siem Reap's growing art scene. You're in for a treat if they are holding an event/exhibit launch during your stay. We're lucky enough to experience Siem Reap Prom Night.

The rooms were really cozy and nice. We stayed at the Kennedy's and the Kep and Kampot rooms. Each room is uniquely themed so I suggest if you're staying long enough, you might wanna try all the rooms or perhaps ask Loven to tour you around the hotel. They have all the basic amenities there (except for toothpaste which you can request anyway). Hotel 1961 has free bike rentals and I suggest you try biking around the river area in the morning.

If you want a different souvenir from the usual stuff you see at the Old Market, the hotel has these graphic stickers, very amusing and it's only for a dollar!

If you're the kind of person who wants peace from the touristy crowd and the hustle and bustle of Pubstreet, this is the hotel for you.

Unfortunately we could stay for just 2 nights, I wish it would have been longer. This hotel is kind of a small juwel in Siem Reap. The rooms are decorated lovingly, the owner Loven is a really nice person and a great host. We got a tasty breakfast although we had to leave at 6.30 in the morning. When we visit Cambodia again, ther's no question, we will stay at the 1961!

Located in River Garden area, 1961 hotel looks like a small gallery hotel with its own artistic decoration. Further, the hotel also offers eight themed rooms with different style of interiors. They are so impressive and unique.

The location is not far from Pub Street, but you can go there by tuk tuk or rent the bike next to the hotel. The food is good with traditional Filippino breakfast. The drink is good also with chilled-out music. Especially, all people in the hotel are so kind and funny. They are willing to support us all the time we have concerns about transportation, local food and restaurant.
We are very pleased to stay there again and introduce the hotel to others when visiting Cambodia. Yes, highly recommended!

Thanks all of you guys in 1961. You made me feel like I was staying with my family in Viet Nam. Just a moment to look back on 2 nights in the hotel, the room was so amazing with unique decorating. Everyone often wanna stay in a perfect room but the budget around 30USD, 1961 is a good choice for you. Normally, with that budget you could find a 3 stars hotel with swimming pool, but take it simple that you could swim free of charge in the Hotel beside named River Garden.

Located not so far from the Pub Street, you can take tuk tuk only 1USD/ person or rent the bike from the hotel next door with 2USD/ day. The local food is around the hotel. You should ask your tuk tuk driver take you to the Garden River area before coming here, any tuk tuk driver don't know about 1961.

The tuk tuk driver of the hotel was so kind, he offered us a daily tour to Angkor with twice going back and only charge us 17USD. The couple owner are so funny, he shake me a good Margarita. I also feel free here when most of guest from Philipines cou' I used had time to study in Manila. Philipine envinroment in Khmer spirit . Highly recommended !

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
1961 is primarily an address for art. This is an ART HOTEL. If you are a backpacker or a budget traveler booking our hotel just because our rates suit your budget then we are not the hotel for you! WE ARE THE HOTEL FOR ARTISTS, ART ENTHUSIASTS and TRAVELERS SEEKING CREATIVE NOURISHMENT.Housed in a 1960’s style villa which was formerly a private home turned into a local karaoke bar and then now being resurrected into a creative complex comprising of a series of galleries, artists’ and designers’ studios, dining & shopping destinations including an eight-room “creative hotel”, 1961 came to us as an inspiration to the “nowness” of how we all imagined the future to be in the sixties. The decade of revolutions in art, fashion, architecture, politics, and music, the 60’s was also Cambodia’s golden age.In the purest sense of the word, we are not a hotel, but a creative space where one can stay and immerse into a world of artists, poets, musicians and writers. Not only do we allow guests to indulge in the artists’ worlds, we also encourage them to take part in the process of the creation of the room as a living art space.Eight different rooms present itself as mini galleries that host individual spaces of artistry from curated beddings, hand printed pillow cases, book-filled shelves, and walls riddled with literary musings. A movie and music specialist changes the selections everyday. ... more   less
