“Best guesthouse in town”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

This guesthouse is just perfect, usually i'm more conservative but this guesthouse has it all. The staff is very helpful and can assist you with anything (e.g. Breakfast to go at 5am) the dorms are pretty, clean, has a/c and fans and is a hidden gem since it is very quiet which I find a perfect hideaway for a couple days. I sincerely recommend this guesthouse when staying in siem reap! Try their food as well they have some very good indonesian food as well.

We had an OK stay at this hotel. The ceilings are so low and there was no fridge. Bathroom was tiny. Otherwise location is excellent. Good for a budget stay. No window on the room and extremely low ceilings make it very claustrophobic. Otherwise not so bad.

Hi Jason,

Thank you for the feedback. We are sorry to know that you were offered a room without window.
We do have room with window ( Apple Green and Cyber), these two rooms are located on the highest floor.

Due to full booking, therefore a room without window was offered.

Look forward to welcome you again, do ask for Apple Green or Cyber, if you book with us.

Regards,

The room I had was nice and comfortable, however had no windows what so ever. But had aircon so was not hot.
Bathroom was good and clean, good shower! (Nice after weeks of weak showers)
The location is 5mins to pub street so close without the noise.
The staff were not there when arrived and the desk is not always staffed. But once someone finds you they are helpful, albeit not speaking perfect english.
Would recommend this to travellers who wont be using the room more than a place to rest and wash.

Stayed here for 2 nights. I emailed them about complimentary pick-up from airport. But there was no pick-up. Had to call them and request again after arriving at the airport. Waited 45 minutes. When i refused the same tuk-tuk driver for next-day tour (as i have already booked a different tuk-tuk), i had to pay $5 for the pick-up.
The hotel serves halal food which is a plus, and the food was delicious. There was a lot of mosquito at night. A LOT! It was 5 minutes walk to Pub Street which is another plus.
But it was worth the amount i paid for.

Room Tip: avoid no-window room. Its really dark even with the lights on.

We went to Siem Reap by bus from Phnom Penh. I communicated with the manager about my arrival as they provided free Tuk-Tuk pick-up from the bus terminal to the hotel. The hotel attached with the Halal Restaurant, so it was easy to eat. The foods are nice and delicious ad been cooked by Indonesian maid. The Indonesian maid is quiet friendly as she can speak Malay very well (she worked in Malaysia before). The room is clean. One problem the this hotel does not have lift. If you choose to stay in private room, it situated at the most high floor. Its a problem for my parents which is old, and the change to triple room as its more lower. They should put the private at the second floor and the dorm room at the most high floor based on the price. The bathroom is clean. The breakfast is good and very big portion. The location is not really at the center. At night, the street quiet dark and dangerous to walk alone. Its 5-8 minutes to central market (KFC area) and 10-15minutes to the Angkor Night Market or Pub Street. So overall, my parents love to stay here and the said if they will come back, they will stay here again.

Room Tip: dorm at the 2nd floor. triple on the 3rd floor. private ensuite at the 4th floow. no loft

Stayed here with a group of friends for 4 nights - we took 4 rooms in total. We got a complimentary pick up service from the bus station which was really great. Breakfast was really good too and the cook (from Indonesia) cooked whatever we requested. She even woke up way earlier and cooked us breakfast on our check-out day (5 am, mind you) even though we did not request for it. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

however, the water generator did not really work so well for one of the rooms.

I've been traveling for the past 6 months in 6 different countries, staying in many many guesthouses, hotels, and hostels and this was by far the WORST experience I had. We stayed at the Apple Green room which supposedly costs $40/night!!!!! I got it for $20 through agoda but even that was too much for the room/service we got!
- The room was so tiny! There was barely room to crawl into bed!
- There was a constant sewage smell in the bathroom!
- The bed was extremely uncomfortable! They have the cheapest possible sheets which made my boyfriend itch all night!
- The breakfast was the worst we had the entire time traveling. There is no buffet & they don't ask you what you want!! They just serve you whatever they want & however they want it!!
- The room was filled with mosquitoes.
- We stayed there 4 nights (no other hotel available to run to!) and they didn't change the sheets once!
- The house keeping kept moving/reorganizing our stuff! Imagine walking into the room and finding out that your backpack has been opened and they've moved your stuff into random pockets!!!! Even after asking them to not do that, they kept moving our stuff when they cleaned the room!
- The hotel staff was constantly trying to push us to hire their drivers which charged more than the ones you could find on the street. The one time that I hired their driver, they misinformed me about the price! The average day rate for a tuk tuk is $12. Their driver was asking for $25!!!
- I felt like I was a teen again having to answer the non-stop questions about where we are going & what we are doing to every hotel staff we ran into! No! They were not trying to help! They were trying to get us to buy tours/dinners/etc through them which we told them many times we were not interested.
- The only time I asked them to help book a bus out to Phnom Penh, they tried to sell me the most expensive ticket possible ($15). When I asked for the cheaper & more common option ($5) that they had posted on the board, they said "If you don't want the expensive one, you would have to book it yourself!!". When I asked where? Their response was "You would have to find out yourself!" RUDE!

Firstly, we NEVER sell our room for USD40 per night. You have booked through Agoda, where they have their selling strategies which we have no right to explain. To be fair, it is WISER and SMARTER choice to always check our website, www.theexplorershouse.com for the rates. WE ALWAYS SELL OUR ROOM AT REASONABLE RATES AND NEVER AT $40per nite!!
We believe there was miscommunication between the staffs and you. Our rates for tuk tuk drivers are published at our website, and posted on our buletin board for reference. If USD25, I am sure you that must have requested further than usual small tour of Angkor Wat. Yes, the average small round tour Angkor USD12 , but you should expect to pay USD25 if you wish to go to Bantey Srei + Angkor Wat. No tuk tuk driver in the whole Siem Reap province will take you to both places for $12. It is not enough for their gasoline.
About the bus out of Siem Reap, the receptionist could not get the bus ticket at USD5 because it was a holiday Chinese New Year season where all bus companies had increased the ticket prices.
USD5 is off season price, and it is connecting bus(lots of stops before you reach your destination). You did not get that price because you came during holidays peak season.
However,on behalf of all housekeeping, we would like apologize that the cleaner moved your belongings unexpectedly. We have seriously look into the matters arised to ensure such things wont happen again in the future.
